RE: Do I need duels, and do I need engine brake?

The only reason you need dual rear wheels is to haul additional weight over the rear axles and spend more money on tires. SRW will haul the 5er pin weight just fine. Look at the truck specs to compare the axle weight ratings. SRW is just as stable as DRW.

RE: Water Leaking From Here?

Mine started leaking and not knowing any better and listening to personal opinions I thought it was normal. I finally replaced it with a new one and it stopped leaking. They are not supposed to leak with normal pressure, when the valve weakens it will leak and needs to be replaced.

RE: NEED NEW TIRES FOR 5TH WHEEL

So if you have never had any problems with the tires you have and they have lasted that long why get a different brand? Seems like a no brainer to me.

RE: Jacking 5er

I tried to jack under the spring hanger on the U bolt and damaged it. Use the frame like you are supposed to. OK to leave it hitched.

RE: Help --- Looking for a bottle jack

We have two more weeks to get ready for the trip. I kept putting off about buying a bottle jack. Our fiver has Mor/Ryde suspension. I have thought about Trailer aid but I was told it will not help. Our fiver weight 16K. My question is do you think 2 ton bottle jack is okay? Any help would be greatly appreciated it. Thanks again!
2 tons is only 2k,your trailer is 16k, get a 8 or 10k bottle jack.
Dont cut corners and end up with the wheel on top of you.
When you jack the trailer up to get the tire off the ground pay attention to what you are jacking, it may not be the entire trailer weight but it is a lot more weight than just one tire. A two ton bottle jack wont work because it cant handle the weight. Been there, done that.

RE: Should Tire Max Load = Trailer GVWR???

GVWR is just a number. What do the axles actually weight when you are loaded up for a normal outing? That is the number you should actually plan around.
Jim
Why do you think there is a GVWR rating?

Get them balanced, sounds like the sales person is ignorant about tire and wheels.

RE: Biggest New 5er behind my '06 Dodge 2500?

What do the specs on your truck say? If you dont have them, get them from the dealer or the manufacturer and that will tell you how much weight your truck can handle for a TT or a 5er. Dont leave it to guess work.

RE: 5th wheel tires

I think that my Cedar Creek 5th wheel tires (ST type) are on weight limits. The tires are made in China.
During our trips I will check the tire weights using a infrared sensor.
Do you have any idea as to the normal temp of your 5th wheel, or travel trailer? What would be the maximum tire temperature?
Also I will make sure that my tires are at desigh pressures.
thanks ken
"are on weight limits" ??
"I will check the tire weights using a infrared sensor." ???
All tires have heat ratings. If you do not know what the heat rating is for your tires then contact a tire dealer or the manufacturer and ask what the heat rating is and what the max temp is for the tire.

RE: Do I need a bigger Truck

So look at the specs for your truck. If you dont have them then get them from a dealer or the manufacturer. You are legally responsible for having an adequate TV to tow the RV.

RE: 5th Wheel vs. TT

The specs for your truck will tell you how much weight you can tow for a TT and for a 5er, they are different. If you dont have the specs get them from the dealer or manufacturer. Dont listen to opinions about how much weight you can tow, get the facts from the specs. You are legally responsible for having an adequate to tow the weight of the trailer.

RE: NADA Used RV/Boat Values

I wouldn't trust NADA as far as I could throw the book.
Well , what would you trust? A dealers opinion, or maybe the posters on this Forum. PPL get alot of reccomendations, but, lists nothing about the MH sold except the year, size, and model. It turns out, you can trust nobody but yourself. NADA is a guide. Makes no guarantees but at least gives us something to compare.

RE: Lifting Trailer for Tire change or Maintenance

If the manufacture recommends jacking on the frame then that is what you need to do with a bottle jack. I am sure that the manufacturer doesnt recommend jacking on the U bolt plate. If you damage it which you will eventually do like I did and I am sure others have then you will discover the warranty will not cover the damage.
