RE: RV Park/Campground needed, Southern NH near Troy?

There are two private CG's over in Swanzey, just west of Troy: Swanzey Lake Camping Area and Ashuelot River Campground. I don't know anything about either one. A little Googling and peering down from space via Google Earth might help.

RE: Jackson/Brandon MS looking for a site

Two suggestions for the Jackson/Brandon area - we've stayed at both:
LeFleur's Bluff State Park
Timberlake Campground
Timberlake is not a state park as such; it is operated by the Pearl River Water Supply District.
Click on the above links for pictures and notes on each.
Have a great trip!

RE: Yellowstone in September

We arrived at Yellowstone last September on the 17th. Weather was spectacular for two weeks and no crowds. We stayed at several of the park CG's with no reservations and had no problems getting a site anywhere we went.
Enjoy!

RE: Chief Joseph Park near Harlowton, Montana

Clint,
We stopped there 4 years ago on our way around the country. Nothing fancy, but at the time only $11\, so not a bad deal. Here is a review with notes and pix from our stay there. Maybe you'll get lucky and have a little rodeo action to enjoy - we did not.

RE: central Vermont camping

One of our favorite Vermont parks is the COE's Winhall Brook near Jamaica. According to it's web site, it's closing on Sunday, 7 Oct......rather odd to be closing on the Sunday of the three-day weekend.

RE: Loft Mountain, Shenandoah National Park

It's just a very short walk from sites 11-19 to the rock outcroppings facing westward. Site 14 was always our favorite, but any of those will do. Loft Mt ranks as one of our Top Ten campgrounds.

We stopped at Bandy Creek a year ago and enjoyed it. Nice park with lots of hiking and a swimming pool. A great place if you're into horses. Here is a review of our visit along with some pictures.

We stayed a Bandits Roost a few years ago and really enjoyed it. It all depends on what your kids like to do. For a feel of what the park looks like, here is a review with pictures.

RE: Campgrounds in Nebraska and North Dakota

We went to Yellowstone last fall. There are many small inexpensive city and county parks all through that part of the country. Most are pretty nice and convenient to things in town. You can locate all of them at the URL at the bottom of my signature. Have a great trip.

RE: Biloxi, Ms.

My vote is for Davis Bayou Campground in the Gulf Islands National Seashore over in Ocean Springs. It's not far at all to Biloxi. Water and electric hookups, showers and dump station. Very nice spot.

RE: Any other annual camping passes like New Mexico State Parks?

A number of states offer annual passes that are available to out-of-staters. NM is the best, of course. Texas has a $70 pass that waives the daily entrance fee, which is pretty hefty. It doesn't take many night for it to pay for itself. Georgia has a Friends of the Parks pass that does the same thing. I'm sure some other states do as well, but those are the ones we've used.
And don't forget the Golden Age Pass (or whatever they call it now) for great savings at federal campgrounds.

RE: Myrtle Beach State Park or Huntington??

We've stayed at both parks and have come to prefer HB. We're usually there in November, when sunlight is welcome. The campground at MB is very wooded and dark; we usually would go park out in the beach parking lot for the day so we could have some sun. At HB, a number of sites are fairly sunny.
Here are reports with pix on our visits to each:
Myrtle Beach SP
Huntington Beach SP

RE: Camping in the USA

We have also done several years of camp hosting and have developed our take on Campground Courtesy. It really is amazing what a few people will do at a campground. Sure makes you wonder how they do things at their home.
Happy Camping!

RE: White Mountains, NH and Freeport,ME

We used to stay at Recompense Shores some years ago, but their prices have gotten too much for our budget. Since we can manage just fine without hookups, we have two options in Freeport:
Winslow Park offers some great waterfront sites, a nice bathhouse - just no hookups.
We often spend a night or two in the LL Bean/City Parking Lot right downtown. Easy walk to Beans and the other stores, as well as eateries for some great lobstah rolls and chowdah!
Have a great trip!

RE: Restringing 4-String Day Night Shade

We have just the one-way (night) type of shade in our rig, but the process for re-stringing is similar. We tackled two of them last year and documented the process on the first one. You can find our pictures and instructions here.
Good luck. The first one took quite a while; the second one was a breeze.

RE: Good stopover in Roanoke, VA area?

I'll second the suggestion of Stony Fork USFS campground. We were just there a couple of nights ago.
Another possibility, if you're just looking for a place to park for the night and can get by without hookups is the Camping World lot right at Exit 146. We were there last night. Although it's free, it ain't cheap - between the CW store and the Gander Mountain store right across from it, we dropped a whole lot more than we would have at the snazziest RV resort!

RE: Tomoka State Park FL

We have visited many FL state parks and for the most part they are great parks. As others have noted Tomoka is very wooded and a bit tight for maneuvering. Our web site has pictorial reviews of all the ones we have visited, including Tomoka. Just use the left menu to select the Campgrounds category and then Florida.

RE: Assistance with personal Google Maps

Thanks, folks, for the replies. Since everyone is responding here, I'll go ahead and explain my problem. For the past year I've been posting the results of my research into public campgrounds on web-based Google Maps: Public Campgrounds.
It has worked well until about a month ago when a glitch appeared. Normally one selects a state from the US map and then clicks on icons on the state maps to open balloons that contain information about each campground icon. Now, however, after clicking on some random number of locations, the balloon feature will fail to display the information. Any further choices after that happens result in the same thing. The only option is to reload the page.
An apparently related problem is found when using the alphabetical list on the left to choose a campground to review. Normally this will take you to the proper point on the point and open the balloon, but once the balloon failure has occurred using the map icons, clicking on a left menu entry will open an empty balloon AND move the point to a location off the coast of Nigeria.
I prepare the KML files for posting to Google Maps using the MapExcelData package, and I've been using the same procedures since starting this a year ago. It has all worked well until recently. It appears to be a glitch on Google's part, but darned if I can figure it out.
The only work-around is for users to download the KML file for a state in which they are interested and open it in Google Earth on their computer. Not the best solution.
So that's my quandry. If anyone has any suggestions that this not-so-computer literate guy can follow, I'd be very grateful.
Thanks.

RE: Assistance with personal Google Maps

I've been slogging through the Google Maps site for the past couple of days. I've also posted on their Maps help forum, but no replies as yet.I've also been perusing the web for possibilities.
It's not fun being so stupid about something. This morning I checked to see if there were a "Google Maps for Dummies". There is one for GE; perhaps it covers GM as well.
