Then I fail to see your problem. The local dealer made a DECISION not to work on yours. His DW may be happy with his decision also. Looks like ya all should be happy.

Even if I did take you in for service, and I promised to have you repaired on a certain date, if one of MY customers came in with a problem, you would wait.
That's WORSE than the other dealer!
Beaker, not if you are the guy who bought from the local dealer and need a problem fixed on Thursday or Friday so you can take the family out for the weekend; and the dealer says he can't help you cause he "booked" this guy in who bought 500 miles away to save money. I think you would suggest he jump you ahead of that guy, just like Sandy & Shirley siad he would handle it.
As long as the guy who bought out of town knew going in how it would be handled he has no reason to complain!
The key word you missed was PROMISED by a certain date.
You want to deal with someone who can't keep their word, go ahead.
I will pay twice as much somewhere than to deal with that type of person.
The guy buying out of town knew he would be at the end of the line, not lied to.
I don't know why peoople defend "things" that they wouldn't want happen to them. Excuse me, yes I do. It didn't happend to them.
But when it does, well that's a different story.

A dealer doing warranty work and a dealer doing customer pay work is different. I'll bet if you were paying and it was not warranty work he would work on it. Surely you didn't believe another dealer telling you that your local dealer would greet you with open arms for your warranty work. You should have found out before you bought there. Like someone else said, "you made your choice and so did your local dealer." CHOICES. I bought some where else and I go back to where I bought it for warranty work. I don't get a lot of warranty work done unless I need it.

I too purchased from Funtime RV (Southeast of Dallas) and got a grear deal on my 5er. I spoke to my local dealer in houston and specifically asked about service. they told me that they would perform the service but if i did not buy from them, my repairs would not be a priority and would always go behind customers who purchased from that dealer. Fortunately I have PPL here in houston that does not descriminate.
Funtime IS the best place in TX to buy an RV, i was completely overwhelmed at how I was treated and the price was unreal.

I've been around this circle twice now.
I bought our first RV out of state 5 years ago and had no issue getting a local dealer to do the warranty work. We had one dealer use the "I will refuse you" tactic on use during the pre-sales when he would not match the out of state dealer price... but in the end another dealer did our warranty work no questions asked.
For our second RV I tried to buy "local" from a dealer 100 miles away. We could not get a deal done so I went out of state again. Now that I've got a few warranty items to fix the local guy 100 miles away no longer carries the manufacturer (and he was not very honest so I wouldn't even ask him for help). The closest dealer to my house is 10 miles away - he carries the manufacturer but not the line of RV I have... SO I could not have bought from him anyway. He told me "I only do warranty work for my customers"... which was a surprise to the manufacturer who had sent me there. The second "local" dealer is 90 miles away - they ALSO carry the manufacturer but not my model line. And they took me. I got a little lecture about buying out of state to save money and was given an appointment a month out. My rig is there now and I'm waiting to hear when they'll finish it.

I always love these threads. IMHO if a dealer has this policy then his organization is a group I wouldn't want to touch my RV!...... "here's your sign"
Its great! It makes the bad ones easy to identify ..... just like they're wearing a sign

You are probably as well off that they didn't work on your rig, I've had them to work on my coach several times, and the work was very poor, had the same things done more than once, like three times. Was billed each and every time, I finally decided that they could not in all honesty do the work that was called for. I evsen wondered if the did anything other than make up a bill. The last time I told them that I'd pay there bill, but that my rig would not be back. It's a little far, but I take it to the City, and have had no problems. My Montana will never see Sizemore's again.

You know it's kind of weird that the Tom Sizemore dealership is so hard nosed about this. At the end of the day, he doesn't pay for the warranty work, the mfg covers it AND parts. In fact, that would mean he is making money and keeping his employees employed.
He is not punishing Funtime because what the heck do they care? So basically he is saying screw you, Jim.
I own two different retail business and some time it's rough watching a customer that I spoke to, quoted a price and only to come back a week later with something that they bought online. I wish they would even ask for a some kind of deal to cover and then I can see what I can do! (so good on you for trying, Jim). The people who do tell me of price differences, I will try to match it to the point where it doesn't make much difference anymore or make it up somewhere else with other products or services.
However, the discussion is centered around what happens when my customer comes in to ask for repairs on gear they bought else where. There is no problems at all! I work on them in the time frame and sequence they are received. This is the time I really believe I need to shine and show these customer why they should have bought from me in the first place and I deserve their money.
Sometimes we screw up bad but I use all of it as a learning experience. I guess that's because I am not the local "king of the hill" and I don't think I want to be. Maybe it's better to always be the number two guy. It keeps me working harder.
Cheers

I'll put my two cents into this discussion. If I were the dealer and I had more than enough maintenance/warranty work, I would do the work for my customers first. When I had free time, I would do work on units that were not purchased from me.
For everyone who disagrees with this opinion, I ask what you would do if it was your business and you had to decide on doing work for your customers or for someone who purchased elsewhere.
I find it hard to believe that you would tell your customer he had to wait because you were doing work for a non-customer.
Seems like a no-brainer to me.
