Is this something common to areas where it gets extremely cold? Pardon my ignorance, but I'm curious about this phenomenon.

It is beleived to be caused by the extreme temperature swings from cool to very cold - that we see in the our area. In the late winter or early spring we can have very sunny days that would warm up a trailer 0 deg C while at night it could cool off to -30 deg C.

My trialer is stored uncovered and in direct exposure to sunlight, os I suspect this to be case. It does not seem to be manufacturer dependant. However the manufacturers reposnes seem to bu quite varied. My response from my manufacuture - Forest River was quite arrogant. this of course will have an affect on my next trailer purchase...

I've had the cracked vinyl problem also. I cut out the cracked, floating vinyl, put down a good coat of latex primer on the particle board subfloor and then laid down self-adhesive vinyl tiles that I found for $0.28 each. FYI, the latex primer really helps the tiles' adhesive backing stick.

Add me to the list of cracked floors....This past winter didn't seem that bad, but there was a month there where the temperature had some pretty big swings.

Picked up my new lino yesterday. I was unable to find any glue down cork tiles locally. I went with a fiber floor @ $2.99 sq ft and will have it 100% glued. The floor dealer says they have done several of these with no complaints. Selection was a bit limited as I only wanted a 6' wide 18' long piece.

Should be installed early next week.

Total bill is going to be around $700.

Still $300 cheaper than the RV dealer quoted me.
