A/C and day shades

Two questions
For you do it your selfers I'd like to hear some ideas on how to get a second A/C unit to the top of our camper.
Anybody have any luck cleaning the back side of your day shades. They appear to be made out of paper and ours are very dirty.
Thanks

RE: Apparently 3/4 ton pickups CAN tow anything

Remember what ever the brand they all have the same motor so yes they can tow just as well. Personally I traded my 08 F350 swr for a 08 F450.

RE: 2008 F450 Powerstroke 4x4 dually w/ 4:88 gears

I have one and mine is a two wheel drive. The only time I see numbers over 10 mpg is when I'm running empty. Pulling a 39 foot Designer I average between 8 and 9 driving 65mph. What's interesting is my dealer replaced my DPF because they said the old one was cracked, with the new one I lost 15% on my mpg's instancely and never got it back. Another draw back is the external transmission filter. Like the 4.88 rear Ford only offered this for about 6 months, in the pick up. That filter is $178.00 from Ford and needs to be replaced every 30,000 miles. All my mpg numbers come from the drivers infromation center, which I feel is close.
On the other hand it's the greatest truck I ever owned. I actually traded a new 2008 F 350 srw for a used 2008 F 450 because the 1 ton did not carry the weight of our trailer very well. I got the 450 with 15 thousand miles on it and have had the radiator and the dpf replaced with no other problems and were now at 55,000 miles. Looking at any used Ford get the Oasis report, every dealer should be able to get this for you, it will tell you what has been done to the truck while under warranty. To be honest I would rather have the 4.30 or even a 4.10 rear end.

RE: Buying a 5er 800 miles away. Need some tips.

Don't be embarrassed, your thinking about what we did right down to the mileage. We knew what we wanted, color and options and I think it's very important to actually get into the camper of your dreams. We did with a local dealer that was still a 3 hour drive for us. This camper didn't have everything we wanted but was close and we knew that's the floor plan for us. I saw a dealer in Michigan with our model on ebay and we ended up being the highest bidder but the reserve wasn't met. When I called and asked for it they ended up being over 5 grand less than the dealer in my state but this camper had the wrong color interior. No problem said the salesman, lets order it. The phone call didn't last 5 minutes, our credit card had a 500 dollar hit and then we waited. For us we bought the day after Thanksgiving and took delevery on March 4, this was in 2008. Some of your questions can't be answered until after your order is placed. The down side is if you have problems your service may suffer going to a non selling dealer, we had none. We didn't see our trailer until the day we picked it up and it was as ordered. We have now been on the road for two years and still haven't seen a trailer we like better, although I do have a bigger truck.

RE: When did we get the right to speed?

"The safest speed to travel is the speed of the other traffic" This was according to the Comerical Drivers Handbook in Minnesota when I got my CDL.

RE: Trucks

The new 1 ton SRW trucks will easily handle a 15,000 lb trailer. All three are pretty amazing trucks but the GM lacks allot of details that Ford has included - things like more power adapters, LCD screen, the Ford mirrors are a huge upgrade over GM's, much nicer locking council, 120 volt inverter, 7 wire and 4 wire trailer plug. Heated seat switch for passenger that can be turned on without climbing across the truck. The Ford shows what gear the transmission is in and allows the driver to lock out any number of the top gears. Ford has a bigger back seat with no hump in the middle, the back seat folds forward allowing for a bit of storage behind the seat as well as having the seat lift up to access storage bins underneath. More comfortable seats and if you get the King Ranch the leather is genuine leather as apposed to the pleather of the GM. Ford comes with factory running boards. Personally I wouldn't buy an older Dodge unless you like the idea of your truck feeling like a tractor even though the Cummins is a great engine.

RE: Upgrade wheels from 16 to 17.5

Dicks Auto parts in Goshen Indiana has a great price on wheels. He has the 8x6 1/2 I need for my Jayco.

RE: Slide Carpeting

We had this problem. It was caused by closing the slide and part of the seal along the bottom of our slide ripped off and came in with it, so check your seal. I used a hand stapler to refasten the carpet and it hasn't been a problem. I also replaced the seal.

RE: Help I need Jayco parts in San Diego

If you get one from a Jayco dealer they come two to a bag so I have a spare but I'm in Texas and cost me 30 bucks.

RE: ??? Tire presure and rim rating

FYI the other day I was on line looking for new rims and found a source in Goshen Indiana called Dicks auto parts, or Dicks auto salvage, you'll have to look up the number. I was looking for 8x6 1/2 and he had several to choose from that match what I have now. I'm only guessing he has smaller wheels also.

RE: Dual pane window condensation

Can someone answer this question. Do some campers have dual panes and some thermal pane? Or are they the same thing?

RE: Help does this sound odd

My Ford told me the same thing (trailer disconnected) 20 miles down the road pulling my new Jayco Designer for the first time. The truck happened to be a 2008 and did it until the day I traded it. It's the truck not your trailer.

I'm washing windows today and I was wondering if any of you have ever removed your emergency exit windows for cleaning. I guess I'm also asking if they are eaisly replaced once removed.

RE: Table in new fiver

We did something different after we saw this in a Class A. We removed our table altogether and replaced it with a residental unit. We now have a table that is 36 X 52 inches big and ours happens to be counter high. It's normal position is pushed against he wall with two chairs between the wall and table. When we have more that two folks for dinner or cards we lift the table out into the center of our floor so we can sit around it. A benefit is we are no longer sitting in a slid out (weight). Were full timers and have had no problems while traveling and this table is not bolted down. We have a Jayco Designer RLSA that doesn't have a center island or cabinet sticking out so we have the room. Another benefit is being able to use my lap top and look out the window at the same time, in my case I'm looking at the beach right now.
