RE: Moisture "sweating" in cargo area

Nick is right, I did much the same on our 05 Excell and have never had a problem since. I put 1/8" weatherstripping opposite the original weatherstripping. That made it necessary to adjust the latches a bit by bending the arms.

RE: Holiday Rambler Augusta Sport 210

Since it is classed as a class C you should probably try that forum. The price looks very good.

RE: Maiden Voyage

Generators will quite often backfire if they have not been run for awhile. The fuel in the carburetor has evaporated so it takes a bit of cranking. Usually only backfires once, nothing to be concerned about.

Rob I am glad that someone is looking at it. Since Hit The Road Jack dropped off the thread it has kind of died. Maybe I will start posting to it again.

RE: DOWNSIZING?

After 13 years as full-timers we downsized. We like our PW for all the obvious reasons but do miss some of the amenities of a larger rig.

RE: How annoying is a wet bath?

We refer to our's as the shower of last resort. For 30 years we always used the shower in our RVs, not anymore. We use campground showers if available and wet wipes or a sponge bath if not. Many years ago we had a 20' Lazy Daze class C, it had a very usable shower.

RE: Eastern Sierras from Bay area

Both of them top out at over 8000 ft. It depends a lot on the weather the prior winter and the snow pack. You should be safe in June but there are no guarantees. Call CalTrans and check with them before leaving. 1-800.427.7623 or go on line.

RE: Come Along On Nostalgic Trip

Our first RV was a 63 VW Westphalia van. We took it from California to Florida and back with 2 very young boys to visit grandparents. We were young so it didn't bother us. Few campgrounds and they had few amenities. I wonder now how we did it.

RE: PW STW generator removal

It sounds as though may have a transfer switch problem. Also, what was he load that was applied, if it was the AC that may be the problem. High head pressure can cause the generator to quit from too much of a load. If the generator starts and runs I would look elsewhere.

RE: AAA worth it?

I had AAA in California in the 70s, can not list all the troubles I had with them. Maybe I was just unlucky but I will never go back.

RE: Illegal Parking

For what it is worth, a cheap partial solution to the backing up problem is a plastic bulls-eye. Camping World and RV dealers sell them and they stick to your rear window. They give a very good wide angle view out the rear window. I use mine to tell when I have passed a vehicle, when I can see the front bumper in it I know that I am clear. They help also when backing up in a parking lot. I can use all the help I can get.

I have this vision of you finishing this project and starting another. I have you building a limousine out of old rusty tin cans. Great work.

RE: Saw the new Nissan van today

It has a lot of good points, the big drawback as stated is the short living space. The lack of a van type engine/driver compartment means that about 3 feet of living space is lost. Too bad, it would be nice to have some more competition in the B field.

RE: The 1959 Ford Thames campervan restoration begins.

Ken this is a fascinating thread, you do great work. I would suggest that when you are done you call it "My grandfathers ax". If you are not familiar with the story it goes like this, I have my grandfathers ax, my father replaced the handle and I replaced the head. Looks like your old van will be close to new when you get done.

RE: Post Your 'B' Sightings Here

We saw this RT from Quebec shopping at the WalMart in Orange City FL. #307

This RT was parked in a remote corner of our local YMCA in Deltona FL at 7AM today. I wondered if he spent the night. It is a very quiet spot and has showers available. #308

RE: Old TV is gone

It is much easier to get a standard 120 volt unit and run it off a small inverter. Get a inverter with no fan, the noise can be irritating. Most newer units come with 120 volt TVs.

RE: Tarp cover for winter storage

One caution about covers. If you live in a windy area be sure that the cover is snug all around. A few years back I left a car covered for the summer. On returning I found that the loose places had rubbed through the paint from the action of wind on the fabric. I imagine it would do the same thing to the graphics on a RV.
