RE: Roadtrek Mercedes oil recommendation

I don't have the V-6, my van has the older I-5 motor. I run the Shell Rotella T full synthetic 5w40. I believe it meets the MB standards and is easy to find. I buy it a Walmart. The European spec Mobil 1 isn't near as easy to find.

RE: Got something wrong in the rear end

There are several things that can do that.
A brake shoe hanging up, is a possibility, because of it appearing after being driven for a while. That causes heat and gets worse after being driven. Could be because of parking brake or a broken spring inside the brake drum. Parking brakes are activated by a cable and get corroded or frozen (not likely in LA).

I have one, but none of may windows have ever leaked. Can you determine where the leak is coming from? Is it coming around the window?

RE: tires for my 07 RS Adventurous Roadtrek

Virtually all new vehicles read faster than actual speed. What you will find is the odometer is 100% accurate and by changing to a larger tire, you will throw that off.
My van is a 158" wheel base, tall 2004 Sprinter and it got a lot more stable when I raised the front tire pressure from 55 psi (recommended)to 65 psi. Prior to that I was looking at anti-roll bars or air bags to fix the unwanted sway. I live in Kansas, where 20-30 mph winds are common and I've driven with the higher tire pressure with cross winds in the 50 mph range coming back from Denver and it's as manageable as any vehicle in the same conditions.

RE: basic question about the different holding tanks

One old timer ( our old moderator, I think ) recommended when you empty your black water tank to pour in a gallon of water, some low foaming detergent (Dawn is great) and a couple of trays of ice 0r a 1/2 bag. Then drive around for 15-20 minutes and let the ice to the scrubbing, then re-empty and rinse out the tank with extra water before storing your van. It works great and keeps the gunge sensor cleaned off.

RE: Roadtrek RS Adventurous and Gulfstream Vistacruiser MB

Before I bought my 2004 Gulfstream Vista Cruiser, I did a lot of research. Here's what I found out about the MB limitiations on conversions on the 2500 SHC 3/4 ton single rear tire models. The GVW is 8550 lbs, and MB limited conversions to 6550 lb. to keep factory chassis warranty. They limited the size and number of holes cut in the body. This was due to the unibody style construction of the Sprinter. If too many holes are cut in the wrong places, it weakens the van. I'm sure the hole limitations apply to the 3500 (1 ton) dual rear wheel models.

RE: Quote For The Day!

I'd go for bagpipes. Tuba's are made of brass and therefore have scrap value and would be stolen.

RE: SuperTech 15W-40 Oil for RoadTrek Onan Generator

I called Onan a couple of years ago and found out they didn't have a problem with 5w30 oil, so I used 5w30 synthetic in mine. My Onan is a propane unit and the oil still looks like new after 2 years and about 20 hours.

RE: Increased Range

You really need to go to http://sprinter-source.com/forum/ and ask your question. There are a number of MB Sprinter techs that can give you better advice.

RE: Why do Sprinter Class B Manufacturers insist on.......

Not having looked at newer conversions, but all the tall stuff is behind the driver in mine. It wouldn't matter, I have no windows past the sliding door anyway. I never look through it, I use the mirrors and small round blind spot mirrors to drive. Turning around and looking isn't needed. Even my wife, who has never driven a big truck, trusts the blind spot mirrors to see if changing lanes is clear. You don't need to see who's driving what when you want to change lanes, you just need to be able to see that something is beside you, details are not needed.

RE: 2003 Ford E350 Diesel Chassis questions

The 7.3 is a great engine. My son had an Excursion with 250,000 miles when he traded. He had a tighter than stock torque converter installed when he had the transmission rebuilt at 200,000 miles and after that, he got 16 mpg in town and 18-20 on the highway with 4wd, 39" tall off-road tires, the truck weighed about 7000 lbs.
The 6.0 that replaced that engine in Ford trucks was a piece on junk, there is lawsuit against International, who made it for Ford.

RE: I finally did it

It's a 5" Black & Decker built like a palm sander, so it's a one hander. I've had it for years and use it on the van and my pickup. It's small enough that by using one hand, I can switch hands. I have a 10" Dewalt buffer, but I would look like Hulk Hogan if I could do my van with it.

I finally did it

With a summer that has included 45 days of triple digit temperatures, I finally managed to get a cloudy Saturday with temperatures in the 80's so I could wash and wax my van. It only took about 5 hours, but would have been longer without my little power wax applicator.
22' long, 6' wide and 9-1/2 feet tall, sure gets big when hand waxing.

RE: Tire Pressure

My Sprinter was recommended to have 55 front, 79 rear. I found that 65 in the front made it much more stable and reduced sway and buffeting from wind.

RE: Picked UP RV Yesterday

Just went through this with an 2003 Mercury Gran Marquis. Ford used some stupid parts on the modular motors. On the 4.6 SOC motors, they used a plastic intake manifold and even though its a chronic problem with them cracking and leaking antifreeze, it was never a recall. The antifreeze leaks to the outside of the motor, so you smell it, but I couldn't find the leak. However, those motors use 8 individual coils, one per cylinder and they are very sensitive to moisture. 2 coils and 4 coil connectors, new intake manifold and it runs like new again.
I don't know for sure that the vans use the same intakes, but if it's missing and you can smell antifreeze.............

RE: GPS (Not my idea) HELP

I have a Blackberry 8530 phone. It's not one of the new phones that use Android operating system.
Sprint Navigation It works and does everything that it says it does. I looked, can't find where it says it's cell service based.

RE: GPS (Not my idea) HELP

I don't use Google for navigation, didn't even know there was one. I have Sprint cell service and use Sprint navigation. I may be cell based, I don't know, don't care. It works and I don't have to buy anything extra.

RE: GPS (Not my idea) HELP

The original post was about finding their way in cities like Chicago. I don't know if my cell phone needs a signal, the only time I've ever had a delay is where the GPS satellites can't be seen by the phone. Like in tunnels.
I've learned to trust the phone navigation when it knew that I had to go around a service road because of one way streets, when I could see where I wanted to go. It's taken me to the doorstep of friends that moved to Golden, CO and with the traffic and curvy roads, I would never have found it with a map.
