Need Laptop computer assistance

I have a HP laptop running Vista using Firefox as the browser. Last night I logged off, logged back on this afternoon but walked away while it was booting up, came back in about an hour and it was asking me to log back on again. When I did this time I waited for it to complete all its little things, then clicked on Firefox which should have then asked "Restore previous session" and I'd have my 18-19 minimized programs back up again. But it didn't ask for "Restore" and all my minimized programs are gone and I don't know how or if I can get them back again. Tried "History" but nothing was there either. This happens every once in a while and usually just when I've accumulated a lot of minimized programs, which is just a pain to Google them all again.
Can they be found, and why does it not ask for "Restore"? Has it done something while I was away, logged back off automatically, then when I had to log on the second time everything had been washed away? More frustrating than anything since the minimized programs are just for convenience sake and nothing I can't eventually get to again.

RE: Problem with a Norcold 1200

Having a problem with our Norcold this morning. The 12v transfer button on the left side of the box that runs the door heaters got real hot and has discolored/melted the plastic on the box itself. Has anyone had this problem before and if so, what was the cure?
My 2004 Norcold 1200 started discoloring the plastic about 4-5 years ago and called Norcold. I was still under their 3 year warranty but since I hadn't had it inspected/cleaned by an authorized dealer before the 2 years was up they hardly would do anything about it. Claimed it was in the wiring behind the walls of the fridge which are covered with foam and unreachable so they offered me a reconditioned unit, which a repair shop said was a bad idea. Norcold wouldn't even allow me to pay the difference between the reconditioned one and a brand new one. I had read the spring loaded pins in the door were too small in diameter and didn't make enough contact but not sure of that either.
So I placed electrical tape over the contacts on the side of the fridge and everything has worked fine since. I was told it was all just to eliminate moisture inbetween the two doors, which I never have any problem with.

RE: Bryce, Zion campgrounds

We've stayed at Ruby's Inn at Bryce Canyon, can't remember the one we stayed at Zion. They are too far apart to do day trips from one to the other. Best to visit each one seperately.

RE: What to charge to rent out my fiver for six months

RVs show wear very easily as the best of material is not used while building them. I can't even begin to imagine what that trailer will look after 2 construction workers spend six months using it. Probably will equal close to 8-10 years of normal camping use. After they see what it looks like after that 6 months they may not even be interested in purchasing it.
And if they don't buy it will the monthly rent they pay reimburse you for the lower sales value when you sell it.
Sounds like a family disaster in the making.

RE: Sleep number mattress improvement

mattress with the valley in the center that lets the wife and I keep rolling down hill together and makes it harder to crawl out in the mornings This is a problem? :@
I love rolling down hill a few times a week, I would not change a thing :B
Rolling down the hill isn't so much a problem as trying to get back up the hill. Kind of like when you knell down, it's quite a ways down but a whole lot further back up.
Appreciate all the ideas, now have to decide just what to do.

RE: Dish Tailgater and local channels

That's the number I always call, whether to suspend service for a few months or change service locations. Sometimes it goes smooth and other times the change never gets done or the representative has no idea what I trying to say so I have to call back again.

Sleep number mattress improvement

I've always had trouble with our Sleep Number mattress with the valley in the center that lets the wife and I keep rolling down hill together and makes it harder to crawl out in the mornings. Doesn't seem to matter what the number setting is, 45-75.
I called Sleep Number and they offered to sell me an insert that goes under the center divider, sort of making a "T" out of it for $17. Or they would sell me a set of newer type air bags that zip together supposedly correcting this problem all together for $88. Plus freight I'm sure.
Has anyone tried either of these improvements to their air mattress (ours is about 8 years old now) and if so, did it really improve this problem. The mattresses for the home that I've looked at in stores don't seem to have this center valley problem, but of course they sell for anywhere from $2,100-$3,200 plus delivery and installation.

RE: Service dealer lying to me

The dealer I purchased from was sold about 6 months later and only the automotive department was kept open so I had to find another one for warranty work. The next one flat told me since I hadn't purchased from them they would only do 3 warranty items per visit and I'd be put at the bottom of the appointment list all the time. Took 3 weeks to do 4 1/2 hours labor with only a broken tail light lens to order.
Consequently they have permenantly lost a future customer. I wrote a letter to the store owner and was simply told that's tough since their customers come first. Told them they kind of got the cart before the horse since the store is supposed to lure in the customer with good service, not the other way around.
After that I never leave my coach at a repair shop unless just overnight to finish a job.

RE: Dish Tailgater and local channels

You have to request that change by call the DISH RV division at 888-309-0370.
This number is no longer the RV Division, it is the equipment recovery department.
Dish no longer has a dedicated RV Department. The best number to use is 888-686-2388 if you already have an account. It seems the C/S personnel at this number are a bit better trained than their average C/S person.
Anyone have a good number for Directv for this service? I called their CS number a couple years ago to make a change once, and like was stated, they usually don't know what you're talking about. Took lots of explanation but finally succeeded.

RE: No sink in toilet area?

We specifically look for an RV with the sink outside the commode room so that someone else can be using the sink while someone is in the commode room. It's called multi-tasking. The OP must use that single ply RV toilet paper.
I'm with you Bill. This current MH is the first one we've ever owned that has the sink outside the commode room and we wouldn't have it any other way. I like your "multi-tasking".

RE: Splendide door handle broke off!

Mine hasn't broken off, Yet, but another poster awhile back said it's easy enough to replace and Splendid will ship you one. I ordered one last year just to have on hand when it does break.

RE: Stackable vs combo washers

We have the combo since that's all that was available space wise when we bought our coach new. Stackables would be nice as you could dry one load while washing another but would take up lots more storage space. Combos are nice by taking up only one cabinet space but you can only wash or dry at one time, not both. Combos seem somewhat slow drying but maybe stackable dryers are too, no experience there. Many complain about how long it takes doing laundry with the combo but we've had no problem there as we generally do one load during/after supper each evening.
I know, it's one of those things that only your personal experience can answer you question.

RE: New battery source for HP laptop

Thanks for all the feedback Fellows (or ladies if applicable). I don't mind spending $20-$25 for a new battery in a 5 year old computer that I use mainly for just this purpose (would never have survived my first diesel 7 years ago without this Forum) and some e-mailing, but I'd hate to put $100 in one and have the whole computer go kaput the next day (Murphy again).

RE: New battery source for HP laptop

Checked ebatts.com, battery (4.4 Amp Hrs) was $89.96, extended battery (8.8 amp Hrs) was $116. Looked on eBay and regular battery was $20.79, extended battery was $35.49, and a 3 yr warranty battery was $38.75 with 5.2 Amp Hrs.
Can there actually be that much difference in prices? Are the ones from eBay just as reliable? Has anyone ever ordered a laptop battery from eBay, and if there was any problem was the warranty really any good? Always a little skeptical, if something seems too good it usually is.
Thanks for the help, I don't have much experience ordering on the Internet and even less from eBay.

New battery source for HP laptop

Where is a good place to order a new battery for a HP Pavillion laptop computer that's about 5 years old (or about the same time Vista first came out)? I have no idea what a good price is for one either. We have a local Staples store but I figured that would be a high priced source for the battery.
Mine is down to around 26% available, and sometimes it'll show charging then all a once it's not charging. It used to do this around 60-70% available but lately it won't get above 26%. I left it unplugged during a lightning store recently and the battery ran completely down before I got it plugged back in so don't know if that could cause any problem. I'm assuming the problem is with the battery and not the charging unit in the computer.

RE: LED VS LCD televisions

I read the other day the Samsung advertising department dreamed up the LED marketing concept. LCD is LED the article stated. What you need to watch for is the old style LCD with side lights versus the new style (labeled LED) which has lines of lights solid across the screen with a much better clarity and brightness.
From everything I've been able to read do far, it indicates the LED lights are mounted on the side which can cause lines across the screen under some conditions. All this is Greek to me, and from what I can tell so far from what checking I've done at Wal Mart and Sears it's hard to tell much about the TVs without opening the box and getting to the instructions inside. Asking the clerk certainly does no good.

LED VS LCD televisions

I'm needing a new TV, probably about a 32", and am confused between a LED and a LCD. Reading on the Internet I've found it doesn't make much difference on that size whether it's 1080p or 720p but not sure if it's worth $50-$100 extra to go up to the LED, if one can be found.
Also, been trying to read some reviews to decide which brand has the best performance and repair history but every web site seems to have different comments. Just enough to really be confusing.
Any suggestions on the LED vs the LCD?

RE: Buttermilk Pancakes

Several years ago while at Forest City, Iowa getting our Winnebago worked on at the factory we ate breakfast at the Lodge across the highway from there and the hot cakes they served were out of this world. They were a little darker than hot cakes usually are and had a flavor I've never been able to identify. Asked the waitress what might be different about them and she tried to get it from the chef but he wouldn't tell. Two years late while there we were all excited about getting the hot cakes again but they didn't serve breakfasts anymore, what a let down.
I've tried several different mixes and types of flour at home, tried adding vanilla, almond extract, cinnamin, using apple juice instead of milk or water, tried reading different mixes on the Internet for any ingrediant unusual, and what else but have never been able to even come close to what the Lodge at Forest City had. Finally gave up trying.

RE: Winegard carry-out automatic satellite antenna

I installed a power outlet under the hood.
12 volts can be picked up in many locations. The Carryout doesn't use much power for operation of drive motors.
Unit works good. It does take more than a few seconds to locate satelites.
Until I can get an accessable 12V outlet on the coach I wonder if the Carryout would run down the battery on my toad overnight if plugged into it and the key is left in Acc to keep the cigarette lighter outlet hot? Course leaving the key in the Wrangler overnight my not be the wisest thing to do either. But that way I could locate the Carryout about any place to get out from under the trees. I have plenty of heavy grade TV cable to reach the Carryout.
