RE: RV park near New Orleans with shuttle service

We stayed at the KOA westside. Nice park, a little small, but nice folks.
They have a shuttle that drops you off near the St Louis Cathedral, I seem to remember as free, but you want to check.

RE: KOA campsite in Apache Junction, AZ

There are so many other rv parks, why the desire to stay at a KOA? We avoid them like the plague, IMHO
Mainly because we don't "camp" as much as travel. So most of our visits are RON, except for Yosemite and the KOA there is outstanding in all areas. Our experience has been that when we reserve at a KOA, we know what to expect - nice site, nice people, and the amenities we need at roughly the same affordable price.

RE: Apple MacBook Air Uses ?

I do need the Alfa or similar as the signals are very weak and far away. The internal cards never do it.
Yep, been there done that, the trek to the hot spot

RE: Apple MacBook Air Uses ?

HP does require a direct connection unless you have one of the newer printers. The reason it crashed was because it was trying to establish a handshake with the Alfa. However, you do not need it for cg wi-fi. I have and older MacBook and my only problem connecting is on a Tengo system.
Without knowing the exact programs, some software as you describe can be used cross platform; we had a couple at the school.

RE: KOA campsite in Apache Junction, AZ

We stay there when we vist my sister. We have never been charged for our dogs, sewer nor have we found it crowded. It could be during the winter, this is snowbird country; AJ's population almost doubles in the winter. We never had our amps checked either. The owners were very nice and responsive.
The sites are gravel but well kept. Charging for over two is standard KOA policy, but is only $3.

RE: Apple MacBook Air Uses ?

What are the benefits to this over a regular laptop other than weight and quick startup ? My Mac knowledge is limited to using an iPOD.
Its primary advantage is the form factor - light and very portable
At this point it is just a dust collector as everything I try to do on it is either very complicated (for me) or impossible.
What exactly are you trying to do? The basic operations OSX are relatively simple. As on said, you might take some seminars from your local Apple Store or see if you have a local user group. They are usually very helpful
It does not play well on my home network other than internet connection. It will not print to my HP Officejet. My new Alfa AWUS036H has no drivers available for it.
What are you using for your router/hub? HP should work fine; I have an old 5550 that works like a charm . As for your Alfa, from the Alfa website:
"*AWUS036H does not support Mac OS 10.6.7 and later version. "
The current version is 10.7.2 and I have had this problem before; some manufacturers have tepid MAC support. Mine was Lexmark and 10.6
Every program she uses at work requires Windows so they had to put that Parallel program on it and Win7.
What programs specifically? The most used Win programs like Office either have a Mac counterpart or the data can be edited on a Mac program. For example, Pages (word processor for Mac) will export as an Office file. When I was teaching, all my work at school was in Windows, but I could bring it home and edit the files on my Mac. There is even a .docx converter for the Mac

RE: Sequoia RV Ranch

We stayed there last year. We would give mixed reviews leaning towards the negative. The site itself is very pretty and quiet, off the main road. It is close to the Park and Kaweah Lake.
However, if you look at the camp map, you want to try for the lower loop or river sites. The area around the bathhouse is a neighborhood of permanent mobile homes. Also there is no store and you have to go to the office area for wi-fi.
Would we stay there again? Maybe.

RE: Campground Near Yosemite

We stay at the KOA Mariposa on 140. Nice ambience and very nice owners. An excellent dog run and if you want to avoid park traffic, a bus stop for the shuttle into the park.

RE: To update IPhone4 or Not to update Iphone4?

Thanks, sounded like more had problems than didn't. WHY do they do this?
Why don't they test these things BEFORE releasing them?
At my job if I designed something and then had to come out with 8 revisions after the fact to get it to work properly......I would have been out of a job.:R
The main problem was that Apple tried to do too much at once. In order to run IOS5, first you had to bring Lion to 10.7.2, then upgrade ITunes to 10.5 and the apps using the cloud also had to be upgraded.
The end result was server overload with timeouts and corrupted data which no amount of pretesting can predict nor can they test for every configuration. Some vendors are slow in upgrading their products which can lead to compatibility issues.
I use the Mac platform and it might be different on Windows. I downloaded it the first day and have had no problems whatsoever.

RE: To update IPhone4 or Not to update Iphone4?

So far haven't seen any. ICloud is free and the "Find" apps are just the tip of the iceberg. IOS5 & ICloud do away with plugging in your phone to sync, it's done vi wifi. If you have a Mac and it will also push any changes in iWork docs, ICal, Address book, etc to all devices set up in the cloud.
There's a lot more but those are the ones I've been using

RE: iPad 1 and iOS 5.0

I gave up my iphone, but still use my iPad. What does this upgrade have to offer? It's been a while since I plugged it in to iTunes.
Well, if you have a Mac running OS 10.7.2,(Lion) you don't have to plug it in anymore; it syncs via wifi. I think the same holds true on the Windows side, I'm not sure.
Also on the Mac side is the "ICloud" that allows you to push documents and calendars (among other items) to all IOS devices and Lion Macs.
I've had no problems with it except for the overloaded servers to download it.

Back to the subject. The 4S is both CDMA and GSM phone and the one most awaited is it will be on Sprint also now.

RE: IPAD/Tablet/Netbook - long

I want to stay away from doing anything using the cloud as many places that I travel have little or no Internet access. Also, it worries me to see all the changes that companies bring out so I would always have to be learning or upgrading when I would rather be working or enjoying without being forced to upgrade.
There's always 3G if there's no wifi. As for forced upgrade, that doesn't apply to I-devices. I've always had the choice to not upgrade.

RE: IPAD/Tablet/Netbook - long

Keep an eye on the news today. Apple has a news event in which they may release "ICloud", software that automatically syncs what on you IPhone, IPad, etc without any cables. I'm not sure exactly how it works, system requirements, etc. The first 5GB of cloud storage is free and after the cost is very low.
