RE: I need advice on Propane Bottles

My 1995 truck camper uses horizontal tanks. These don't have the OPD vales and cannot be retrofitted. A local propane dealer purged and hydrotested them and re dated them. They also affixed a large sticker stating these don't require the OPD valves. The cost of new tanks was too high. My 1995 Weekender also has horizontal tanks. I tried to get one filled a couple months ago in CA and was told they would not because it had to be re-certified. Fair enough. I contacted ProFlame, a MAJOR propane supplier to recertify it. I was told with no uncertainty that not only do you not have to have them retrofitted with the OPD valve (since there ARE none for horizontal tanks) but also that they DO NOT have to be re-certified. I called the place I tried to get it filled at and spoke to the supervisor there to explain what had happened to date and his words were: .... ProFlame is correct. Bring it in. The person you spoke to here probably just looked at the date and didn't realize the difference in regulations.... Oye! Who is right? I can't find anywhere on line where it says horizontal tanks do NOT have to be re-certified. DakDoes it have horizonal "DOT cylinders" or "AMSE tanks". There is a difference and they fall under different regulations. And there is a exemption for some horizonal DOT cylinders concerning the OPD valves - "The new OPD (Overfilling Prevention Device) valves will be required on 4 lb. to 40 lb. propane cylinders from 1 April 2002. However, the currently available new valves are designed only for vertical cylinders and cannot be used with horizontal cylinders. Therefore, horizontal cylinders manufactured prior to 1 October 1998 have been exempted from having OPD valves, provided they are so labeled. (Such cylinders manufactured after 1 October 1998 do already have OPD valves)."

RE: Air Card for Internet Service

Verizon does have daily and monthly plans without contracts. Not cheap. We have the Verizon hotspot Mi-Fi and have used it all over the USA with no problems. If we have a cell signal on our phone we have internet. Verizon no longer has unlimited plans but they do have shared tiered plans. 2GB Monthly Data Allowance is only $30 prepaid. 5GB Monthly Data Allowance is $50 prepaid. and if you want 10GB its $80 prepaid. Your laptop and your usb Novatel U760 Device.

RE: Back Up Monitor up-grade

Think you need to find out what type connections you old cable is and what the connections are on the new monitor. You may have to post pictures here in the hopes that someone can identify them. If you know that info, you should be able to find a adaptor

RE: CoachNet

Coach Net is refunding the amount we had to pay for the tow. They also promised that both the dispatcher and the company they sent would receive "education" and apologized for their error. Glad you listened to us!

RE: Drop hitch max length

Maybe it is the weird angle, but it looks like the motorhome end of the tow bar is lower than the CRV end of the tow bar. Make sure you are using one of the proper drop receivers for towing a car. Roadmaster, Blue Ox, or NightShift Auto.

RE: dinghy towing vehicles

http://www.remcotowing.com/vehicles It will tell you what can be towed four down, on a dolly, or if you need a trailer. It will also tell you if you need a transmission pump to tow it 4 down. My idea is if you need a pump, forget it. Keep it simple. FMCA.com also has a dingy guide on their site.

RE: Low Clearance Routing Help

I watch for the Low Clearance Warning Signs! When I see on, I find a way around it. Has worked since the last time I hit a low bridge way back in 1971.

RE: Gas Wars

Just returned to NYS for the summer. Gas in mid-PA was $3.46. Just before the NYS border, still in PA, it was $3.68. Just over the border it was $3.90. 44 cents/gallon difference in 100 miles. X2 on gas buddy!!Its called NYS fuel tax. I often get my gas when I make a trip south to Pennsylvania. And I make lots of trips to Pa! My doctor is there, my dentist is there, the grocery store is there, and my grandkids are there, etc.

RE: Towing

Just put diodes in the Jeep's tail lights and don't mess with having to attach/detach/string wires everytime you set up . Here's one of many sites that carry kits.Your missing the OP's point. He is looking for some type of portable light because his Jeep lights are being obscured by bike rack and bikes. Lights being obscured will get the attention of a leo and end up with a ticket.

RE: Primary Liability Insurance - Which States Require It?

??? kind of confusing because your state law says: "Kanas Article 1. - GENERAL PROVISIONS: Under Definatins: (w) "Travel trailer" means every vehicle without motive power designed to be towed by a motor vehicle constructed primarily for recreational purposes." But then, Kansas is one of the states that allows riding in the travel trailer, so I would think one would need some type of personal liability insurance to protect the trailer passengers if involved in a accident!

RE: Making a spot free rinse stick

I did a bunch of research on building a water softener and discover that if you want to keep the resin beads inside the assenbly, you might as well buy the real thing, cause it will cost you almost as much to build a proper working one! So I went out and brought the real deal. Got the FlowPur Mark 8000.

RE: Towing

When I had my Swagman bike rack, I mounted stop, turn, tail LED lights to the bike rack. They plugged into the trailer light outlet on the back of the car. That way no body, including a LEO, could say that my rear lights were obscured by anything. It was a light like the following with a rubber gasket around it. http://www.easternmarine.com/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/6/4/6425_st.jpg height=360

RE: Owner's Manual 1994 Safari Sahara

If you can find one, I think you will find it very generic and of not much use. If you do a google search using Safari Sahara owners manual, you will find lots looking for one, but no one offering up one. Suggest you would be father ahead to join up with other Safari owners who would be willing to guide you along. Check out http://www.safari-international.org/links.html. Also the Monaco Discussion area over at http://www.irv2.com/forums/f115/ might be of some help.

RE: tire pressure vs weight

http://toyotires.com/tbr/tire/pattern/m154 go to link and click specificationsNo, you want the "Load and Inflation tables" at http://toyotires.com/tbr/customer-care/application-technical-data then click on Pg 38-39 to download the "Databook_mdtrktires_LoadInflatTables_pg_38_39.pdf" Way I read it,70 would be right for the front and 85 for the rear, but you check it and make sure. My eyes are playing tricks with me right now!

RE: Spraying water in storage compartments

Can I spray water in all the compartments and under carriage, especially behind the sewage hook up? Will I have electrical problems if I do?Why would you want to spray water in your compartments? How is it going to get out? Electrical problems would depend on whether or not the electrical connections are exposed to the water.

RE: over heated & Broke down, update now in Flagstaff

I've been beating myself up over this I think the biggest part of the damage was done Because I forced it to continue on to the next off ramp, instead of immediately pulling over, cooling down and getting the tow while on the side of the road. my own stubbornness did this to meQuit beating yourself up. What you did was a human thing! Something any of us could have done. No sense wasting time listening to the ping pong balls bouncing around inside your head over stuff like this. Time to move on!!

RE: Ready Brute Elite with integrated brake--brake cable

The cable is enclosed in a protected braided wire sleeve and should not be rubbing on anything. What exactly is rubbing and what is it rubbing on? The only place it could be rubbing is where the wire exits the sleeve at. That hooks to the exposed unprotected cable. Is that cable the one that is rubbing on something. Are you talking about the "Stow Strap" (item 13) in the pics on pages 8, 10, and 11 of the installation instructions? If you are having a problem there, I suggest you call them with your problem at (800) 933-3372. The Ready Brake support is excellent and I am sure that they will be more than willing to help you out.

RE: tire pressure vs weight

i had the MH weighed and here are the #s front GAWR is 9350#s actual weight is 6620#s full fuel, water and propane rear GAVR is 15500#s actual weight is 14300#s Your using axle weight, not corner weight, correct? So you front corner actual weight would be 3310 lbs per tire correct? And your rear corner actual weight would be 7,150 lbs per dual, correct. And you noticed that the dual psi is different than the single psi didn't you? I'm thinking your rear psi is quite high, but without seeing a chart, I'm only guessing. Can you provide a link to the tire chart that you are using?

RE: Bugs on plastic bra?

Just got my first slug of love bugs and waited about a week before I could get time to remove them. They seem to have penetrated the surface of the plastic bra and if I use a scrubber it seems to scratch the bra.Their stomachs have some of the nastiest paint and plastic eating acid there is. Never wait to get it off. Do it every night when you stop!
