We are planning on the southern-central coast on our way home from Tahoe in July and since all the sites at every state park are gone,I figgered that we'd do the private bit again. We want to be as close to the ocean as possible and no further north than the Winchester Bay area.
Three that I have seen from RV park reviews are;
1) Port Orford RV park
2) Oceanside RV Park in Gold Beach (have stayed there before)
3) Oceanside RV park in Charlston

We stayed at Winchester Bay RV Resort and Honeybear Campground (8 mi. north of Gold Beach) last August. Would stay at both again.

We stayed at Turtle Rock RV, just south of Gold Beach. You can walk to the beach. It may be a little over advertized,I find most pictures of RV parks tend to glamourize them, but it was clean, staff was great, it was dog friendly , we would return.

If you haven't been on the Mail Boat tour up the Rouge river, we went on Jerry's mailboats. DW loved it and she is not a risk taker, not that it is really risky, but those mail boats turn on a dime and it is exciting.
Have fun, safe travels

We, too, have stayed at Turtle Rock and enjoyed it. While you can walk to the beach--it isn't easy--you have to cross the highway. With our granddaughter we found it easier to drive. But it is a nice park and certainly close to the beach.

Honeybear....9 miles north of Gold Beach as a homecooked restaurant (German food) and entertainment.

Humbug Mountain SP.... 20 miles north of Gold Beach...short walk to beach...sites have hookups.

Another vote for Turtle Rock. The path to the beach actually runs underneath the highway, so it's not dangerous.

All the sites at the state parks along the central and southern Oregon coast cannot be full because some are first-come-first-served and others save a large portion of their park for "walk-ins." These are:

on the Central Coast - Washburne

on the South Coast - Cape Blanco, Humbug Mountain and Loeb

Osprey in Lakeside is not bad. Right on tenmile lake and just south of Reedsport. If you're there for the 4th, big fireworks and party time.
