Just a little concerned about dealer ethics. I bought a open range 5er from a dealer down state (FunTime RV) and I asked if the warranty work would be a problem getting done at my local dealer, no problem was the reply.
I went to Funtime RV to buy my 5er because they were about 9 grand cheaper than my local dealer, (who advertises he will beat any price anywhere) I called from an Oklahoma dealer to see if he would match the price and he went over by $500 and that was the best he could possibility do. I gave him a chance to live up to his word and he would not. But I decided it would be worth it to give the little extra and I almost was ready to do a deal. By chance, and before making any deal I went to the Internet and found FunTime RV.
Well let me tell you it has been a problem!! The factory told me to contact my local dealer, so I did. Their answer was NO!! We did not sell it to you we will not work on it, besides we are over booked in the shop.
It turns out that my local dealer is at odds with my selling dealer because of his pricing.
So I called the manufacture back and told my story to them and their reply was "I cannot believe that they said that too you" They checked with the local dealer (Jack Sizemore) and after a conference call with the 2 owners I was left in the wind. To be some what fair the manufacture told me I could take my 5er to who I wanted to repair it and it would be ok just have them call first.
It turns out that Sizemore had a state law passed that lets him off the hook by letting the purchaser go where they want to get warranty work. This what the manufacturer told me and gives anyone in the state the choice where they can get work done, after all each part on the RV has it's own warranty and manufacturer.
RVing is an adventure isn’t it?

Yeah, I really don't understand that mentality in the RV dealer industry. We have bought automobiles from dealers in different states and had them serviced all over the U.S. from dealers who we did not buy the car from and they have never said "you did not buy that car from us...we are not doing work on it". What is up with this B.S.??
RV dealership like that just lost the opportunity for a sale when time comes to buy a new RV. As far as being overbooked on repair service, I thought it was first come first serve...make an appointment no matter where you bought from???
Take it in for repairs of your choice, independent shop, have the shop get the approval before doing any warranty work.

You should be happy you didn't buy from him if this is the way he treats people.

Let the business keep slowing down and he will sing a different song. Kind of stupid in this economy to turn down any potential income. I could see him putting his customers ahead, but to turn down work is stupid.

OH I do not mention that neither dealer did any thing IllLegal, just ethics in question. I am still happy that I saved the 9 grand and I am pointing anyone to FunTime for a better deal.

"To be somewhat fair the manufacturer told me I could take my 5er to who I wanted to repair it and it would be OK to just have them call first."
IMO - looks "Golden"! . . .What more could you ask for?
Why? -
NOT uncommon for dealers to handle their customers first or give priority.
Lots of big dealers can be backlogged for everyone.
IMO - I would prefer the option the mfg gave you over *ANY* (either) dealer!
BTW - I'll buy from the best deal every time. Don't know the (your) distance involved, but I went from CA to MT - and would do it again.

I would write a nice letter to the local dealer explaining how you WON'T be bringing your rig in for future repairs, you WON'T be purchasing from him in the future and you WILL be telling EVERYONE to go to the "other" dealer.
Now it looks like you'll be driving down to the other dealer but if they treat you like gold....you got nothing but GREAT things to say about them. Good Luck!

I am happy I did not buy form him. I told my DW that we need to take the 400mi trip just to get out of town, if that is what had to happen. After all we started RVing for the adventure.
