RE: Texas family picking up RV in MI. Desperate for route ideas

Having traveled to Alaska an back about 2 years ago and driving over 7000 miles in 4 weeks- a few words of advice- not sure the age of your kids- but your route takes you over I-75 and I-40 I think I would take the most direct route- home- you are buying either a "new" or used RV that you won't be used to and travelling almost 1300 miles- depending on the kids ages they are going to be getting pretty bored- I'd look at what kind of stops off the interstate that you can do that are fairly close-
We used microsoft streets and trips with a notebook computer with a GPS to track our current position and sites/stops withing a certian distance from our route- that hits a lot of the historical and other types of places and sometimes use this to plan our stops-
Walmart/Costco/Sams club are good places for gas and getting things you may need- there are several stores that allow you to overnight with no charge- you probably aren't going somewhere for the "amenities" as you won't have time- so pick the stops accordingly.
We found that 700 miles in 1 day was really hard- to drive a day and see how it works for you and adjust how you need to.

RE: Tips on trip thru Northwest

In Washington- use the two lane roads- you'll see the best country-
If you make it North use Highway 20- if its open-
Highway 2 if not
And if you don't make that far north- Highway 12

RE: network attached terabyte

Windows Home server is pretty slick- so are infrant Ready NAS- none of these solutions are "cheap" and they have a version of disk duplication not exactly raid.

RE: Dinghy Towing

Some jeep vehicles tow very easily-- I have done the wrangler & cherokees.
Working on a chevrolet cruze next.
STOP!!! GM is in the process of sending out owners manual updates that say you CAN NOT tow a cruze. Check with your dealer and read THIS
I have a manual Cruze- they are flat towable-

RE: Found trailer brake problem - factory error

another thing to think about it heat shrink that is lined with heat sensitive glue- common in marine applications where the glue melts with the heat shrink- I've done this for all of my toad vehicles and never had one come apart

RE: Seattle I-5 N to S or 405

If you come back through see if you can find out what events are going on in the area- thats when 405 is a wise decision

RE: Coleman Mach III Heat Strip

I use this in campgrounds that are noisy- the AC provides a great "White" noise and the heat strip can warm up the cool evenings

RE: Safety question re. class C's

No RV will survive a roller over impact- its basically a big box on a chassis- some makers use metal other wood depending on years.

RE: I'm a Student looking for information

There are some current Owners of Properties here on the site- see if you can identify them and get feedback- what RV'er want to not always tie into the bottom line- is there a "draw" to the area you want an RV park in?

RE: Typical Class C Owner?

Just entering 40, 2 kids, 3m and 18m and we used it as an excuse to continue our outdoor activities longer and have a base camp farther away from home. In the 3 years we've had the 24' class c- we've covered Alaska, Montana, Idaho, Washington and Oregon, and a few places in alaska. We use it about every other week in the summer and usually take 2-3 week long trips.
