RE: Replacing the truck due to cell phones

I'm with whoever said have it checked by an independent shop after the work is done. That is a LOT of work done. Glad you're ok. My wife and son were on the receiving end of a VW Jetta doing about 40 as she was stopped to make a left on a main road. Clear, dry conditions about 7:15 am. The other driver never hit the brakes. Drove the '95 A6Q about 30' up the road, thank GOD my wife hadn't turned the wheels or she'd have been shoved into oncoming traffic. Shortened the A6 by about 3 feet, completely obliterating the trunkhttp://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a270/xp8103/101_1563.jpg height=600 width=800. And my son was in his car seat in the passenger side rear seat. Fortunately, the only physical damage were some black eyes and bruises on my wife's face as she bounced off the steering wheel. The A6 did give up it's life protecting its precious cargo - the biggest testament being that the rear passenger door actually opened without being forced.

RE: Tankless HWH retrofit???

It's sounding like maybe a non-starter idea currently (but maybe not in the future.) The issue of minerals in the water (what the anode rode does) doesn't sound like it's been addressed? And the fact that it uses more LP which I guess shouldn't surprise.

Tankless HWH retrofit???

I was just watching a YouTube clip of the new Jayco Skylark tt and they mentioned that the HW is now tankless, a la the home-style units. This makes perfect sense for our applications where space and weight are at a premium. The questions are a) is the TC industry there yet and b) anyone retrofit one into their unit??

RE: folding tonneau covers?

This is my Truxedo Liked the ease of use, installation. With the new rig, I decided I didn't want to go with a cap as I always needed a neighbor to stop by and help me remove it. Lifetime guarantee, removes in seconds. And i think I can leave the rails on and still fit the camper.

RE: Honda 2000 Generator Mounted to Front Hitch

I'm always good for chiming in on these. This was my old setup: http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a270/xp8103/Core%20Banks/P8100110.jpg height=600 width=800 This is on my new rig: http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a270/xp8103/Florida%202011/100_0422.jpg height=600 width=800 The front mount on the 2011 Ram is a custom job as no one makes one for it or at least I couldn't find one after extensive search back in June. http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a270/xp8103/IMG_20110714_204235.jpg height=600 width=800 The folding basket comes from Northern Tool. They don't sell that model anymore. When we bought them, they actually came through with aluminum diamond plate slats. The concern was air flow with it up. So I had a friend weld in some expanded aluminum. Works perfect. This one bolts to the OE grab hook mounts, same bolts.

RE: What's Up With Diesel?

It's not supply. It used to be a speculation and a weak dollar. Now, it's a weak dollar and speculation. Oil is traded in dollars. Print dollars like candy wrappers makes them worth less (worthless) and less and they buy less and less fuel. But expensive gas and oil is the stated goal of the current administration. So are electric cars. Remind me again where that electricity is coming from? Oh right, wind mills and solar panels. Any one of our left coast friends remember the rolling brown outs that Enron laid down on ya'll?? We won't be able to generate power any other way. Remember, it's about oil until it's about the environment, then it's about the environment. That's why my '11 CTD gets 14 mpg instead of 19 or 20 or more.

RE: Who's buying a cover this year?

Would like to see this also. How does it "fit"??

Who's buying a cover this year?

I got three season's out of our last Adco. I didn't use one last year because we camped in December/January in FLA. I'm in the market for a new one and short of paying up my President's club membership, are there other online outlets where one can be purchased relatively inexpensively?

Silver - I've got Mike's Octoberfest in Salem on my calendar. I'm going to give it my best shot.

RE: Onan Vs. Honda

Just taking noise into consideration. If I was just using the gen for AC would the AC be louder than the Onan? You'll likely find the answer is no. The gen itself makes noise but the noise transmitted throughout the rig is also an issue. I find the Honda on the front rack makes noise when under load of A/C, however, the transmission point is only a reese hitch and while it's not perfectly quiet, it is much quieter running the A/C than our onan is. And with the A/c fan blowing without the compressor on, the Honda is at idle and barely audible.

RE: Onan Vs. Honda

Our Lance came without an Onan but prewired. I bought a Camp Power and installed it. In 5 years, it has about 25 hours on it. Not really much use at all. With the front rack and the Honda and an extended run tank, it's only barely less convenient to plug it in and fire it up than the Onan and an order of magnitude quieter. All over again? I would spend the $1200 that the Onan cost on a Yamaha 2400. The only thing my 2000 wont run is the microwave.

RE: Route opinion - OBX to I95 heading south....

thanks for the notes all! And thanks for the head's up Steve. We've been to the OBX many times and spent hours on the Cedar Island ferry. We've always been pretty lucky calling for reservations the morning of departure or the night before but I'll make sure we have made them a few days in advance. Looks like US 70 is the ticket. Thanks for the tip on 101.

Route opinion - OBX to I95 heading south....

Part of our route south will involve a stop in Ocracoke NC. From there I want to get to I95 South as quickly as possible. Considered taking the Swan Quarter ferry and making US274 to I95 but when I pick a southern spot on I95 Google maps routes me on the Cedar Island ferry and then down SR 24 to SR 41 hooking up with I95 over near Lumberton. I have a 1-ton Ram and a truck camper and will likely be hauling a jet ski so maneuvering won't be the issue but once we get rolling off the ferry I want to motivate. Interestingly, when I drag the route further north, GM still puts me on the Cedar Island ferry but instead of SR24 we hit US70 thru Haverlock and New Bern and then over to 95 in Smithfield. Showing about 40 miles further but not appreciably more time. Those numbers are fine if you're in a car but when you're wheeling one of our rigs around, it makes a difference and I was looking for some local input.

RE: Generator Options

I'm going to have to have a custom front receiver made for my new truck. No one offers one for it yet and I can't wait.

RE: Generator Options

Joe & Julie: You mean this: http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a270/xp8103/Core%20Banks/P8100110.jpg EU2000i and a 6 gallon extended run tank on a front receiver and customized aluminum rack from Northern Tool. EU2000 runs the Coleman Polar Cub (7700 - 9x00 btu?? I think mine's an 8300???) 24x7 in eco mode in 100 degree weather at sea level. I would not have a propane gen in another camper. Not with this setup.

RE: 3500 owners

I Frankenstein'd it. I have frame-mounted TorkLifts with the basic spring load kit and HappiJack QwikLoads. The QwikLoads have no spring give in them hence the need for the spring load kit. As for suspension, the easiest "Set it and forget it" solution I think is Timbren's setup. No additional springs or shackles to rust. Absolutely no unloaded ride impact.

RE: Question re Caulk/Sealant

If I'm correct, it's called Buytl tape. RV places have it. It's what I used in fixing my wing this spring.
