Why not take 20 over to 5 and avoid all that traffic in the Bay Area?

If you like bay area traffic its ok. I would try to get to I 5 before the bay.
I used to comute thru the traffic and hated it.

40 miles shorter than 20 to 5 going down 101 to 580.
20 to 5 is rural and a nice country drive, till you hit Sacramento.
Country vs. skirting the city. I live right at 101/37, I am very used to the traffic.
Commute Sonoma/Marin is 6-9 roughly.
Outgoing in the East bay is 3-7, avoid those times and it is fine.

There is a 9000 lb vehicle limit on 580 through east Oakland.
See this link: http://www.dot.ca.gov/hq/traffops/trucks/routes/restrict-hist-580.htm
The truck route is: down 880 then east on 238 until 580.

Sacramento is a piece of cake compared to going through the belly of the beast (Bay Area). Would definately go hwy 20 over to I-5.

I Ditto that Ditto! Hwy 20 is a great easy drive with little traffic with which to deal.
I want to leave this earth quietly in my sleep like my grandfather and not like the hysterical, screaming passengers riding in granddad's RV just before the big crash.
