RE: I just bought a new car

DH and I traded our former car in January for a 2010 V8 Mustang GT (like new--only had 7,000 miles on it). It is red with a red leather interior. It is my daily driver and I LOVE it. Hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy my Mustang. :) I am 50 years old and it might be a second childhood, but I don't care!

RE: Texas wildflowers

I went down to Dallas last week for the Jimmy Buffett concert. I was really looking forward to seeing the bluebonnets as I had heard that they had a bumper crop this year. Unfortunately, they had already mowed the ones down along my route on Highway 75. Hope you are able to find some because they are really beautiful.

RE: Enough already

You might try your city councilor. When DH and I lived in a large city in Nebraska, a builder dug out a basement in the lot next to our home. He went bankrupt and the hole kept getting bigger and bigger until it started to eat away at our fence and our yard. The neighborhood kids were also using it as a playground. I was worried that everything would collapse at some point. I called the builder and he basically told me "tough luck", so I called the city councilor. The hole was filled in within a week.

RE: Open Range Residential 5th wheel

DH and I own a 2011 385RLS. We absolutely love our Open Range and have had no problems with it. It has a full size refrigerator and a large pantry. The build quality is better than the two trailers that we owned prior to this one. If we replace it before we retire, then we will buy another Open Range 5th wheel. We do not full time in it though--we only go out 3 or 4 times per year. The longest we have stayed in it at one time is 16 days. It would be a good idea to check with Open Range to see if they intend for it to be used for full time use.

RE: Anyone own an Open Range Roamer 316rls?

DH and I have a 385RLS. We purchased it a year ago and we absolutely love it. We have camped in both very hot weather and very cold weather and have had no problems with the climate inside. We love the quality of the trailer and would definitely purchase another Open Range again. We haven't had any problems with our 5th wheel except needing to put some caulk on the shower. The interiors are much nicer than our previous two trailers (one TT and one 5th wheel). The designs are not gaudy and don't look like they came straight from the 1970's. The only thing I would change is the appearance of the light fixtures over the couch and chairs in our rear living trailer. I wish they were a little nicer looking--such as a track light or two--instead of a standard oval shaped light fixture. I'll have to get DH right on replacing those lights! :)

RE: Snow in Oklahoma

We enjoyed the snow, too. It was much more welcome than the snow that started on January 31st last year. Everyone in Oklahoma remembers that week I bet.
Congrats on your puppy Tamra!
Thanks GM and Cat! Toby is a handful, but so cute and sweet that you can't bear to scold him. He tries so hard to be good and sometimes the devil just gets the better of him. :)
I agree with you. The snow "storm" this week was SO much better than the 18" we got last year at the end of January/beginning of February. If that is the biggest blizzard we get this year, then I'm good with it. It is so funny living here in Oklahoma in the winter. The slightest mention of snow and everyone goes to the grocery store for bread and milk! I don't remember that happening in Nebraska! Perhaps we are all a bit paranoid after last year's blizzard.

Snow in Oklahoma

We got about an inch of snow this morning in the Tulsa area and I was dreading the drive to work. Our 9 month old puppy got up this morning and saw snow for the first time. He sniffed it, then frolicked in it for awhile. The joy he had in playing in the snow put a whole new perspective on it for me. The drive into work wasn't as bad as I feared--DH actually brought me in--and I smile when I think of Toby in the snow this morning. :) Isn't it funny how one small thing can change your whole outlook on the day?

RE: New Mexico Green chili cheeseburgers

It's been awhile since I've been up north but you might check out Del's Restaurant in downtown Tucumcari or Joseph's Restaurant in downtown Santa Rosa. Both serve excellent food! In Albuquerque, try the Mule Barn on north 2nd street (don't let the outside discourage you-food and service is excellent!). Have a great trip!
We have eaten at Del's in Tucumcari several times. We stayed at an old Route 66 motel that has been converted into an RV park (nothing fancy, but for $19 per night, it is perfect for an overnight stay) that is about a 1/2 block from the restaurant. Del's has really good, reasonably priced food.

RE: Open Range 5th Wheels

DH and I have a 2011 398RLS. We love, love, love our Open Range. We have not had any issues at all with our 5th wheel. We have had it for a year now and have camped in it for about 30 days.

RE: Tragedy Strikes Oklahoma State.....

This is the second tragedy involving a plane crash and an OSU basketball team. Almost 11 years ago, the men's basketball team plane crashed in Colorado, killing players, an announcer and the crew--a total of ten fatalities. Very sad day here even though I am not an OSU fan (I'm a Nebraska fan). Prayers for the families of all four who were killed.

RE: I started the thread about overnite at rest stops

I must have missed it.......what is wrong with resting at a rest stop!?
Some seem to think that they will get beat up, raped, mugged, pistol whipped, propositioned and have their kids sold into slavery if they rest at a rest stop. :S
Crime DOES happen at rest stops. Last summer, two people were kidnapped and killed at a rest area in New Mexico that we used to stop at when we were in the area. It happened in the middle of the day and the couple had stopped to let the dogs out for a run. There were three Arizona prison escapees who were hiding at the rest area. They grabbed the lady who was walking the dogs and used her to get her husband to cooperate. They were taken to a secluded area near Santa Rosa and killed and their trailer was burned. Two of the three dogs were found in the area.
DH and I no longer stop at rest areas to walk our dogs. The crime at the rest area in New Mexico occurred two weeks after we had stopped there. It is near the interstate, so someone could have seen what was happening, but it isn't a busy rest area. I think you run into trouble at rest areas where criminals know that there isn't a lot of traffic and no one will see their crimes. We now stop at truck stops for brief stops and overnight in campgrounds. Everyone has to determine how comfortable they are regarding stopping in rest areas, but you shouldn't just dismiss crime in rest areas as people being paranoid.
LOL, you must have missed my first logical editorial. You may want to rethink your statement.
Yes, crime does happen at rest stops. It also happens at campgrounds, 711's and even in churches. Why didn't you mention those?
If your worried about getting hurt or killed your in the wrong hobbie. Your chances of getting killed in a traffic accident are by the 1000th power greater that getting hurt or killed at a rest stop. After all, our hobbie has us on the road......A LOT.
There is around 100 deaths A DAY in the US from traffic accidents. A DAY!!!!! And your so worried about rest stop you say you no longer walk your dog at one? :S How many deaths happened at rest stops a day in the US?
Following your logic you would be far more worried about getting hit by a asteroid than getting heart disease. (The latter of which is the #1 killer in the US)(The former, I don't know)
I will look forward to how you reconcil these statistics.
I don't have to reconcile your statistics. I never said that campgrounds are not dangerous or even driving on the highway isn't dangerous. The OP was about rest areas, not 7-11's or churches or driving on the highway. I was trying to stay on point by discussing crime at rest areas. You inferred that people were being paranoid by thinking that they will be "beat up, raped, mugged, pistol whipped, propositioned and have their kids sold into slavery if they rest at a rest stop.". I simply made the point that crime does occur at rest stops and it shouldn't be dismissed--after all that is what this thread was discussing.
BTW Scooterseats, both of the people who were killed at the rest area in New Mexico had concealed carry permits and had firearms in their TV. It is a very sad situation as these people were from OKC and just setting out to meet some friends for a vacation.
BTW, this is Mrs. TTStansfield and my opinions do not necessarily reflect my DH's views. He is away at sea and will be the only one posting in the future.

RE: Open Range

I recently saw one at a campground.. Talked to the owner and he had been overloaded with problems. The dealer was little to no help, luckily he was handy with fixing things... I told him about the Open Road Forum and that all his problems were listed on there and some had solutions...
We were looking at them too, but after all the problems I have read we have changed our mind..especially since the nearest dealer is about 3 hrs away...just not willing to stay on the road that much if I should need repair.
Please note that Open Road is a different company than Open Range.
DH and I own a 2011 385 RLS and have only had minor issues with the 5th wheel trailer since we bought it in February of this year. The shower leaked, which was fixed with some extra caulk. The shower head is way too high for us, so we replaced the shower head to one that can be swiveled down to our level. Otherwise, we haven't had any problems. We love our Open Range.

RE: Big Texan Steakhouse, Amerillo Tx>???

We stay at Fort Amarillo when we go through there--which is fairly often. It is on the east side of town, so we can head out in the morning and avoid traffic.
I wouldn't recommend taking a long 5th wheel in the parking lot of the Big Texan either. We have a 39' 5th wheel and would never take it through there. The steakhouse has always been very busy when we went there. We stopped going there after three really bad meals. We have other places that we go to now.
