RE: using overdrive or not

I have 2002 F350 DRW - 7.3L towing ~10k lbs - reasonable flat highway = OD without any problems, when I hit mountains/significant hills = OD off... 140K miles without any problems.

RE: Allure Flooring Install starts

The Allure flooring is floating, but the seams are overlapping self-adhesive glue. The come out of the box ready to stick together... Helpfull hint from online source... Save the paper between each floor tile to use for covering over the glue so you can dry fit the floor for cuts. You can pull these apart once stuck together but it is not easy and could I suppose weaken the glue if you do it too many times. The Final edge at the slide it is just sitting free right this minute. The trailer had to move to NH for the race next weekend. I put the slide-out in very slowly in hopes that there would be no/minimial damage and much to my surprise the floor stayed in place and the slide out did not touch or move it at all. Same on the way out in NH... Trim will go done after we return from the race. Walter

RE: Allure Flooring Install starts

Started the first row right at the door to minimize/eliminate seams at the entry way. Was no problem getting it straight - but when I got over to the kitchen area and needed to move backwards towards the same entry wall it was a bit tricky... Otherwise the key was taking my time, measuring twice and cutting with a SHARP knife. Take your time, ensure the seams are tight together.

RE: Allure Flooring Install starts

Ok got some more work in before the dark and heat took over... Slide out transition area is going to be some work - No rollers on the bottom of the slide - just inverted 45 deg ramp covered by carpet that slides up onto the main living area carpet (now gone)... So I have some carpet transitions that I think with some creative wood work will work once secured tightly. (or the slide comes out and we really work on it... but that is last resort) Door area http://www.swensonhome.net/images/FloorAtDoor2.JPG Door Trim waiting for new screws http://www.swensonhome.net/images/FloorAtDoor.JPG Looking Back - along slide is now ready for trim http://www.swensonhome.net/images/FloorReady.JPG Front Corner near slide http://www.swensonhome.net/images/FloorAtSlide2.JPG Along slide out floor http://www.swensonhome.net/images/FloorAtSlide3.JPG

RE: Allure Flooring Install starts

Yes Quarter rounds will go down for trim after the floor is done. I can see that some of those angles (not 45 deg for sure) will be tricky but my brother is a finish carpenter and may borrow his skills for that final step.

RE: Allure Flooring Install starts

Allure flooring is floating as well. The "glue" is just on some tabs on the edges of each piece that you glue them together as you go. I did find a metal strip that I believe aligns to the slope of the slide area (trailer side) that I am going to try out once I get that far over. The slide currently binds a bit as the existing carpet hangs on something, but due to some rain I was not able to figure it out last night.

RE: Hooking up TT procedure

I would also look at the MFG website. I know for instance that Reese has the details in the install guides like... Reese Hitch Install Instructions And there is no way I could lift my bars without lifting the rear of the truck slightly.. Sure I could get a bigger bar to lift, but the risk of that bar snapping back (I have seen that happen)... I will stick with raising the back up a bit.

RE: Allure Flooring Install starts

One early decision - I have put white bath/tub caulking around the insides of the kitchen cabinet bottom. This will hopefully keep any water leaks from getting under the floor. After carpet was removed leaving just the Lino flooring. Note - No glue on the old lino near the slide. This will be trimed back away from the edge to the glue line. http://www.swensonhome.net/images/Carpet%20Gone.JPG

Allure Flooring Install starts

Ok we decided to pull the old carpet out as it was fading anways. We decided on the Allure Flooring from Home Depot. So here is the plan... Pulled the Main Carpet out. (Leaving the slide carpet for now) Pulled all staples, vacuum and cleaned floor. Started putting new floor down at the doorway. (All full pieces - no seams) Open Issues: Dealing with the transition at the slide out - flush floor slide out. Several ideas online have me thinking. Transition between living area and bathrooms (2) - Different style floor in baths vs living area. First picture - The white paper and tape are protecting the "glue" edge from getting******on it while I walk around and work on this. http://www.swensonhome.net/images/Flooring%20Started.JPG
