RE: financing

Home equity loan if you can, at least you can write off the interest at the end of the year.
You can write off the interest on an RV without it being a home equity loan. Any vehicle that has kitchen and bathroom facilities qualifies as a second home and the interest is deductible. Boats, travel trailers, and motor homes all qualify if they have the kitchen and bathroom requirements.

RE: Jacks..up or down??

Hello all...just put my 08 Adventurer into inside storage for a few months...should the jacks be used to take some of the load of the tires or doesn't it matter. Thanks in advance for any help.
When we store ours for winter, we put blocks of wood under the jacks. We leave just enough space to put the blocks under the jacks. Then when we deflate the airbags the rig is resting on the upraised jacks and much of the load is taken from the tires and the suspension. This is what we were recommended to do by the folks at Camp Freightliner.

RE: THE GOOD

Yep, Zion, Bryce, Arches, and all the Utah national parks are special. I do have to agree that eliminating the cars from Zion was probably a good idea.

RE: thinking of buying this m/h, any advise//

I'd be interested, but then I can't go into one of those Class A only resorts.
It does look it would be a fun project to get into but just bringing it home would probably get me some new friends named Bubba and Goober!

RE: poorly done ad by Newell

Karl Blade
Newell Coach Corp.
Did I not say "if you said the Austrian Alps around Oberndorf - maybe." Now that feels really good!!! I should win some type of prize for coming that close. And just look at the free publicity Newell got out of this thread.
Ahh Pat, you do get around! It was a very astute observation on your part. I guess even us Buffalo area country boys can get out and about once and awhile!

RE: Gps for Class A motorhome

We also use the 465LMT. Good unit, no major issues. With any GPS though, you need to make sure you know where you are supposed to be going to stay on the safe side. I have yet to see any GPS that was infallible.
Many folks like the new Rand McNally RV units. You may want to check their units also.

RE: poorly done ad by Newell

It's funny that you mentioned the ad in that issue because there is one major goof in an article in the magazine. The article on Niagara Falls refers to the Niagara River flowing South from Lake Ontario to Lake Erie. Interesting that the River can jump up over the Falls. For those of you who aren't familiar the Niagara River flows North and drains Lake Erie and the rest of the Great Lakes into Lake Ontario.
As to the Newell, I'd still consider it but I'm about $2 million short of the $1.5 million price tag!

RE: Capitol Reef

Dan, you've got more guts than I do by going over 12 in a motorhome. The one spot where the drops are severe and the road is narrow with no guardrails had me a bit white knuckled in an SUV so I can't imagine doing it in a rig with a toad.
I like your rating system BTW. Even some of the state parks in Utah deserve 5 Hobos. Your rating system reminded me of a restaurant chain in AZ in the late 60's called Hobo Joe's.

RE: How Important Is Long Term Care Insurance

I don't know if it is available in your state, but I believe some states allow a combination of life insurance/long term care insurance. The insurance company is betting that you will not use your long term care insurance because you'll check out before you ever can use the long term care insurance. The combination type of insurance is a hedge on the bet. It's expensive but dropping tens of thousands of dollars for LTC insurance and then dying without ever having spent one dime on a nursing home doesn't sound like a good bet either. Get several quotes and see what' s out there.

We've stayed a number of times at the Lake George RV Park. Great park with tons of amenities. Even an outlet plaza nearby for a diversion.

RE: Montana LLC

Which is a rather long winded way of saying exactly what I have been saying all along:
1. KNOW the laws in the state where you intend to create your LLC (it doesn't HAVE to Be Montana).
2. KNOW the laws in YOUR HOME STATE!
3. COMPLY with the laws in BOTH states!
It just might be that you will never be able to legally take the RV "home"!
If you OBEY the LAWS, there should be no trouble!
That is exactly right. Know the laws of both states and comply with those laws and be able to document your compliance.
Just for clarification, an LLC is different from a corporation from a technical standpoint. Generally an LLC is governed by individual or partnership law. An LLC is not necessarily a business and is used mostly for asset protection.
As for changes in residency, your new voting registration, driver's license, and auto registration generally serve as notice of a new residence. There is a specific IRS form to be filed for changes in address, but hardly anyone ever uses it.

RE: Best NP

I started growing a beard and my wife said I looked like a HOBO ( I am sure she is sorry she said that :). I will now award places to visit a 1 to 5 HOBO's rating.
Arches Rocks - 5 HOBO's
Careful or you'll start a trend and all of us will be awarding "Hobo" awards to the RV parks we camp in. :)
Craig
Guess I am not careful :)
5 HOBO's for Arches and I will rate Capitol Reef NP next week. ;)
Dan, while you are at Capitol Reef make sure you have dinner at Cafe Diablo in Torrey, UT. One of the best restaurants anywhere. It sure was a shock to get gourmet food at what looks like a rather non-descript place in the middle of nowhere, but it is there and well worth the stop.

RE: Montana LLC

Why call Minn. gestapo. It sounds like they are acting on information which they have. As someone said earlier, if there was not a notice that an individual ceased residency in that state and assumed residency in another state, then they are simply doing their job by expecting every residence of their state to pay taxes and registration fees. Also, as stated it is the individuals responsibility to notify the state and to keep good, legal documentation of the action to support the change in residency. While I am sorry that any law abiding citizen has to go through any legal challenges, that is just the way it is.
Remember that one person committing fraud, creates the need for all to provide legal documentation.
OK. I am off my soapbox.
MN is not unique for chasing former residents. NY has done this for years. One of their favorite targets is the person who left the state and later returned to NY. They then chase the individual on the grounds that the person never "intended" to leave NY. Surprisingly they have usually won those cases.
States need money and they will go to some very extreme lengths to get it. We see the notices that our clients get from NYS Taxation and Finance and 90% of those notices are just plain wrong. The state collects millions of dollars that are not owed to them because people are either afraid or unwilling to respond to the notices and they just pay the tax even though it it not owed. My guess is that NY is not alone in this practice.
When you leave your current state of residence you need to dot every i and cross every t because the states will do whatever is necessary to generate money. As stated earlier a Montana LLC can be a great device provided it is used in accordance with the law. Even though you may be in compliance with the law, you still have to prove you were in compliance. Document your compliance with your local laws and you should be fine. Note that the operative word is should.

RE: WHAT TO DO IN NOVA SCOTIA

We were there last summer and I would add the Ovens Campground and Lunenburg to the list above. The Anglican Church in Lunenburg is an incredible site. The trip is just a great fun trip with lots to see and do. We'd go again. I would also add that you might want to stop at Bar Harbor, ME, and check out Acadia National Park.

RE: Sales tax question -

I think you will find that most dealers are very familiar with Montana purchasers due to the fair number of people who use MT LLC's to register their vehicles. If you are a Montana resident with MT drivers licenses there should be no issue. Some states, such as California, have unique sales tax requirements. Most states provide a transport license or you get the plates in MT before you pick up your rig.

RE: Motorhome Accident, I35 in NW Kanas

The article implies that it was a conversion from a Freightliner box van, not a manufactured motor home. It states that it was converted from a box van to living quarters. I'm not sure how you can put 18 people in any rig!
Tragic accident!
