RE: why we love Mexico

Sounds wonderful and I've been there, back in the 1950's and the 1970's, but after reading about the 49 bodies they found along the highway north of Monterey with their heads, hands and feet cut off, I don't exactly want to rush down there! And I've been to Monterey before, but it's very desolate driving down there.

RE: Best Pulled Pork or Chicken Recipes

Here's how I made one for my granddaughter's graduation party yesterday. It was a 3.75# pork butt roast, bone-in (more flavor). Sprayed the crockpot with Pam, then put in the roast, cooked on high for an hour, then put a half of sliced onion on top of it and cooked another 8-10 hrs. on low. I seasoned it with fresh ground black pepper and sea salt. Took it out, let it rest 10 minutes on cutting board, then shredded with 2 forks. My daughter-in-law added this meat to hers, then put the barbeque sauce on and heated it in an electric roaster. It really made quite a lot of shredded pork. Didn't hardly shrink at all.

Are they still sending out the magazines every month? We haven't gotten one for a while now.

RE: Best full service ,private, RV park near Jackson,Wyoming

The Star Valley RV Resort has lot that can be rented by their owners very reasonably. But it's about 45 miles south of Jackson. We stayed there last summer for $125/week.

RE: RV Parks near Estes Park

It's Elk Meadows and we've stayed there 3 times, but not since 2007. It's pricey and not that great, but it's location is right. Just about 1/2 mile from RMNP and close to town. It's kind of hilly, dirt pads, stick tights everywhere. The last I checked it was running close to $50/nite. There's really not very many rv parks there. The KOA is next to a horse stable and has very tight turns. You couldn't get in there very easily with a long rv.

RE: How Important Is Long Term Care Insurance

It's cheaper to hire care in the home, if you can find it. And it's a known fact that people do better in their own homes.

RE: tailgater by dish

The Tailgater doesn't require electricity to operate. Just the coax from your Tailgater to your satellite hook-up. We bought one last August right after they came our (ours don't even have the logo on it). We like it just fine. Easy to use, and like the previous poster, we chain it down, so it can't be stolen easily.

RE: buying a fifth wheel should be like buying a car

When we traded our 1994 Snowbird in on a 2005 Cedar Creek, the dealer commented on how good it looked for being 11 yrs. old. Now, our CC is 7 yrs. old and still looks like new. Don't know how easy it will be to sell it in our area (SE Kansas) when we get ready. Nothing sells well around here!

Gauge and Lock problem on 03 Silverado Duramax/diesel

We've had some funky things going on with the door locks on our truck. They'll lock, but won't unlock, sometimes. We've checked the key fob, the relays and the fuses. Also a couple of times, all the gauges on the instrument panel quit working, temporarily. This has happened twice. Any ideas, anyone? The truck is a 2500 HD crew cab.

RE: Satellite equipment

I have Dish. When I had a house they installed the equipment there. I told them I was changing from cable to Dish so I could take it with me in the RV. He gave me a portable Dish and Tripod and showed me how to set it up. The receiver is theirs and I get charged a monthly rental fee. If it fails they replace it. I could buy my own receiver and register it if I wanted and save the rental fee but I chose not to do it this way. The installer said he would have installed it in the RV if I had wanted. It's easy to install and set up. For the first couple of years I would just transfer the receiver from house to RV whenever we took off for a while.
Since when does Dish replace the receivers if they fail for free? We pay $7.00/mo. for a maintenance cost.

RE: Microwave door stuck

My Sharp Convection oven at home started doing that (it was 12 yrs. old), so I bought another one (it was exactly like the old one) and it wouldn't come on at all, wouldn't open without pulling on the door either. So I sent it back and got a second one and it wouldn't cook properly. Finally got the third one and so far, so good. The third time must be the charm!!

RE: Highways Magazine is actually "New and Improved"!

IMHO it's just a catalog for Camping World, with a few pages of readable stuff.

RE: Use of portable satellite dish.

We just sit ours on the ground if it's out in the open, but you have to have a clear view of the sw sky, no trees, rvs, etc. We have the tailgater and it works great.

RE: Would $5 crush a lot of the RV industry?

Ah yes, there are those who say they won't stop traveling, even if gas gets to $10/gal. It will definitely curtail any long trips for us. We'll just stay in our membership campground that's less 200 miles from our home.

RE: Value of a convenient overnight CG

I agree that they should offer some sites for just overnighters at a reduced rate if you're not needing full hookups. Especially, if they're not a destination campground. I'm seeing at a lot of these campgrounds, they have a lot of work campers there, so having reduced rates for just overnighting makes sense. We too have a Passport Americard, but you can't always find a member campground on all your routes.

RE: New DirecTV Prices

We switched from Direct to Dish after having been with Direct for over 10 yrs.
We are getting more for our money and saved $20/mo for the first year. We now have a DVR, which we didn't have before, free HD for life, and an extra receiver. We just bought a tailgater carry out portable antenna last summer, which makes it much easier to tune in the satellite on the road.
