RE: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

hola, Mark. Well, I never thought it would happen. My dad turned 50 3 months after I was born and worked hard, yeah at work, but also doing the things he loved. Every day. His grandmother died at 102 after spending the day weeding her garden. My mother's mother was 90. My other grandmother died at 85, but only because a drunk driver ran over her. I come from long-lived, strong, Irish peasant stock that does not wear out in a half century! Well, I wouldn't have... Live a better lifestyle like what... Not eat, not drive, not ride a bike, what? Tell ya, had I known at 30 I was gonna wear out at 51, I'd have done it all over but done it harder! Trish, I gotta agree with you... I would have played a LOT HARDER!! I intend to arrive on flats on all fours, dents and missing pieces, and leaking fluid everywhere, then have my life do the death rattle and have a con rod exit the block, then jump out and yell "WHATTA RIDE!! CAN I GO AGAIN??!!" I'm sorry. I'm too danged fat to sit on a cloud. And twang on a harp? Please... Gimme a Hammond B-3 or a upright bass. And flight capability? ME? I'd be like the "Spruce Goose"! My gramps said there ain't no bathrooms in Heaven, so I ain't intending to go. And for as bad as my joints hurt, and the fact that I'm gonna be cremated, Hell doesn't sound too bad either. But if there ain't no bathrooms, it's a no go too. And I'm from good Irish and Scottish peasant stock, and I have all the good "Appalachian" genetics too. My grandparents were in their late eighties when they died, and Pop had one massive stroke and that stopped him, Mamaw pined away after she lost Pop. My father kicked off when he turned 81. His father died after taking his fourth wife, and five years after my father was born, my father's mother antagonized us until Satan claimed her at 92. I'm a real wimp. Compared to them. But I ain't dead yet. And as long as I'm refrigerated I don't smell too bad lol... Mark

RE: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

Yes !! I am so sick of "can you: refill my coffee, feed the cats (who assumes I can bend down to a food bowl?), check the air in the frt tires, etc" If it falls on the floor, it stays until an offspring picks it up because I can't. Not in a million years did I believe my body would desert me like this. Aches & pains, no big deal, we all get them and get through them. Like Leeann, I want to what I want to do. And the stuff I want to do is stuff that I've always done and needs done. This sorta-life has been going on for a year+ and I'm fed up with it. Uh huh. I NEVER dreamed I'd******out on myself this early. Actually, I had it figured that I would die before thirty from either of the following, or a combination thereof: Angry father of a girl. Angry husband (not mine lol). Massive overdose of something illegal or not. Car, motorcycle or plane wreck. Had I known then what I know now I would have lived a better lifestyle. But I didn't and it's payback time. In spite of all the sheer misery and the simple, smoldering hatred I harbor for not being able to do anymore what I was once formerly able to do, there are good moments in it all when I think of that line from from Bob Seger's "Travelin' Man": "Those are the memories that make me a wealthy soul". That, and the grandkids make is a really cool thing to grow old. I never was a big fan of John Denver, but his song about how: "Some days are diamonds, some days are stone" seems to hold some truth that I didn't believe earlier. Truth of it all is there really are more diamonds than stones, if you take the time to count all the tiny ones... Mashed potatoes can be prepared while seated. And they are a WONDERFUL way to release anger! I can't tell you just how many of my "enemies" have been peeled, boiled and smashed by nothing more than my blazing rage, and a big spud masher! I have been known to CLEAR a kitchen when I get out that long handled tool of destruction I call the POTATONATOR! I'll be back... for more spuds... Markola

Thanks, guys. Broke it 3 ways from Sunday and dislocated it. Surgery's Tuesday, but I've gotta get the swelling down in the meantime. This sucks. Leeann Sorry to hear about this... I've been laid up some myself, but getting better. Had a wicked upper respiratory infection. Glad to hear you're cripping around- just don't get too happy and mess it all up again... Make people wait on you. Enjoy it while you can. your little fat buddy Marky

RE: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

Well, seein' as how everyone is talking about health, I broke my leg at the knee this last March. I've got my RV packed for the winter already, hope you guys have a good winter too! Jer Geez, is anyone around here healthy? Whole? I was feeling pretty sorry for myself (because no one else did) until I read this: http://www.trifive.com/forums/showthread.php?t=60968 How is your knee, Jer? Walking? Canes aren't sexy, House has it wrong. Hello Trish, I wish I felt better than I do. Canes ain't sexy. And House is just plain wrong. About a lot of things. My neuropathy has gotten worse. So for me sometimes walking is a real adventure. But I figure as long as I can keep it up on two legs I will. My biggest concern? I use my feet to play the pedals of a large pipe organ, as well as my old Hammond RT-3. I would bawl like a baby if I couldn't do that anymore. I mean, I worry less about walking- I figure I'd just do a "Lieutenant Dan" and get a new "lower end" and just keep rockin'. Isn't that pathetic? Make sure of one thing. Youth is SQUANDERED on the young. I'm just glad you're still with us. The alternative really sucks. It's OK to feel sorry for oneself on occasion. How many of us ever figured we'd wind up like we are now? Sometimes it's almost laughable, and sometimes it's just so damned lamentable. Your corpulent compatriot... Markie

RE: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

Every other day, I swear I'm going to sell everything and go live in my aunt's cottage in Ireland. Sell the Travco, really? Nah... The cottage in Ireland sounds heavenly. Look here: http://www.maplandia.com/ireland/east/wicklow/greystones/ My mother grew up in Greystones, then in Blacklion, Templecarrig. My aunt & godmother lives in Newtownmountkennedy. Trish, I did look... It is lovely. If I were there, I'd have to visit the shore, and just look out over the water for a long time. I'd purposely walk everywhere as I could, for as long as I could. Everything I could record into my memory, and my camera's memory, would be there forever. Come evening, I'd wander into a pub and turn up more than my share of pints, then return to where ever I was staying, and sleep like I haven't in a long long time. My maternal grandmother's family came from Ireland, County Cork. I was raised by her, and I miss her to this day. If I ever went there, or in Scotland, I would probably never return. Blessings, Mark "whiteknight001"

RE: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

See, I can't balance properly, rt foot refuses to be more than a kickstand. I love shotguns, they are so subtle. Drive home, I kept saying "what if this is IT" to my son. He's optomistic by nature, but also fed up with me being a cripple (so am I), so Dan said if it comes to it, he will finish the Travco himself. Oh, sure, that's right up there with me posting pictures. Well, Trish... Thank God you've got "kickstand" capability. At least, you're vertical. And, you're NOT a cripple. The fat gal with the nice Viking helmet and spear in hand AIN'T SUNG YET. You are still Trish, in every last sense. Maybe a bit wobbly, but you still have your wit, and it's still as sharp as a razor. With my neuropathy like it is, and a bum right knee that will buckle if not "locked up" (WARN 4WD really NEEDS to go into the LOCKING KNEE business!) I wind up sprawling sometimes, in spite of a cane or a walker. But I have diabetes and neuropathy- it doesn't have me. Kinda like the joke about fat vs ugly, and weight can be lost, but ugly has to be surgically fixed so it's worse. Long story short, I ain't done yet. I'll keep going even if I have to get the ol' "lower end" rebuilt, or I get a nice shiny robotic one with a chromed butt. I love shotguns too. Whether tactical or "turkey kicker". My nephew and I got out our rifles the other day, and sighted them all in for Bambi season here. My .50 cal. blackpowder "smokepole" knocked me flat of my butt when I fired it, and me and the nephew laughed past hurting over that! There still is humor in infirmity. When I'm using my walker out in public I've been known to occasionally release an "air biscuit" and blame it on my neuropathy lol... When someone teases me about wearing a dinner napkin like a bib when I'm eating, I apologize and say that since my doc adjusted the doses of my "Parkinsons" medicines, I don't make as big a mess as I used to. The the YF tells on me later- that I don't have Parkinsons, I'm just mentally ill. And my Tourettes still manifests (vocal tics) when I'm behind the wheel!! Whether the vehicle is moving or not. Don't give up, hon. There's still PLENTY of folk to MESS WITH, out there in this big old goofy world, and they're very willing to overlook your madness if you're packing a cane, or up on a power chair lol... now if you were "up on two legs without assistance" you might get arrested, so have some fun, and antagonize. Think about this- when I worked in hospitals I remembered those little old ladies that would come in, have some ghastly major surgery with a BIG incision line. As soon as the anesthesia wore off, they would bravely struggle to get themselves all coiffured up, made up and fixed up, then their ignorant little husbands thought they should be at home, and would get them discharged to home, stitches and all! I repeatedly told them- "Stay in bed, whine a lot and purposely look like hell. You'll never have a better chance at getting everyone fetching and stepping for you." Tomorrow ain't gonna tip her hand and show her cards anytime soon. And nothing is carved in stone until you're six feet under. And you isn't there yet, girlfriend... We want you here too much. So there. If you do post some pics, laugh at 'em too! your little fat buddy, Mark "whiteknight001"

RE: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

Yes, Mark, I'm here. Got a nifty, new Netbook, so my internet presence will grace you again. Or, store it up as penance for things you've done. My back is better, but my right leg & foot are numb. As if they've been asleep for an hour. Leg won't support me, so I'm still going around on my cane. It is very attractive, akin to having a "Victim" tattoo on my forehead. Every other day, I swear I'm going to sell everything and go live in my aunt's cottage in Ireland. Sell the Travco, really? Nah... Trish, I have to borrow an expression from that beloved cartoon character "Bullwinkle the Moose" here because I can't think of anything better than what he'd say: "Goody!!" It's great to read you! Been wondering how you been doing. The cottage in Ireland sounds heavenly. But somehow I can't see "Victim" tattooed on you anywhere... but I could see you wielding a mean "quad" cane lol... So what's the verdict, if the MDs have any yet, on what's going on with your right leg and foot? I can commiserate somewhat, my diabetic neuropathy makes both my feet feel numb. Makes it hard to walk sometimes, and play a left foot bass part on the pedals of my Hammond RT-3... Other than that, I only need a cane sometimes. I always pray for better, for all of us... And since you got a new Netbook, I got me a new Toshiba Satellite laptop with the nice BIG 18.3" screen... sweet... so me gotsa new toy too lol... And I have missed you being here... so even if penance, I am graced by your presence. But that's just me. And I have magnificent taste, don't I? I think so. Uh huh. Yep. Mark "whiteknight001"

Adding the new awning and some graphics plus a homemade loon graphic she looks pretty good for a 1976 rig. Color is International Harvester white from Farm and Home. That loon graphic looks sharp!! Wish you'd get a zoom in on that!! "International Harvester White" never looked so good... kudos!! Mark "whiteknight001"

RE: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k238/lance_ecl/IMG_01142.jpg Originally had a 440 but the owner before last swap in a "built" 318 with headers and dual exhaust. And I can take naps going up the pass. I am thinking of a re-power, possibly a diesel swap. Hey Nerf Welcome to all the Dodge madness! Interesting that you are thinking about a diesel repower. I'd like to see a B-300 "C" class packing a soot roller! A Cummins 4BT would seem to be a bet according to me, but it would depend on how tall it is, in comparison to the V8 already in there. If you get a chance to find this, it's an interesting read. ISBN 0-8019-7012-1. Chilton's Truck and Van Repair Manual 1971-1978, part number 7012. Hardbound and heavy. Pages 810 through 812. Under "Mitsubishi Diesel Engines". It describes a potential diesel engine offering at some time in the 1971-1978 time period the book covers- the Mitsubishi 6DR50A inline six-cylinder, 243 c.i. naturally aspirated (non- turbo) diesel- conservatively rated at 100 bhp/3700 RPM, with a bore x stroke of 3.62 x 3.94, and 20.0:1 compression. Quoting from the Chilton manual, it states: "The Mitsubishi 6DR50A is an inline 6-cylinder, liquid cooled, naturally aspirated, OHV engine. It will be used by Dodge Truck division in most two and four wheel drive model pickup trucks in the 6100-8500 lb GVWR class. The engine is not available in California." Along with a cutaway illustration of the left (injection pump) side view of the engine, a caption appears below: "DIESEL OFFERED- An optional engine for Dodge light duty pickup models- D and W150, and D and W200- will be the six cylinder diesel engine from Mitsubishi Motors Corporation. Production is slated for this fall on Dodge pickups." There has also been a 2.5 liter diesel engine offering in export versions of Dodge/Chrysler/Plymouth minivans, from 1991 on. Backed with either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transaxle. The history is there. Whether a diesel can be fitted into the confines of the engine bay of a B series is debatable. An "M" series class "A" chassis might carry it better. The engine choice may be a Cummins, but then again, it could be accomplished with a smaller Detroit, or possibly an import like the Mitsu or a Nissan. It's worth a try. For sheer parts availability the Cummins 4BT would seem to be a good pick- most fleet delivery vehicles and box vans like bread trucks had them, backed up with automatic transmissions. I know there's at least one TRAVCO running around with a Cummins 6BT onboard... Keep thinking about it, Nerf- it's not entirely out of the realm of reasoning. All my best, Mark "whiteknight001"

RE: How many of us are there? Owners of Dodge based RV's?

Leaks first, nerfherder. Leaks are the first and always fixes on a rig. This is the succinct witty goodness I've missed. It makes me think of the King's reply to the White Rabbit, re: where to begin, and "Begin at the beginning". with apologies to Charles Lutwidge Dodson... The White Rabbit nervously adjusted his spectacles... "Where shall I begin in my efforts to fix my Dodge-based RV, please, Miz Trish? spake he" "Leaks first, Bunnyface. Begin with them, and continue on, throughout the rig until you have repaired the last one, then be militantly vigilant that none may reappear or new ones form!" Still too fat to tap dance...
