BTW - iPhone has numerous apps for geocaching: everything from beginner to advanced. Some are free Some cost up to $15, depending on what you want. The best ones require a the 3.0+ software upgrade (free via itunes). If you have an iphone, no need to buy a gps until you get out where you lose your signal. A cheap to way to start and decide of you enjoy the sport, though.

Can't believe you're saying "iPhone" and "cheap" in the same post. I think you can buy a handheld GPS for geocaching for $99 or less without any recurring monthly charges or service contracts.

I guess it'd be cheap if you already have an iPhone...but, uh...am I that out of it to believe that less than 1% of all people have one?

I know the Garmin vehicle GPS will work, although they are a bit difficult getting you really close to the cache. I used my Zumo for a while but I would have to walk around more to locate the cache.

Which isnt saying much since the inaccuracies of GPS could be up to 50 ft and people have a tendency to move the caches. This weekend spent 30 minutes looking for a cache at a location obviously destroyed, an old log. Found it 40 ft away placed in the leg of a metal beach sign. Guess they need to change the "old knobby" name!

Found a great cache this weekend. Log book full of peoples pictures and names from all around the world.

While I was parked on the beach to find the cache, a group of people had gathered around my B, admiring it. Turns out several of them were there to not only find the same cache I was looking for but were logging my van - It's a mobile cache.
