Yes and no if as you stated you will be paying a monthly rate then you will probably get by OK higher one month and less the next and depending on the season and area you camp.

A lot of campgrounds have season rates but staying just north of the area say north GA or north AL during the winter $400 a month will (should) get you by.

Most State and Federal CG have a 14 day limit and from what I see they about $18 to $25 per day. With the Golden Age pass port discount is 1/2 price at COE and Fed CG's but most State CG do not honor them and some states have their own programs.

Shop around and always try to get a SR discount even if its not offered.

As snowbirds we're currently paying $315 plus electric plus 4!5 for wifi at Camp Verde, AZ. No pool. There is another small park with a pool asking $400. No idea about other area parks. It's higher at Yuma, so friends tell us. I think it'll probably be trial & error for you for awhile since it'll be a completely new lifestyle for you.

I found a year round seasonal (year round) site on the central coast of Calif with an ocean view for $350 per month plus electric. I was on the list for 5 years, but they're out there if you look. Cool part is they will forward my mail for free when out traveling. No frills here, nice and quiet and an ocean view so what the hey.

Consider buying an RV lot in a place you like and wouldn't mind returning to from time to time. Your monthly costs will be anywhere from 85 to 300 dollars depending on how fancy you get but you will stay anchored in the real estate market without having to stay in one place. Make sure it is in a location where rentals are good (you'll need to do your homework on this) and the rent will augment your travels on the road. Don't let anyone tell you that buying a lot will in some way impede your travels. Done properly you'll get a lot of mileage out of owning a lot and have the benefit of having a home base for extended medical treatment etc. Lot prices will be anywhere from 30 to 300 thousand and you will get what you pay for. Full up country club accomodation with every amenity including full free use of all facilities such as golf, tennis, gym, pools spa etc etc etc will cost you anywhere from 75,000 to 300,000 dollars depending on location and view. However, nice lots in nice resorts all over both Canada and US can be had for less with lower maintenance fees. These are not clubs, you are buying real estate with taxes and "condo fees". It's not for everyone but it's what tipped us over the edge for full timing almost 6 years ago. Resales are slow right now so there may be some deals out there. It's real estate so the market floats up and down.

Check our signature block for a link to our travel website. We have pictures of some of our locations up there.

Good luck. Hope you find this useful.

You don't say where or when you want to travel, what amenities you want, etc. We travel mid to north Midwest for 5 - 6 months in summer. Normally stay minimum 2 weeks each location. In Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia, Kentucky, we average $350-$450/mo + electric. These are private cgs away from the major tourist areas and most of these cgs have pools but cable is not that common. We do not use state parks - prefer full hook ups and state parks can be brutal on weekends. When we move further north (IN/OH/MI/IL/WI) our costs are about double to $650 - $800/mo - fewer cg to choose from and are mostly crowded during the summer. Happy traveling.

Since no one touched on it, you say you want cable and wi-fi too. That will be tougher to find a cheap site with that included, or even available. Many CG's offer wi-fi as an extra charge, and most assume you have directv or dish tv. You can get the internet aircard from cell companies for about 60 bucks a month, and directv is now offering 34.95/month for first 12 months, then it jumps to almost 60.00 .

Good luck with your research, but 500.00 probably won't cover all your wants.

If you're worried that $500 isn't enough for "rent", then I question if you have the wherewithall to actually go "fulltiming".

YOU WILL run into mechanical breakdowns out on the road as a FULLTIMER while putting miles on your rig. And, they will be EXPENSIVE and immediately required. Does'nt matter whether new rig or not. If you're gonna sit in a park somewhere for month(s) at a time, then you're living in a mobile home and not fulltiming.

We budget $600 a month. Some months we make it, some we don't. Last year we spent just over $5000 for campgrounds. That included a month of workcamping (so no campground fees) and a couple of months staying with family. Price depends on where you stay and how long you stay. Weekly fees are cheaper than daily and monthly are cheaper than weekly. The time of the year also affects price. If you don't travel a lot you might be able to make it on $500 a month. We found the east coast to be very expensive on campgrounds. We usually stay in private campgrounds (also use PA which doesn't always apply to weekly or monthly fees) as I like full hookups. Can't always rely on campgrounds having cable or wifi. We travel with DirecTv.

For 18 months we averaged just under $20 per night, everything in. We stay at a pretty nice place in the summer, we dry camp some of the time, but not often and we count all costs in that number. In the winter we get monthly rates if we are in the US or weekly rates in Mexico. When we park in a friend's yard and then take them out for supper, the cost of supper goes toward parking costs. Our cost per night is now sitting at $22.35 because we paid the transfer fees on a Thousand Trails membership. Over time that cost should drop again - I think for the way we travel, in the long term, $15 per night overall is probably a realistic target. I've seen a lot lower numbers posted but achieving them would require a substantial change in the way we travel (ie. much more dry camping).
