RE: What Is The Brightest And Longest LED Rope Light?

I installed part of this strip from Bulb America as an under awning light & cut short pieces of the remaining length to provide interior lighting for my overhead cabinets. The awning strip is bright enough to read by. One advantage of this strip is it can be cut between every 3 LEDs so you can make it any length you want. They have less expensive versions that are not waterproof. Probably similar to the ones Don posted the link to... Some photos of the results are at Additional LED Lighting at the Escape Forum.

RE: Easy way to find TT model you want?

If you are interested in a fiberglass "egg" contact the manufacturer. Most of them keep track of owners that are willing to show their trailer & will give you the phone number of a near by owner. Oops - sorry for duplicating Sunbird's post, but I can add that Escape does the same...

RE: Better construction method??

If you want to see some results of 20+ year old trailers that make use of better construction techniques, and are still in use, check at Fiberglass RV. Bigfoot is still building truck campers with the fiberglass "egg" technique. While the construction technique would work for large trailers (they built 50'+ boats that way) it probably gets too expensive as the size increases...

RE: generator storage while traveling

While two generators make it a bit more difficult, I know of those that find a plastic storage box that the Honda fits in & stores it in the shower while traveling. If she really can't deal with it in the trailer, about your only choice is to add an external storage box, either on the tongue or, if you have (or can add) a rear trailer hitch, add a hitch cargo carrier in back.

RE: 50 amp to two 30 amp adapter & Progresssive Industies EMS

I'm just rambling over the possibilities - You stated that you connected through the EMS to each receptacle individually & it indicated that they were wired correctly. I don't understand why the EMS would show 240V on one leg when they are combined through your adapter unless there is a problem with the adapter. I'd be tempted to carefully check the adapter wiring. If it isn't being caused by the adapter, and your DVM showed each receptacle to be wired correctly, about all that could cause the problem is a phasing problem. The loss of the neutral could cause high voltage on one leg, but would have shown up when you measured the individual receptacles. In a normal service, if each receptacle shows 120V between hot & neutral, it is likely they are wired one of these ways - a. They are on opposite legs and a measurement between the two hots would show 240V. In this case your EMS should think you are connected to a standard 50 amp supply. b. They are on the same leg and a measurement between the two hots would show 0V. In this case your EMS should think you are connected to a 30 amp supply. c. Although unlikely, it is possible that they are on different legs of a 3 phase supply, in which case a measurement between the two hots would show 208V. Not sure what the EMS would thing of that, but probably think you are connected to a 50 amp supply. Those are the only standard results I can think of - There can be all kinds of phasing problems if each receptacle was fed from a different transformer but unless there has been a rewiring of the site that is unlikely. If you find out, please let us know what caused the problem - it is an unusual one.

RE: What is your most memorable/fun RV trip?

A 2011 trip (18,700 miles & 111 days) across the US & Canada. Loved Utah and am going back this year.

While if I had to pick only one state for it's national parks it would be Utah, my favorite park is Glacier.

RE: New TT - question on sewer hoses

Probably depends on the manufacturer/dealer. Mine came with water and sewer hoses (as well as the detachable power cord).

RE: DSLR, Live View and RAW question

I agree with Jackthewonderdog on the use of LiveView. I often use it for landscapes & portrait shooting with my Nikon D700. While not all that useful working handheld, on a tripod it lets you magnify the image to get accurate focus, is a useful tool for composition, and, at least in the case of the D700, lets you project a level over the image to prevent tilted scenery. One point - if you use it in bright daylight a hood to place over your head & camera will help keep the LCD from getting washed out. I don't use live view for most shooting, but if you have the time & the right situation, it can provide an advantage over the viewfinder. As to RAW, I prefer shooting RAW because under difficult lighting it gives you a couple of more stops of dynamic range over a jpg file. You will have to work the image in Photoshop, Lightroom or some other editor to make use of the advantage, however if you want to spend the time it can save what might otherwise be an unusable image.

RE: Help Wirh a Blog

I like Blogger, but I also post to a website at my own domain. There are advantages to both; blogger is easier but creating a website from scratch gives you more flexibility. One blogging site not mentioned that a number of RVers use is My Trip Journal. It provides the ability to create a map of your travels.

RE: Visiting Craters of the Moon NM in August

If you stay at the Craters campground during a dark moon you will witness one of the darkest nights ever and have a spectacular view of the Cosmos. The craters is one of the few places on earth that is not light polluted from the big cities. On your way to Idaho Falls stop at the Experimental Breeder Reactor No. 1 (EBR-I) Atomic Museum, located on U.S. Highway 20/26 between Idaho Falls and Arco. It is worth your time. 2X to both the great dark skies & a visit to the EBR-1. At the EBR-1 you can see a couple of nuclear engines developed for a never built bomber that was going to be capable of flying for weeks... RE: Do you keep a knife sharpener in your RV?

I have both a diamond stone & a small steel. Use the steel each time I use a knife & the stone when they need sharpening. A dull knife is useless, actually, dangerous.

RE: Utah Rt 261 to/from Monument Valley

Since that section of 261 was built to haul uranium in large trucks, the road is wide enough for just about any RV. That said, the last 2 times I've driven it is was very washboarded. I suspect you would spend some time getting your storage cabinets back in order after a trip up or down. That video is what got me to the Moki Dugway the first time! Here is a photo: http://lakeshoreimages.com/images98/ASC_8391.jpg width=640 By the way, a ride out to Muley Point at the top of the Dugway is well worth the trip.

RE: Ipad bluetooth GPS

Just to make it clear - there are two versions of the iPad. The iPad with WiFi & the iPad with WiFi + 4G (3G on the older versions). There is no GPS receiver it the iPad with WiFi. There is a GPS receiver in the iPad with WiFi + 4G. If you want to use a GPS mapping app with the WiFi only models you need to add an external GPS receiver as Fizz did. The 3G or 4G models do not have to be connected to a carrier (you don't even need to sign up for a plan) to work with GPS apps, however as Tom stated, the assisted GPS will lock up faster by using cell towers if you have a contract.

RE: light socket replacement

One note - pay attention to polarity when you replace them. Although incandescent lamps don't care, LEDs do & if you switch to LEDs in the future proper polarity will save you some time. Some manufacturers do not maintain polarity when they built RVs, so don't just follow what was done.

RE: How Many Canadian Manufacturers of TT's

My Escape 17B is made in Clilliwack, BC. They make a couple of different fiberglass "eggs". There are other Canadian manufacturers still in business: The Outback, ProLite, and Bigfoot (Bigfoot is currently building the B-21FB Trailer as well as a couple of different truck camper models).
