RE: Any good cg's in Wilmington NC?

Wilmington KOA is very nice. City has grew around it so you will hear the sirens go by. Nice young couple now manage the place. They have done somethings to make it more kid friendly - like movie night. It is a very good place for a quick weekend trip. Lots of shopping for the gals, NC Battleship not too far.
If you are coming in by I40 east take the new bypass towards Jacksonville (17 N) and then take the first exit (I think). You can not miss it cause you see Lowe's just off the exit on the right. Campground is a mile or 2 down on the right.

RE: Payload Capacity Increased

I found a way to increase my Tundra's payload from 1,500 pounds to just over 3,000 today. Stopped by the car lot and ran across a 2010 GMC 2500 HD Z71 4x4 package with 20k on it. A couple less ameneties than the Tundra, but a very comfortable truck and a good price.
Now I just need some time off to actually get the trailer out of storage and go camping. No more weight police issues. I had been looking at Fords and Dodges, so this was a happy suprise.
Yep, that was the answer for me as well. Cost me $1900 to make the move and no regrets.

RE: 17 south from Myrtle beach to James Island

It will be a piece of cake, after you go there try the one to the OBX at Manteo.
I have been over that one about 3 years ago.

RE: U-Shaped dinette...a necessity?

As I'm researching all sorts of travel trailers, I'm not finding much that come with a u-shaped or L-shaped dinettes. I've found several KZ's, which look great, but our nearest KZ dealer is 3 hours away. I'd like to find something closer. Nothing used in our vicinity either, after a quick look. Do you all think that a u-shaped would be a better fit for a family of 5, and possible guests as one of our children is getting old enough where a friend may come along. Are they essential for comfort? The husband and I aren't what I would consider "small" and I can't see fitting more than 4 people comfortably in a standard dinette, right? Thoughts?
i prefer (but do not have) the u shapped dinette. If they have a table that folds down or could be removed it wouild be better. Often times models come with u shaped so that it combines the sofa and the table. Some of them are VERY large and same are small.

RE: Electrical Question

It will take a day or 2 to re-charge the battery. I did the same thing.

RE: I 81 - Near Lexington KOA or Jellystone?

The new campground looks much more spacious from the highway. They have cleared a LOT of trees and it is all flat.
What is the name and where is it located? Does it have full hook ups? A website? Thanks

RE: I 81 - Near Lexington KOA or Jellystone?

I have driven thru Douthat and with my rig it looked kinda tight. I am not a very good backer. We stayed at one campground that was shy of Douthat's entrance (might have been Buckhorne) and to be honest it was not very impressive. That was 4 years ago or so through.

I 81 - Near Lexington KOA or Jellystone?

Going in July or August to see some family in Clifton Forge. Lexington is about 30 minutes away. I have been past the KOA and Jellystone and both seem ok. I do not want to pull the camper into Clifton Forge area. Thinking while the wife is visting family I could keep kids busy at campground or Natural Bridge.
Any other campgrounds that are easy in and out with 33ft. TT?

RE: Things to see in Charleston - James Island

Our last trip (and only trip) was back in 2008. We only go when gas is $4/gallon (lol). We stayed at Mt. Pleasant KOA and went to Patriots Point, Hymans & Bubba Gumps. Took the carriage ride. Bubba Gumps is again a must for us. Hymans was ok.

Things to see in Charleston - James Island

We are planning a trip to James Island park June 23-27. What historical type places are located near the campground? How far is places like Patriots Point and Fort Sumter? What else and the best time of day to go? I am assuming the earlier the better. Any other "must sees" in the area? Thanks

RE: Towing With 2012 Tundra

The single number you'll need to keep an eye on is the payload of the truck. with a 7700 lb. trailer your tongue weight can be around 1,150 lb. which would leave you only 350 lb. to account for any other cargo, accessories on the truck (like a tonneau cover or cap) and people (driver, passengers etc). Loaded tongue weights will range between 10% and 15% of the actual weight of the trailer.
Good luck / Skip
X2
I had a 2010 TRD 2wd. Had the same problem. By the time I hooked the camper up (900 lbs tongue weight). It left only 450 lbs for us. Over weight with the bed empty. Found my current 2500 hd gasser at a great price so made the switch. Now I have an extra 1800 lbs or so payload weight to use.
I loved the Tundra other than the payload.

RE: Peeling Graphics - can they be repaired??

FR had problems from their supplier in 2006-7. I had a TT that their extended warranty paid for removal and replacement of all decals. The technican said it was the last time he did that kind of work. Big headache. Cost me ZERO. I had planned to sell that TT and get a different unit so I made sure about 3 months from the warranty expiring to have that job covered.

RE: First tow with Andersen hitch & 9,000+ lbs TT

How much does the Anderson hitch cost compared to the Equalizer hitch? I have the 1,000/10,000 4 point Equalizer now.
Please keep us updated.
