Slide Question

My wife and I are working a camp host position until Labor Day. Since we are sitting until Sept should we periodically pull our slides in and then put them back out or just let them stay out until we leave?
Please feel free to offer any advice or comments as we are new to all of this. Thanks.

RE: Full time 5th wheel...extra car?

I think this is another situation that falls under personal preference. As I have read the replies here it seems to be evenly split. We are just entering into the extended travel life style. At first we planned to sell both of our cars and just rely on the Ram 3500 as our only auto. We have now decided not to sell our 08 CRV and keep it to use it as our daily driver. It is paid for. After a year we will decide if we want to keep it or sell it. In general we do not plan to travel more than 250 mi between CGs. I do like having eyes behind me when I have to make lane changes. I don't think we would have purchased a 2nd car though. Good Luck.

Black Tank Flush Ques

I have recently began using my 2011 3425 RT for an extended time while on a workamper assignment until Labor Day. I purchased the unit (used) around last Thanksgiving and didn't have much opportunity to use it until I started this job in Mar. I have have full hook ups at my host site. I noticed that the Black tank monitor indicates 2/3 full even though I have dumped the tank. This indicates to me that the tank needs to be cleaned/flushed, which brings me to my question. Does the 2011 3425Rt have an installed flush system? I noticed that there is a capped extended hose (about 3-6") in the docking station (not labeled) along with the "Gray and Black tank" release handles. Is this hose part of the "tank flush system? If not what action should I take? Any other advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

RE: surge protector

I have just recently started extended RVing. A surge protector was on my must have list. I like the external one because if there is an event I don't want it in my fiver. If you would like to see a list that I had to have check out the blog in my signature and look at the entry " Must Haves".

Hot water heater by-pass valve position

I am preparing to reactivate my water system since it was winterized. I had the unit winterized at Camping World. The tech informed me "to put the 3 valves located near the hot water heater in the opposite position" once i reactivate the water system.I did as instructed. I have the hot and cold valves "in-line' and the hot water tank by-pass valve is perpindicular to the line. I opend the faucets when I connected to CG water supply and have water flow from each. I have not turned on the water heater yet because I wanted to confirm the cut-off valve is in the correct position. I am thinking that I would not have had water flow from the hot water faucet if I did not have the water heater "by-pass valve"in the correct position. I am pretty sure it is in the right position. If someone can confirm this I would appreciate it. Thanks. Jim

RE: NEW 5er : What do we need to ask on our walk through

You are getting some excellent advice here.
My suggestion - Have someone video the walk-thru/PDI if possible. Video last a long time and is worth trillion words! I made that last statement up :W. Good Luck

RE: Hydraulic Pump Warranty Question

YnotTurbo,
I am not sure. They completed a diagnostic and told me it had to be replaced. In fairness they could have given me a more specific cause but I don't recall.

Hydraulic Pump Warranty Question

I recently had a hydaulic pump failure on my 2011 Cardinal and was informed that the pump had to be replaced. I asked if it would be a warranty covered repair. I was told it was out of warranty. The original purchase date was June 2010. I am the second owner so maybe that is why it wasn't covered by Cardinal (Forest River). The good news is that it is covered under my Good Sam extended warranty so I guess I should just not worry about it. I would like to know if anyone else has experienced a similar situation?

RE: Super Slide Problem

You could probably get a mobile tech to look at it. If you have an extended warranty like Good Sam call them and they could get some one out to help you.

CB Radio or Not

Will be "Most Timing" (until house sells or we rent it). I have already got most of the items on my "must haves" list. I don't have a CB radio on the list. Is that an item that would be useful? We do have cell phones. Thanks

RE: Battery s for your fifth wheel?

Not to high jack the OP but... I am new to RVing and have only taken mine out about 4 days in Dec. Should I extend my slides before I connect to shore power? I usually level side to side then unhitch the truck, level front to back then connect to shore power and then extend the slides. Does this sound right? Thanks.
