RE: How do I check my genset coil?

Wires are fine. Found a post on another forum that since the coil fires both posts everytime, try switching the wires. I did and the other plug wouldn't fire so I definately need a new $70+ coil.

How do I check my genset coil?

It appears the rear plug on my Onan genset isn't firing. I've pulled the wire off/on with no difference in rpms and there's no spark when I ground the plug on the engine block. Before I cough up $80 for a new coil, I'd like to be sure it's really defective. I've got a Fluke meter, do I set the meter on AC or DC volts or do I need to use something else? Thanks.

I fixed it myself!

In an earlier thread, I blew a wire off my automatic transfer switch and my AC's started to die one at a time - had to cut our first trip short. Oredered a new ATS yesterday, FedEx delivered today, replaced it myself, everything works great and it was only $180. I'm ready to roll again!

RE: Replacing an automatic transfer switch

I decided to call Newmar and ask for their recommended replacement - (duh). They now use (and it's their replacement) a Progressive Dynamic PD52. They gave me a dealer's phone and for $160, I have one on it's way. Whether my old blown transfer switch was causing the AC units to not work, we'll find out - but it had to be replaced anyway . . .

Replacing an automatic transfer switch

It looks like I need to replace the my 16 year old automatic transfer switch. I'm hostage to genset on the lh and shore on the rh side, but will most any of the current 50 amp tranfer switch units work as a replacement? Thanks.

AC tripping circuit - I think this is going to hurt!

First trip out with the grandkids headed towards Yoge Bear park. Generator and roof AC running great then all of the electrical dies after an hour. Switch to coach batteries for the small dash fans. Got to Yogi, plugged into 50 amp and the roof took off and started cooling but it died 10 minutes later. Got to thinking about the genset so I pulled the cover off the power switching unit and noticed a black wire on the genset side had "burnt" off. Tried to turn the screw but the terminal moved so I assumed it's fused. Thought maybe I'll turn the smaller rear AC off since I might be pulling to much current. Noticed the front AC circuit had tripped so I reset it and it took off. But it tripped the circuit in another 10 minutes or so and shut off. I think my 16 year Duotherm AC has died - probably the compressor is shot and I assume I'm looking at a small fortune to get it fixed. I wound up paying $35 for a $15 fan at the local hardware and it plus the rear AC is keeping us reasonably cool for the moment. Just wondering if my diagnosis is correct? Thanks.

What's the going rate for wash & wax of RV?

I have a 35' Class A that I was going to probably wash myself and then maybe hire the 17 year old neighbor boy to wax it for me. (I have a power washer with a pickup attachment if there's any good spray on wax available like at the car wash). Just wondering what the going rate is for a wax job? I'm too old for a wax on, wax off . . . Thanks.

RE: Any sources for a small "porthole" type window?

I would teach them to stay off the steps unless they are coming in and then they could knock first. I don't see it as a big deal. The one I'm concerned about is my 2 year old granddaughter with a mind of her own . . .

RE: Any sources for a small "porthole" type window?

If you cannot find a small window, how about attaching a small mirror on the side of the RV( suction cup) that reflects down towards the steps. Duh - thanks Mike.

Any sources for a small "porthole" type window?

We take our young grandkids camping and we're always concerned that someone will open the RV door when one of them is standing on the steps. I'd like to put some type of porthole window - 12" round, 12" square, 9" x 12" rectangle - in the lower portion of the door to see that the steps are clear (from the inside). I've made numerous online searches but have come up empty - just wondering if anyone has seen anything like this listed somewhere? Thanks.

RE: Replacing Winegard antenna gear housing

Depending on the thickness of your roof, having the right tool for removing and reinstalling the nut can make the job a lot easier. Well duh . . . I went and got a 3/4" PVC coupling, a 15/16" hex nut, wrapped tape around it and pushed it into the coupling. Mixed up some JB Weld, forced it into the gaps, after it hardened I removed the nut, sanded it inside until my replacement nut fell into place. Looks like it should work great - thanks Dutch for the tip.
