RE: Camping VS Hotels

Since your question is only addressing the cost, I'll not go out on a tangent like others seem to want to do.
Cheaper? No, definitely not.
Memories.....more fun.....certainly.
Assess the initial costs of doing the camping thing, and that should help you make your decision.
Best of luck to you, and whichever way you decide to go, enjoy yourselves!

RE: Sticker residue

we used WD-40 to remove the glue. works very well, just have the smell to put up with for a few days.
Times ten...
WD-40 Can't be beat for removing sticker residue!
Times 20.
Don't spend money for the other stuff.

RE: Buying a new diesel pusher for first time (pointers?)

Buy a new one. If that's what you want --- buy new. We always do, and I wouldn't buy used (although buying used seems to be the consensus on this forum).
When you buy new you can choose your colors, equipment, etc. You know it's not been smoked-in or had pets in it, either of which will probably be covered-up (temporarily) with good smell-um by the seller!
No brocade fabric in a color you hate. No immediate issues facing you (tires, etc.)
No worries about how its been maintained.
A nice, full factory warranty.
Yes --- buy new if that's what you like. You deserve it, and can obviously afford it.
After all, your original question was NOT whether you should buy new or used, but you'll always get an influx of "buy used" suggestions. Seriously, if some of us didn't buy new, where would the "buy used" penny-pinchers ever find their next motorhome???......:C

RE: Neighbor hit my MH!!!

Two observations.
1. Yes, it was an accident. But, wouldn't most people STOP once they made contact with another object (vehicle) instead of dragging the damage all down the entire side of it???............:
2. And VERY important. Be sure you receive an amount for "diminished value" from his insurance company, over and above the repair costs. Everybody knows anything that has been damaged and repaired is worth less when you sell it (especially true for cars & trucks).
I preach this a lot, but usually get little or no response. But I'm sure when diminished value is NOT added to a settlement, those that ignore this will definitely pay for it down the road, at which time I can say 'I told you so' --- do yourself a favor and look into this aspect of it. The insurance companies are familiar with it, although none of them will voluntarily offer it, and the innocent party ends up paying for it in the end.
Good luck to you.

RE: How (where) do I sell my leftover RV Accessories?

I had a few used RV items that we no longer needed and I took them to a small independent RV repair shop and sold them to the owner. He said someone is always asking him for "used or cheap stuff". Worked out well.
This is a good idea.
C/L in small towns usually won't work, as you found out.
If you're not having luck on Ebay it is undoubtedly because your price is too high. I have an Ebay business, and have since 2002. Believe me, price sells. Keep lowering your price and you'll "find the market" -- at which time it will sell. Biggest audience you could ask for.
Best of luck to you.

RE: TRAVELING TO ALASKA FROM SPOKANE

Sounds like you're really concerned about the drive. I don't blame you. There are just some itineraries that we don't feel are RV-worthy, and this is one.
Consider this. Quick math tells me that you'll spend over $2000 on fuel alone for the round-trip. That's fuel alone, and nothing else.
Here's where the flamers will likely chime in.
Did you know you could do a cruisetour (for about $1200 per person, all-inclusive) round trip Seattle, cruising the inside passage, visiting Vancouver, Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, Seward, Anchorage, cruising Glacier Bay and Prince William Sound, then take the train to Denali, then back to Anchorage, flying back to Seattle.
Remember, about $2400 bucks TOTAL. And, a MUCH more relaxing trip to say the least, and you'll see a lot more with virtually no stress.
We love RVing, but sometimes there are much better options available, and in this case, for a LOT less money.
Regardless, enjoy your trip!.......:C

RE: OMG, otc medicine's out of date....

Not sure the concept of dating drugs is the same for everyone. Most are good long past the stamped day per some professionals.
Agreed. It's not like they're good one day and bad the next.
Same with leaving them in the heat. Common sense dictates you don't do that.

RE: Same money, older higher end coach or newer not as nice one

Have to agree with univmd...
We've never bought a used motorhome. I'd rather buy a slightly lower-end coach if I have to, and be the first to 'break the wrapper' -- It's in MY choice of colors, MY choice of trim, and to MY specifications.
I know for a fact it's never been wrecked, never been smoked in, never had pets pee in it, doesn't have any hidden issues, and if something does break -- I've got a factory warranty.
I buy slightly used cars, but won't consider a well-used motorhome.
Depreciation is far less important to me than ending up with exactly what we want.
No disappointments yet! To each his own......:C

RE: Same money, older higher end coach or newer not as nice one

Remember, a coach with 100,000 miles on it probably has 100,000 miles on EVERY component the coach is made up of, not just the engine. Without very detailed service records, showing replacements of various costly items, I'd pass. Just my opinion.

RE: Stuck in Lamoni...

Why would you go back in the office a second time (or third or fourth) once you were treated that way? All-in-all it sounds like you came out pretty much unscathed in the whole repair process. Let it go.

RE: Question about previous owner and a part

How did you get their email address? Certainly not from the dealer.
That aside, once you obtained the information, I would have handed it over to the dealer, since they took the trade-in. The previous owner owes you nothing. It was traded in to the dealer, so it should be his fight, not yours.

RE: Sales tax question -

If you are buying from a DEALER almost every state requires the dealer to collect THAT STATES taxes.
This information is wrong. Just the opposite is true. MOST states are reciprocal states, and collect no sales tax for other-state registrations. CA is one exception, and there may be others, but very few, if any.

RE: Knoxville to Gatlinburg - 40 / 66 / 441?

We used to live there, and still have a Condo there. 66 from I-40 to Sevierville can take you 20 minutes or 2-1/2 hours. Get a local, detailed map. That way, if 66 backs up there are many parallel routes you can take rather than sit in traffic. We learned that when we first moved there. Saved a LOT of frustration.

If I were 6'4" I'd really try out a Wrangler to be sure it's the kind of vehicle I'd want to be jumping in and out of on a regular basis.
