RE: New towing mirrors

I bought the Kool Vue ones for my 2001 a few years back and they have been real good and are almost like the real thing. They can come power, heated etc. depending what options you have. Check online for best pricing as I remember from when I got mine there was quite a bit of difference from one dealer to another.
discountautomirriors.com

RE: Question about towing and Puma/Tundra

How many people will you be carrying? Payload might be the problem. I too had a Tundra and I was at payload when I hooked the camper up and then added all 4 or us plus the 2 dogs. My payload was 1300 lbs. 700lbs tongue wt. and 600 us weight. My tt weight is around 7000lbs full thus 700-750lb tongue weight.
You have the truck and the power but payload will be tricky. That is what I have learned.

RE: New/used Silverado 2500HD 6.0L Gasser

Good luck with the new truck! Is it a crew cab ? You make want to consider the underseat storage box...gives you lots of space to carry extra items on board and out of sight.
Your mileage sounds very good...long term i average around 14.5. 52,000 miles on my truck now, not one problem. Still have original brake pads too which is longest ive ever had a set last.
Crewcab yes. I will check into the storage box. Thanks.

RE: New/used Silverado 2500HD 6.0L Gasser

Thanks for all the help in deciding to make the switch. Now I noticed there is a place for a 2nd battery in the truck. Why would I need a 2nd battery? Do I need to put one in?
Only driven the truck about 125 miles but I am averaging 16.1 mpg. 70/30 road to city driving.
Last, I have ordered some towing mirrors and a bed liner. Is there anything else I shold consider adding?
Thanks again. Once I figure out how to post pictures I will.
Great choice! The GM 6.0 IMHO is one of the best gassers out there right now. Just a good all around motor and TV combo. Congrats.
I am curious, did the truck not come standard with telescoping towing mirrors?
Thanks!
Jerem
No, I ordered them from a company suggested by someone on this forum. I will list the name and website in a few. $258 I think. Free shipping. I just ordered them yesterday.

RE: Crossroads Zinger 25rk w/ Toyota Tundra

Yes, check the payload. I had a 2010 Tundra TRD with the 5.7 and the payload was only 1300lbs. 700-750 was hitch and 575-600lbs were people and dogs. Once I put a few grills, cooler and bikes in the bed I was over in payload. That is the only complaint about the Tundra.
I now have a Chevy 2500hd. 3400lbs of payload.

I have had both. Troubles with both. Only thing is I "think" I know who has laid down in the bed when it is new. Like I said "I think".

RE: Thinking of trading my Tundra for Silverado 2500

Just got back in from checking out the Chevy 2500HD. Sticker on truck was just shy of #3500 payload capacity (#3460 or so). Ride/drive was a little more stiff than the Tundra but not a big difference. Overall the truck was in VERY, VERY GOOD TO EXCELLENT CONDITION.
Ended up dealing for it at a difference of $1960. I worked very had today but I can not complain at all. I plan to go back and pick it up mid-week.
So for the $1960 upgrades include: Payload (main goal), leather seats, heated seats, REAR BACK UP CAMERA, backing sensors, integrated brake controll and more equity. Oh and auto remote start.
What I might have lost - little smoother ride and a little pep in the accleration but really there is not a hugh difference. I took my time and drove in all conditions except towing. Oh and $1960 but hell that is nothing over 5-8 years.
Thanks for all the replies and I really was not going to do anything unless it was a tremendous price deal...which I feel it was.

RE: Thinking of trading my Tundra for Silverado 2500

Just found out it has the 3.73 ratio. Good?
For your needs, the best gearing IMHO. It's what I have, and would not change. I'm pulling about 2000# more than you, plus i pull over passes in the 9000+ ft range.
Gas engine or diseal?

RE: Thinking of trading my Tundra for Silverado 2500

fine in my opinion. have had both over the years.
the 3.73 has been the work horse for years and theres a good reason for that.
also if you have the Z 71 package you get a no slip dif
our 2010 has ride stabilization. one of the features is tied to the brake system on the trailer.
it's supposed to apply trailer brakes if it senses an out of normal driving situation.
the only time i know of mine kicking in, was when i swerved and braked hard to avoid hitting a deer. i was pulling our 25" boat. missed the deer and can't say for sure if the RS helped as it happened so fast.
Yes, it is has the Z71 package.

RE: Thinking of trading my Tundra for Silverado 2500

I don't know much about the 2500HD ride stabilization feature, however it might just be designed to level and dampen the truck under heavier loads. That's what the Suburban's Autoride was designed to do and it worked well. However, as Reno82 wrote, the 2500 will still probably ride much rougher that what you are used to. I know mine does, but you get used to it. Just trying to give you more info. Take care....
Thanks. That is what I want...more info from those who have them.

RE: Thinking of trading my Tundra for Silverado 2500

Ok. You already know this, however the technical/safe answer is that you're most likely over, and the 2500 will alleviate that problem by a huge margin.
If the 2500 has a 6-SPD transmission, you probably won't notice too much difference with 3.73 vs 4.10 for that trailer weight, and the 3.73 will give you slightly better mileage.
Off the record, I towed a 7150lb dry/750lb tongue weight TT with a vehicle with 1400lb payload for several years (2007 6.0L 1/2 ton Suburban LTZ with airbags, 4.10 axle and super duty transmission). It handled the rig very well, actually. Had one less child than you, however hauled a lot gear in the back of the Suburban.
Not meaning to confuse, however trading in a vehicle that you might really like should require some serious thought and consideration of all options.....
Yes, it is a 6 speed. Just like the Tundra.

RE: Thinking of trading my Tundra for Silverado 2500

Would I make the trade? Only if the payload is an issue. The Tundra is a very nice truck if you don't carry much. The 2500HD will be night and day as far as handling the load, at the expense of a much harsher ride unloaded. Mpg will not be much different, probably a little less in the 2500HD around town. I'm more like 14 around town to 15/16 freeway (I drive fast), towing mpg should be the same as the Tundra. I love my 2500HD, but it is a truck, unlike the 1500 or Tundra which ride more like a car unloaded.
You won't need the 4.10 unless you're pulling really heavy, the new 6speed makes up the difference. I have never heard of a 4.10 getting better mpg's anywhere, it will pull stronger because it will rev higher (higher revs = less MPG) I pull 8,000# all over the mountainous west/southwest very comfortably with the 6.0/6speed 3.73
I was thinking since it was the LTZ and had the ride stablization feature it would ride pretty well unloaded. Payload is the only problem I have with the Tundra. Love the truck other than that.
