I've been reading on here about all the evils of the truck being overloaded (weight police), but how many of you actually know or know of someone first hand that had a problem while on the road from being overloaded on a 3/4 or 1 ton truck. what actually happened?

I can't wait to see what replies you get. Like this:
The only time weight was a consideration for me was when the F-250 springs got weak, then I added airbags.

Oh boy here we go...
Are you looking for someone to say that it is OK to tow over-weight?
But, I'll answer seriously. We killed the tranny in our Expy towing close to over-weight but not over..Hot summer towing in the mountains out here in the West.

We had a close friend write in their "Christmas" letter about the experience of frying their F250 tranny and losing braking power on the truck (luckily not the trailer) while towing a 39-foot toyhauler loaded with a heavy mini race car to the tune of 22,000 lbs. It was a very steep highway and he didn't have a tow mode or an exhaust brake.
But frankly, it was just plain stupid on his part and he knew it. He's since gotten rid of that trailer.

"Weight cops", such a term of endearment. Oh wait, I've been accused of being one. I'm a firm believer in "safety first", especially when it comes to my family. Not a whole lot anyone can do about the way someone else tows, whether safe or not. I've learned to not expound upon this subject a "whole lot" anymore due to the fact that those that know they are over their GVWR tend to get a bit upset about it when the topic is brought up. I should know, because "I" was one of those that was towing over GVWR by about 800# and argued until I was blue in the face that it wasn't "that bad" and on top of that, you don't know me or the way I drive, but, I was wrong, and when I understood that, I worked at making my "combo" safer. Just my .02 cents and not worth a whole lot to those that have so much "distain" for the so called weight police. I just have a little more "peace of mind" now about my combo, and, to me, that's worth a lot.

Good one! I have friends that run seriously overloaded and put on some serious miles but no actual problems like the weight cops insist will happen. I know 2 guys with 36+', 3 slide Mobile Suites - one with a 3/4T GMC and the other with a SRW Ford. Another friend FTs with a 36+' Sunnybrook loaded to the gunnels also with a 3/4T Chevy. I'm sorry (not really) but I don't know of any problems to satisfy the weight cops. I really don't condone overloading. Craig

One of my RV buddies had a near miss 2 years ago. He is towing a 5er with a GVWR of 16,200# with a 2500HD diesel and when he took it the scales he near his limit. Any way he lost it coming down a steep grade in Canada. In his words " if there had been any curves between me and the bottom I wouldn't be here to tell the story.

NC Hauler,
I totally amazes me when a person like yourself comes in out of the cold and really starts to understands the difference between a marginal truck and a truck that is well within it's limits. It is like their eyes are finally opened after being blind for all of their life.
