RE: Best tow vehicle for 2012

What ia the best tow vehicle, 2012 Model. Everything I have looked at requires multiple alterations for a 10,000 # Blue Ox. I first tried a chevy Cruze but returned it and GM kicked in an Equinox by giving the dealer help. Now I am looking at towing my old 2008 Tahoe 4x4 or a new 2012 Lincoln but do not like the restriction put on the Lincoln and having to make major changes to modify the vehicle. Any thoughts? I have been quoted 30 to 40 hours labor to get either vehicle ready to tow. At $85.00 per hour plus the tow bar, lights, and modifications I am looking at over $2000.00. I had a 2010 GMC Terrain which is identical to the Equinox you mentioned above except for the body and it took 4 hours to install base plate & do all the wiring. Total cost for installation was under $400. Towed it for 7,000 miles with no problem.

I am guessing that "Crazyfoe" is a truck salesman for G.M.!!!

RE: Real World info on a 2005 Monaco Diplomat 36SKT

I think you'll find they made very few of them for a reason. I believe these are prone to porpoising due to weight ditribution. Thoe prices are VERY high for a 2005, although the one you describe may be a reaonable price. You'd be better off with a 40 footer - and you'll barely notice the difference in the size. The wheel base of the 36foot is 216 inches & the wheelbase of the 40 foot is 256 inches. For the ratio to be the same you would need a 264 inch wheelbase on the 40 foot so based on that you would have less porpoising on the 36 foot.

RE: 2008 Neptune Ride

Your Neptune is on the RR4R chasis. I can't imagine any dealer putting the new trailing arms on. The last thing a dealer would do is add another $3,000. to the cost of inventory that has been sitting on his lot for 3 or more years. From 1st hand experience when I used to own an 2008 Cayman,(same coach by Monaco) make sure to get the H.D. trailing arms and spend $2,000. more for the R.E.K. at the same time. Trust me, it will make a HUGE difference in not only ride but also in handling.

RE: F150 or Trailer problem?

There is a fix for your problem. Talk to your Ford dealer. There have been a lot of complaints about this. They replace a clutch pack. Also on a lot of 2010 models they had to replace a lot of shifting solenoids because of hard shifting. When unhooked from your trailer accelerate from a dead stop with wheels turned & you will probably notice some shudder then to.

RE: Ford V6 Ecoboost or V8

The current issue of Truck Trend compares all 4 engines offered in the Ford F150. Check it out. Even the 6.2 V8 couldn't keep up to the Ecoboost and it used a lot less fuel in beating it.

RE: Are you F150 owners happy with your towing?

I tow a 7,200 lb tt with my 2010 F150, 5.4, 4x4, 3.55, super crew, 6.5 ft bed. Biggest complaint I have is I wish I could lock out overdrive. Sure does a lot of shifting when towing. If I don't use cruise It isn't as bad but if I could lock out 6th gear it would work better for my application. Love the 36 gal. tank. Very good factory towing mirrors. Integrated brake controller is absolutely awsome.

RE: Compare Ford ecoboost VS Chevy 5.3 ???

I have 15,000 miles on a 2010 F150 Super Crew 4X4 with 6.6 ft. box with 5.4 & 3.55 rear end. I tried out an identical 2011 Ecoboost last week and what really impressed me was that it doesen't need to shift out of overdrive to climb a hill. My truck is shifting into 5th when it sees a hill coming yet a lone climbing it & I'm talking no weight in the box or tagging along behind!! When I was shopping for my present truck I didn't try out the Chev because I needed the 6.6 ft. box with 4 real doors & G.M. doesen't give you that option. Tried out the Dodge Hemi and it didn't take much of a grade to make it shift out of 5th as well. Can't comment on fuel economy, towing capabilities but do yourself a favour & try out the Ecoboost before you buy. The lugging power is unbeleivable!

RE: How much better is air suspension?

Not all air suspensions are created equal......soooooooooooo, make sure you take it on a long test drive. Some ride similar to a gas leaf spring chasis, and others ride like a nice car. Just because it has air suspension, doesn't equate to a smooth ride. Brian Very true. The Roadmaster RR4R chassis is a prime example.

RE: Overdrive on F-150 Crewcab

On my 2010 Ford F150 I can't lock out overdrive. I have a tow haul mode and my transmission goes from 6th to 3rd if I shift manually.

RE: MPG on a pusher

Often DP's get much better MPG than regular fuel. I've heard many get 12-13mpg. I had a calaculator like that one time!!!

RE: is the fifth wheel to heavy for my 1/2 ton?

If you do decide to pull this unit with your 1/2 ton then you will be going down the road like 90% of Minivan & CUV owners with their families inside & not towing anyhing. Overloatded.

RE: open range

We bought a new Mesa Ridge tt built by Open Range. We had some initial questions that the dealer couldn't answer so we e mailed the company. They never did reply. We have had a leaking slide, leaking window, leaking roof, slide room floor not screwed to the floor, trim falling off & stereo speaker wires not connected. All of these issues have now been repaired by the dealer & myself except a smell from water getting in the underbody that we are trying to eliminate. My concern is their quality control or lack of it. When you have an angle iron with a place for 20 screws top & bottom to connect the floor to the wall on the main slide and there was only 4 screws used and they let go with a bang, you have a problem. So I'm not sure if Open Range is any better than any other manufacturer.

RE: outrageous fuel price

Talked to a couple visiting Canada from Ireland yesterday. They pay 1.50 Euro per litre which is over $2.00 Canadian. They also pay a road tax when they renew their vehicle license every year. He drives a V.W. Jetta and pays 1,250 Euro per year in road tax. OUCH!!! It doesn't help the feelings or the pocket knowing that it is more expensive elsewhere. It doesn't help my pocket but it does help my feelings.

RE: 2003 Monaco Windsor BPD - 40 foot

puta quart of type a automatic transmission fluid with every 75 gal of fuel this is a secret only known amoung old mech that worked on diesel many years ago .this cleans injectors it runs better good luck .qmedmikeYep, only known to OLD mechs that worked on mechanical fueled diesels. Try that today with your electronic fueled diesel and you will be buying several new, very expensive parts very quickly. Call Cummins and ask them if they recommend the use of Type A ATF as an injector cleaner or if they will honor their warranty if the ATF causes a pump or injector failure. This practice went out with the dinosaurs. This is still a common practice in our neck of the woods. Both Cummins & Cat shops use auto trans. fluid as an injector cleaner. When they changed my filters last year on my 2007 ISB they filled one of the filters with straight a.t.f..

RE: What should I get as my next vehicle?

1/2 ton truck to similar 3/4 ton diesel truck you are looking at about $15,000. more money. Only you can decide if it is worth it. Just don't trade till you move to Alberta. No sales tax here.

RE: Champion 2000W generator vs. Honda (noise)

I purchased a Champion 2000 from Costco 2 months ago. Weighs 48 lbs & rated at 53 decibels. So far very happy with it. Sure a lot cheaper than a name brand like Honda or Yamaha.
