RE: Rincon Beach Parkway Near Ventura - Best Day To Get A Spot

The problem I have with locals (or anyone else) tag-teaming a space to keep it locked up is that nobody gets to enjoy it in the interim. They are preventing others from camping there for the better part of a week just so they can pay for unused days and have the site for the weekend.

RE: Converter/Charger problems

Very true.
You might have a bad cell in a battery, causing the charger to work all the time trying to keep it charged. Best to charge the battery, then disconnect the battery (negative lead alone is good) and measure the voltage. If under 12 volts, you have a bad battery.
Also check the voltage at the battery terminals when charging. Some of these converter/chargers keep the voltage too high, causing batteries to die early.

RE: Replace water line to ice maker

On mine, there are two ways to do it, remove the refrigerator (which I did) or remove the vent cap above the refrigerator and reach down. My water line is inserted into a rubber fitting on the backside of the ice maker, and you need to physically reach that point to attach the hose.

Also try Faria and Hobson beaches. These are two county parks, bookends on each end of the Rincon. Primitive sites costs a bit more than Rincon Parkway, but have picnic tables, fire pits, space for your stuff, and further away from the RR tracks. They also have full hookup sites.

RE: Rincon Beach Parkway Near Ventura - Best Day To Get A Spot

Probably Sunday. but it is hit or miss. Best to have a spotter with a cellphone or a backup plan.
The maximum stay as I recall is 7 days, and you rent from arrival time to that same time one to seven days later, This means sites can be vacated any time of the day or night,

RE: Seneca ride deteriorating

Reminds me of a problem we had with our Acura a couple of years ago. Really harsh ride. Turns out the shocks were bound-up. Instead of ansorbing shocks, they were preventing the springs moving. And these are supposed to be shock absorbers, not binders!
New shocks (actually struts) solved the problem.

RE: warning light on Cummings 330

Take it to a Cummins shop and have them plug into the computer port. The engine will tell them exactly the cause of the warning light. I had a similar issue on my 2003 ISL400, and they replaced a cheap part to fix the problem.

RE: RV or motel?

I did a calculation a year ago and figured the break even point for me (two people in an 8mpg motorhome vs. a 20mpg car) was around 300 miles per day. If the entire trip averages less than 300 miles per day, the RV is cheaper, a Banzai run that averages more than 300 miles per day for the entire trip is cheaper with the car and motel.
A trip like yours would be 3800 miles over 15 days, or 253 miles per day, favoring the RV. And I believe more people make for a higher break even point (although the car/trailer mpg being higher would also lower it bit.
Take the trailer.

RE: Neglected 5th wheel....not used in 2 yrs.

Check the burners and flues on the refrigerator, furnace, and water heater for nests and dirt.
Check the wheel bearings.
Check that the waste slide valves work. If the holding tanks dry out, the seals can stick.
