Sure thing Mona

Take 285 to Jefferson. Hang a left on Tarryall Rd (CR 77)for 8 miles past the ranches and rock formations.

Hang another left at Rock Creek RD ( County Rd 39). The Pike Nat Forest starts in about 2 miles. We we around 3-4 miles in when we found this spot. There were many before and after. The main road is a bit rough at the beginning but good after that. I only traveled the side roads to the point that I knew I wouldn't take our 25ft TT farther, so you should find even more with a pop up.

I don't know the exact miles but it didn't take us 2 hours to get home including the rush hour traffic thru Denver. ( we live near DIA)

I understand that there are boondocking areas around Red Feathers and Lake John ( Walden) that would be closer to Fort Collins.

hope this Helps

Early morning, in middle of alfalfa pivot, adjacent to the corn field we were cutting, northwestern Kansas, eight miles from Nebraska line...we were helping at family farm...DW and I stayed in the fields every night when the rest when home to sleep...absolutely, eerily quiet...and the stars, OMG, the Milky Way was SPECTACULAR!!...

Thanks JinD! I will save these directions for future use.

As for Red Feathers...yeah we have boondocked there many times and have enjoyed it! See our photos below:

Memorial Day 2010, Glendo Reservior

Alas, we learned this past Memorial Day that we can no longer camp here (our favorite place)! They are now making you park where there is a fire ring and state provided picnic table - ONE camper per site. We can no longer circle the wagons with our camping buddies away from others.
They also tried to tell us that we had too many in camp since I drove the SUV pulling our boat. Said that was 2 not 1. But in talking with the Park Police, they said we could keep both vehicles in camp.
This was our favorite lake to spend time fishing and with friends but it is a nightmare now to find a campsite.
Sigh, Okie

Here's one of our favorite boondocking spots - one that we go to every October, for our last camping of the year. We park out in the open so that we can warm up during the day. This area is used as a snowmobile parking lot in the winter and camping spot all other times of the year.

These first three are of the camping spot.

These are of the surrounding area, the river just below where we camped.
