A friend bought one in Colbert and felt he got a good deal. (don't know what that was). But my friend mentioned to the dealer that I had one I had purchased at Funtime. That dealer told him to tell me to bring it to him if I needed any work done, warranty or otherwise.
Seems like your local dealer is just cutting off his nose to spite his face.
He sure is, I tried to work with this guy and just asked for him to run a test find what was wrong and he could order the parts to be instaled at a later time, he would not have to put it on his lot ntil the repair was done, I wanted touse it in the mean time anyway, the answer was no way because I bought it at FunTime. They must be at war with each orther!
I'm just in the middle, and the Mfg needs him to keep selling their product. In this economy contary to GM an Chrysler it does seam to be a good idea to have dealers selling and serviceing their product not cutting back on service.

I'm not a dealer and have no connection to any kind of sales, but if I were a dealer, I'd take care of MY customers before I took care of someone else's. Even if I did take you in for service, and I promised to have you repaired on a certain date, if one of MY customers came in with a problem, you would wait. It would not be my job to take care of the customers of another dealership that (just guessing here) has dedicated his business to selling cheap and not supporting HIS customers with proper service.
That said, if you had just moved in from out of state, I'd take care of you, or if you were passing through, same thing, but if you were in my sales area and did not buy from me, you are at the bottom of my list. My LOYAL customers come first!

We thought about this problem when we were looking at a camper 3 weeks ago. We did talk to our local dealer about the problem and he strove harder to sell us our camper. He got within the fuel price to drive the 300 miles to get the other one so we bought from our local guy. Our dealer did tell us straight up that they usually put customers who bought their RV from another dealer on a lower priority list compared to those who bought from him, but he does still service them. I do think your local guy is going to be crying for work if he keeps his policy like it is. Especially in this downturned economy.

Whats the big deal, it's the dealers choice to refuse to work on your rv. Just as it was your choice not to buy from him. Why the post and debate, it's just a matter of simple choices.

Beaker, not if you are the guy who bought from the local dealer and need a problem fixed on Thursday or Friday so you can take the family out for the weekend; and the dealer says he can't help you cause he "booked" this guy in who bought 500 miles away to save money. I think you would suggest he jump you ahead of that guy, just like Sandy & Shirley siad he would handle it.
As long as the guy who bought out of town knew going in how it would be handled he has no reason to complain!

Forest River clearly notes in their brochures that they prefer you to buy locally. I knew this when I purchased my Cherokee Wolfpack from 500 miles away.

Simple solution. Drive 400 miles to the dealer you bought it from to have them service it. For the money you saved at the inital purchase, some of it might have to be used to service it.

Wow, this really does not make sense at all to me what the attitude of "you did not buy from me" is all about.
I bought my Toyota in Nevada and my Chevy in California and the RV in California, thank goodness the Toyota and Chevy dealers here in Oregon did not refuse to work on our vehicles or put us on the bottom of some list. We even had the Ford dealership do body work on my Toyota and work on our Chevy and we don't own a Ford. We got in the first available appointment no matter where we service our vehicles.
Just because I bought an RV from a dealer and needed work done I would expect to wait my turn for service by making an appointment. I never in my wildest dreams would expect to be put ahead of the line just because someone else got an appointment before me and they bought somewhere else. Good grief people!
Is it the RV customers who have this 'tude or the RV Dealers that created this way of thinking?
