RE: Anyone taken Hwy 22 from Cochrane to Entwhistle (PH16)??

I live along highway 2 and we use 22 whenever reasonable. Just a prettier more relaxing road to drive even if it does take a bit longer. If I was in your spot that is sure the way I would go. I don't know which is safer on a per vehicle basis. It does seem that accidents on highway 2 are frequent enough that they do not make the news unless there are multiple fatalities. The time of day would make a difference on either. For instance this afternoon being Friday of a long weekend #2 will be extremely busy.

RE: Summer in the Yukon - snow forecast for tonight

A beautiful +26C near Red Deer today and a high of only +7C forecast for Friday. Looks like it is shaping up to be a typical May long weekend! Hopefully rain, not snow.

RE: Canada Trip

Thats what we are looking for, absolutely beautiful!! Do you have any suggestions for campgrounds in this area? We will probably be there in mid to late July. We are 42' plus toad with 30-50 amp. Do you know if Dish Network will work in Canada? We decided to enter aVancouverer and probably exit in Minnesota. Orion in a previous post has suggested that after leavinVancouverer we drive to hope and then decide on Hwy 1 or 3 to Alberta. Hwy 1 seems to go to the area you are describing, again any problems with our MH on these roads. We have new neighbors that live in northern Alberta, but not sure where that we may also try and visit. The pictures are mostly on the Icefield Parkway. Vermiliion Lakes is just outside Banff Townsite. The best Campground would be Lake Louise. You will not find 50 amp service but it would be unlikely you would need your air conditioner. More likely you might use your furnace at night. You could visit Banff town, Yoho and Kootenay National Parks from Lake Louise. For sure make day trips to Morraine Lake near Lake Louise, Takakkaw Falls and Emerald Lake in Yoho. Either #3 or #1 will work. #3 is quite winding, will take longer and use more gas. You would also have to come N from Cranbrook. Both are scenic. #1 will have heavier traffic. If you wished to visit Calgary you could even do it in a day trip from Lake Louise. Then you could go to Jasper on the Icefield Parkway which is a must drive. From Jasper you could continue east on #16 through Edmonton, Saskatoon and join with #1 in Manitoba. Whistler Campground in Jasper would be best. The only other serviced Park Campground for your unit would be Tunnel Mountain at Banff townsite. It is undergoing renovations and not accepting reservations this year so I don't know what your chances would be. That is one reason for suggesting day trips. There are private campgrounds in Canmore, just outside the Park east gate. If you did want to spena a night or two between Lake Louise & Jasper there is a private serviced campground (David Thompson Resort) east of the park boundary on Highway 11. I haven't stayed in it but i know it is there. #11 is a good 2 lane highway with shoulders. Have a wonderful trip & don't hesitate to ask more questions.

RE: Alaska 2013 How Early?

Our May long weekend is the last Monday prior to May 25. Campgrounds will all be open by then. Many will be open earlier but are unlikely to have water at site until at least the 15th. You could cross into Southern Alberta in early May. Visit Head Smashed in Buffalo Jump near Fort McLeod, Tyrrell Museum at Drumheller, maybe Waterton: Weather will probably be some very nice days, possibly quite a bit of wind and interspersed with rain & even snow. Here is the weather Stats for Lethbridge. As you get closer to the mountains it is likely to be cooler and wetter or whiter, maybe :h

RE: Mouse/Mice proofing

I checked our units when we bought them and used the expanding foam on any place I could. Never a problem until this winter when 2 got in. Our empty plastic garbage pale with a plastic bag liner must have been up against the cupboard. They got in it but couldn't get out.Set 6 traps but no more. An unintentional trap but it worked,

RE: Places to see and visit in BC!!

B.C is a big beautiful province with most areas being worthy of a visit. For a cross section of the southern interior I would suggest coming up through Osoyoos and the Okanagan Valley,(Pretty with Orchards and wineries). Visit the Shuswap Lake area around Salmon Arm and Blind Bay. Travel the Trans Canada #1 tthrough the Rogers Pass (Revelstoke-Golden), Very Mountainous Take #93 #95 south to Cranbrook #3 West to Creston 3A north along the east shore of Kootenay Lake Very scenic area. Take the Free Ferry across the Lake to Nelson 3A back to 3 Do the circle around Trail & continue to Grand Forks then back to U.S.

RE: Spare tire for diesel pusher?

I'm not sure how many decades I had gone without having to change a tire. Then last year I picked up a piece of metal about 150 km south of Dawson City Yukon. We had been stopped a few minutes before & all looked OK then we stopped at another viewpoint and the tire appeared low. Within a couple of minutes it was flat (Fifth wheel). We were well out of cell phone range and anyway it was a Stat. holiday so I don't know if I could have got help. We changed it and were quickly on our way. A few days later I got a flat ot the truck on the Dempster. Again out oc cell phone range and a Saturday evening so who knows if I could have got service. That tire was about 1 year old, had maybe 10,000 km and was checked daily on the trip. You can have the best of tires, check them regularly and still have a flat. It may be in a very inconvenient spot at an inconvenient time. I understand your problem with a Class A but???

RE: TRAVELING TO ALASKA FROM SPOKANE

"Muncho Lake ... hmmmm ... the Northern Rockies Lodge can be VERY expensive. Careful if you book there. The two provincial park campgrounds are VERY nice." Sue.T's quote. We were going to stop there late last Sep't. Thought the lodge might be a nice place to have a supper after cooking our own for most of 6 weeks. They said $50. for a campsite & didn't know if they had water at the site. We didn't need water but felt they were not that interested, so we continued on & barbecued again.

RE: Traveling through Canada

Is it true it is all uphill to Canada? It is! With strong head winds all the way. That is why we needed larger gallons. Then we messed it up by going metric. Now distances are further and winds blow faster so we need way kmore gas.;);)

RE: Overwhelmed by Backroads Mapbook -- need advice

I agree with Gary Haupt. I think you need to be more concentrated or you will just be overwhelmed with information. Also keep in mind that B C has some excellent tourist bureaus strategically located which will have a lot of local information. Also Backroads books for the local area are usually avauilable in service stations and stores so even if you find yourself in an area you hadnt planned on visiting you should be able to find information. There are also a multitude of hiking books dealing with specific areas. Many will be available in the visitor centres. I went to the Chapters Indigo site and input Hiking British Columbia and came up with these. I could say much the same for Alberta. Hiking books often refer to a region. If you want an idea of what a specific region is like I am sure someone on here would help.

RE: Annual (2012) Comanche Invasion of Canada

Tentatively plan on invading Canada from North Dakota, slipping across the border into Saskatchewan, then raiding and pillaging my way west through Alberta and British Columbia to Vancouver and the ferry. Do they have electricity and inside facilities in Alberta?? Electricity yes, it comes from the sky and will send tremendous smoke signals if it hits your teepee. Inside facilities, not much, keep getting hit by electricity. Can I barter shiny yellow rocks for Canuckian money in Saskatchewan, or should I do it before leaving the US part of Turtle Island?? They will trade you for potash, which you can trade for wheat, which you can, well you get the picture. GM and his British Bride

RE: Bear Country

Banff National Park in Alberta. Fully hard-sided RV stays in one part of the CG. Fold downs, end slides of canvas, tents, anything made of fabric of any kind parks in a part of the CG inside of a high electric fence to keep the bears out. Seems to work really well for them, but they also have the same common sense rules as Yellowstone, etc. WHAT.... Since when.. Been camping here for MANY years, never been put in the `bear`section, let alone even heard of one.. I think someone was pulling your chain. The ONLY time you will get placed in a different area HERE is because your trailer won`t fit in another spot. We have the same rules as everyone else. Keep it clean or pay fines. Lake Louise has a fenced section for tents & soft sides. No other sites do.

RE: Glacier NP, banff and Lake louise

Jennifer The reason I asked what you were travelling in is that unless you are in a motorhome without toad I suggest you reduce time by visiting West Glacier in a day trip from East Glacier. You are going to want to do the Going to the Sun Highway anyway. Then move to Cochrane and visit the Stampede. From Cochrane you can drive into Calgary on 1A (Crowchild Trail). The C train (light rail transit) runs adjacent to Crowchild and would take you to the Stampede grounds. The biggest problem may be finding parking in one of their lots. Alternatively there will be some form of transport from Cochrane to the Stampede grounds. The same would be true from Canmore or Banff. It is just that your travel time will cut into your Stampede time. From there on the info provided by Powder Pig is excellent. The day trip as far as the Icefields would be great. Takakkaw falls is a must but again it is not an RV road. I second the suggestion to travel through Kootenay National Park to Kimberley and doing your whitewater rafting From Cranbrook take Highway 3 (Crowsnest Pass) to Lethbridge then south through Coutts|Sweetgrass border crossing. From another thread it appears you cannot reserve at Banff this year. If you do want to spend time there consider a private campground at Canmore. Book early at Lake Louise.

RE: Glacier NP, banff and Lake louise

The 19 days includes travel time? If so how much time do you expect to have for the areas identified? You have not mentioned your rig, do you have a truck or toad which makes it easier for you to park & get around. Some areas are not accesable to RV's. You did not mention Jasper. A drive up the Icefield Parkway is almost a must. A little more info & we will make some suggestions.

RE: Dempster 2011 ?

We took the trailer to Tombstone Park & road was great. We drove to Eagle Plain & to the Tombstone Park Boundary was fine. Further north +2C, strong wind, heavy rain, thick fog, soupy road with an extremely rough section of about 50k. We did hit a terrible day but it was a wet summer and several we spoke to had encountered problems further up.
