Expect construction delays! Road repaving between Redding and Whiskeytown Lake is one I ran into yesterday. Pretty sure ther're others.

I took 299 to the coast on 7/22. Several construction delays, but a nice drive anyway. 53 degrees and light fog here in Brookings at the moment

I thought hwy 21 in Idaho from Stanley to Boise was bad, until I drove 299, if i have a choice again, I will choose another route. Traffic was heavy, slow, except for those who have to pass everything in front of them, personally I did not enjoy the scenery, as you better pay attention to the road. We prefer 2 lanes to the freeways and try to travel them whenever we can, however as you can see one mans easy drive in anothers nightmare. If distance is the issue, I guess 299 is the choice from 101 near Eureka to Redding area anyway. May try 20 next time anyway.
I thought the road down thru Calistoga to I-80 was fine......

Just stay on 299 don't let your Garmin do a shortcut on 3. 3 turns o 36 the worst mountain road in that part of the US, 10% grades for 2 miles and 15mph hairpin turns, not a good thing for anyone anytime.

Hwy 36 should not be an option, RV are not recommended on that road and there are Road signs to that effect. How ever you choose to get to the coast, DO NOT TAKE HWY #^!!!

Enjoy the road what ever rout you take.
