RE: Hillsboro River State Park

Wow! Things must have changed since the last time we were there in 2009. We never experienced rude rangers, the camp hosts were great, and we loved the park.

RE: Gulf Coast of Everglades National Park

This past January we spent a few days at Midway campground near Everglades City. In Everglades City you can visit the Smallwood Store, go on boat tours in the National Park or outside the park, take an air boat tour, kayak, fish, eat at one of the waterfront restaurants, eat some stone crab claws. You would also be close enough to Shark Valley to ride your bike or take the tram tour.
As others have said it is very remote and very laid back.

RE: Help Wirh a Blog

We use My Trip Journal for journals of our trips. If you want to have a private site for only friends and family you can pay an annual fee and password protect it. What I like about it is being able to create a map of your trip and individual entries for each location.
I also use Blogger for campground reviews. The link is in my signature.
Have a great trip!!!

RE: Tenn, state parks

We have stayed at Old Stone Fort twice in a 35 foot fifth wheel with no problems crossing the bridge or finding a large site. Both times we stayed there the park was almost empty. All sites are first come, first served. As someone else stated it is a wooded, rustic park but there are large sites with water and electric. There are nice walking trails and the museum is very interesting. There were people fishing in the river. We really enjoyed it there and would return.

RE: Ocala Area

All of these are excellent suggestions for the Ocala area. There are two places we like to stay.
Silver River State Park is one of our favorite state parks. Huge sites, walk to the Silver River. You can rent a canoe and paddle to the Silver Springs. Click Silver River Review for our campsite review and photo of campsite.
We just discovered Salt Springs Recreation Area this winter. It is a National Forest campground with full hookups. You can walk or ride your bike to the springs. It's close to Juniper Springs and a short drive to either Ocala or Palatka. Click Salt Springs Review for our campground review and photo.

RE: Kentucky Horse Park and alternatives

I would highly recommend the Kentucky Horse Park. It is a beautiful park, the sites are large, and there are 2 dump stations. Have you considered getting one of the blue tanks to transport grey water to the dump station? When we are in a park with no sewer at the site we conserve water as much as we can and use the blue tank every few days.

RE: West Virgina

Pipestem State Park near Hinton has full hookup sites. The New River National River and historic Greenbier Hotel are both easy day trips. I believe there is white water rafting on the New River.
Click Pipestem State Park Review for a review of the campground and a picture of our site.
Click Pipestem State Park Website for the state park website.

RE: Do you have a favorite National Park

Everglades and Great Smoky Mountains National parks in the east. Rocky Mountain, Yellowstone, Grand Canyon North Rim, and Zion in the west. But really love them all!

RE: Average Campground cost

When we travel our first choice is always a COE or other federal park, then state or county parks. We have found public parks in many states are almost empty during the week. If there is one along your route you are interested in give them a call a day or two ahead of time to see if there is anything available. Sometimes the campgrounds are almost empty and they are glad to have you. Some of our favorite campgrounds were ones we stumbled upon along the way.
We also have KOA, Good Sam, and Passport America discount cards. Last summer we made a 2 month trip and never paid $50 a night. Most of the private campgrounds were in the $30 range, and a couple of PA parks were $16.

RE: Finding a campground along an interstate?

These are all great ideas. Woodall's, Trailer Life, and Passport America all have apps for your smartphone. Another app we use is called Oh Ranger. It shows state, federal and local parks. We also carry the next exit with us to find RV friendly gas stations.

RE: Parking in Savannah GA

Bugs is right. If they allow RV parking at the visitor's center you would want to get off of I-16 and go down MLK Jr Blvd to the center. I wouldn't recommend trying to drive through the downtown area around the squares. Another word of warning - The week of St. Patrick's Day is usually very crowded everywhere in Savannah.

The Savannah Visitor's Center may allow RV parking in their parking lot. I would call first to be sure.

RE: S. Utah NP's and Grand Canyon (North)

We stayed at Kaibab Camper Village outside the national park near the North Rim of the Grand Canyon in July of 2006 with no reservations. We enjoyed the drive into the park each day. We stayed in private parks at Bryce, in Moab, and at Capitol Reef with no reservations. The next year we went to Zion and made reservations months in advance for Memorial Day week at Watchman campground inside the park. It was a good thing we had reservations because the park was full.

RE: General Coffee State Park, Georgia

We stayed there in November, 2009. As others have said it is a short drive to the Walmart in Douglas. There are also other stores and restaurants in Douglas. There are lots of trees in the park. We were not able to get DirecTV satellite in site 37.

Thanks for the replies. Sites 44 and 53 are available for the dates we want. Both are 40 feet long. Think we'll fit?

RE: Recommended Outback Bowl RV Park

Go Dawgs!!
If you want full hookups I would recommend Rally Park in Seffner. You can read our review of it here Rally Park Review
Their website is Rally Park
If you prefer state parks, we love Hillsborough River State Park. Each site has water and electric and there is a dump station as you leave the park. You can read our review here Hillsborough River State Park
You can make reservations for Hillsborough River on Reserve America
PM me if you would like more info on either park.

Ft. Clinch State Park, Florida Site Size

I know I can count on some of you experienced Florida Campers to help me. We're thinking of spending a couple of days at Ft. Clinch State Park this winter. We have a 35 foot fifth wheel and usually try to find sites 45+ feet long. The only sites available for the dates we want are 40 feet long. Is there room to park the truck on a 40 foot site there? Are there overhanging trees that would make it difficult to get to the site?
Thanks for your help!

RE: need help again Nashville, Memphis, N.Orleans

In Nashville, I would recommend Seven Points Corps of Engineers campground. It is actually in Hermitage, TN. It is on J. Percy Priest Lake with lots of trees. Sites are big with water and electric at the site. Click Seven Points COE for our review of the park.
In Memphis, we really enjoyed Tom Sawyer's RV Park in West Memphis, Arkansas. The campground is right on the Mississippi River where you can watch the barges on the river. They even have free laundry! It is located inside the levee and sometimes floods so be sure to check before you go there. Click Tom Sawyer's RV Park for our review of the park.
