I am looking at a weekend trip to Page, Arizona.
I am concerned about traveling down the grade on Hwy 89 at Bitter Springs. 06 Ram Diesel, 07 Raptor 3712, No Engine Brake.
Is anyone familiar with Hwy 98 from Page down to Tuba City? I know it is appx. 30 miles longer, what is the road like? Grades?
Thanks in advance!

I can only talk about the part from Tuba City as far as the turn off to Alt 89 and that is very easy.
I did ride as a passenger from Page to south rim of Grand Canyon, but for the life of me, I can't really remember how it was. I suspect you'll be ok, it's a good road that is traveled a lot.

No real grades 160 to Tuba either. Ran from Shiprock NM, to Verde Valley AZ that route this past March. No problems.

We drove route 98 from Page to route 160 on our way to Monument Valley a few weeks ago. There were no long steep grades on route 98. Can't advise on 160 to Tuba City.

On our vacation last year, we spent a couple of days at Lee’s Ferry, close to Bitter Springs, on our way to Page. We got caught up in construction on the 89 just past Bitter Springs and at the base of Antelope Pass. We were ascending the pass and were following a pilot vehicle in a whole line of traffic and driving at a very slow speed. The pass seemed fairly steep to us but certainly doable if you keep things under control and use your gearing appropriately. We saw lots of 18 wheelers, school buses, etc. descending the grade so it couldn’t be too unreasonable. When we left Page for Monument Valley we drove the 98 down to the 160. Had absolutely no problem and found the drive very pretty and pleasant. No steep passes or any cause for concern.

The grade is fairly steep, but if you control your speed you'll do fine. Slow down at the start, keep it under control. Makes a lot more sense than driving around the block to Tuba.

No problem. Start at the top at about 40/45 and keep it geared down.
Don't let it run past 50/55 and break it back to 40/45 or less.
