WellShooter2 wrote: This is just great !! I just bought a new Keystone 5'er last week. My first 5'er but not my first trailer. Now I read this thread.
On both my first and current FW purchases I somehow found posts about how bad my brand was just after I bought each... On my first there were people with lists of 20 or 30 items and dozens of dealership visits.
Our first RV was actually very good all things considered - yes there were repairs to make and yes it was frustrating. On our second RV we picked it up and camped next to the dealership for a night. They did a few repairs for us the next day before we started back home.
From my experience and what I've read here, an RV delivered and used for the first year with zero trouble is rare (maybe it was common in years past? I don't know I bought my first RV in 2004). I read about a lot of tire issues. Personally I've had several water leaks - most from connections that worked loose and one from a plastic elbow that opened up a pin-hole leak. It seems to go with the territory. However the number of people reporting catastrophic failures is also relatively rare (though not zero).
A slideout gear is kind of in the middle. To me a gear failure is understandable at least - not desirable, but I guess it happens. A slide is not something you can just live without until it gets fixed and with a trip planned I'd be grumbling too.
I guess the good part of these forums is that we can read about what has gone wrong, be able to look for it, and in some cases - early detection helps you get things fixed during a warranty period and perhaps at your convenience and not under a time crunch. You may also be able to catch things before the issues compound.

I understand your frustration. We've had our Sprinter to the dealer twice for a list of small warranty items and a major leak mystery. Headed there today to see if all has been resolved. If I had a major trip planned like you, I'd be a wreck. Despite all of our minor issues, none of our trips have been disrupted. Had that been different, I'm sure I would have a more negative outlook on it. Good luck, hope the kinks work out for you and you can soon enjoy Kitty trouble-free.

It is frustrating and annoying since your major planned out trip with reservation is coming soon. I guess this problem is worst for you because of your trip. I had a front electric jack break on my new trailer on Friday after noon the day before we were leaving for an important trip. Earley saturday morning we had to pull the trailer 120 miles in the opposite direction to our dealer to get it fix, annoying but we did it. I was lucky to have a great Cardinal dealer whom understood our problem and took us in ahead of people whom had appointments. They took a jack from another trailer and put it on ours because we had to go. They orded a new replacement for the trailer that they took the jack from. Your dealer could have done that for you. They may still do that. You have time yet. Talk to them more. Alot of us have been thru this and worst problems. There have been times when I had to wait for 4 to 5 weeks for parts. Your part is one that should not be hard to get if your dealer cares.

I'm with WellShooter2...we just bought a new Keyston 5'er last week too - now I'm real worried. However I guess on the bright side our salesman pays for a weekend of camping near the dealership in case there are any problems.

I guess I don't feel too bad, our new one Durango had some screws loose and the toilet leaked. All fixed to our complete statisfaction. A new toilet was installed and now no leak. I just hope that this continues. Are multiple problems the norm? I could just imagine having problems on the road, such as a slide not retracting, or other major component problems. I'm just glad you discovered them prior to your trip.

Diagnosing the problem, getting a part ordered, shipped and received within 5 business days is in my mind, exceptional service. Some are better off staying in Motel 6's and forgoing the RV lifestyle.

richfaa wrote: Many dealers could do better...If you called keystone Customer service AT 574-534-9430 OR 866-425-4369 During business hours you should have got a real person. We always have. Tell them you have a Cougar and you should be directed to the proper person. We have dealt with them several times with our Montana with no problems.
I agree ,have called the toll free number twice last week on a decal problem,no waiting on the phone, no hassle, no problems talking to the right person, and the problem that I am having has been taken care of. I have read about these complaints about Keystone before, kind of makes me wonder. All I know is I have no complaints about Keystone.

We have no call to question or critize the posters story. The poster has every right to be fustrated. Our experience with Keystone over a 3 years period has been excellent and many other have had a positive experience.. That has nothing to do with the posters experience. We feel 5 days falls within the realm of good service...he does not....so be it.

I'm also sorry for your stress, but I think you are experiencing normal problems. Every new unit I've had took returns for different repairs. I hope that the bad economy and slow up in production will cause a better put together product.
Good luck. I imagine you will be fine
