RE: Camp Site Locations

Are you going to make it up to Moab, UT and Arches National Park?? I rely heavily on rvparkreviews.com as others have mentioned. Enjoy your trip!

Older Class A Gasser prices

I'm trying to advise my Mom on what to ask for her 1991 32' Dolphin. It cost about $60K new, has always been garaged and has about 60K miles on it. Overall in good condition for its age. The NADA guide puts the value about $5500, which sure seems low. I found one exactly like it for sale for $9400 at this link. Looking for input as to how real-world the NADA guidelines are. Has anyone had luck selling a "vintage" RV for much over the NADA price?

RE: Fuel mileage

What kind of mileage should I expect to get with a 34 ft Monaco with 300HP Cummins? THks...AlExpect a little less than the average of what people claim they have gotten. wise man.

RE: moving cross country

I've always been fortunate enough to have a moving company do the work, typically paid by the company - but once paid for the packing/storage by myself. If you decide to do it yourself, maybe with the help of family and friends, I'd still suggest professional moving boxes, LOTS of packing material, don't overload boxes, and use padding and/or shrink wrap for furniture. Otherwise you will have alot of broken, soiled and damaged stuff.

RE: RV to the beach?

It's probably a little like taking a MH onto a frozen lake-----------maybe you'll be OK and maybe not. I got stuck in my own lawn once-------don't ask how. I'll join that club. Got stuck in my parent's lawn twice - once trying to get parked for an extended stay and once trying to get out! Good times. The first sign of trouble was me asking, "are you sure that will support 16 tons?" What's that saying - "if you have to ask..."

RE: How long for A/C to cool things down?

yes, there is likely alot of heat stored in the walls, ceiling, and even in the upper cabinets that will continue to radiate into the unit until dissapated.

RE: KVH In-motion satelite

I used to have one and it was my understanding that it needed a serial comm link from a compatible satellite receiver so that it would know when it was locked on a signal. Most of the newer satellite receivers do not have this serial comm link to my knowledge.

RE: Temporary tags for an out of state move?

Hmmm... WV doesn't have the notion of a "ferry permit" that will allow you to drive from point A to point B over a short number of days? That's what I did when I bought my rig from a private seller in TX but then drove it to CA to prep for going full time and therefore registered it in South Dakota.

RE: Travel in New Zealand

They also give you a pay-as-you-go cell phone to use while in country. We rented the 6-berth which is about the biggest you can rent down there. I was amazed at how quickly I got used to driving on the left, plus working the shifter to my left - after a day I was an old pro. How did you find the Mitsu Fuso or Canter to drive? Responsive enough? Ride? Power was respectable, engine braking on downhills amazing. Handles fine, even at highway speeds. A bit of a "tin can" - not alot of sound proofing so alot of road noise, especially when pebbles and such get kicked up in the wheel well. But, being so light you almost feel like you are in a car.

RE: Travel in New Zealand

I did NZ in 2010. Rented through Walkabout Rentals. The whole process was very easy, the RV was brand new and well equipped. They have multiple locations and you can pickup/drop off at different locations. We picked up in Auckland and dropped in Christchurch. They come pick you up from the airport and take you back when returning. We did have to call to remind them to come pick us up, so it was good my phone was enabled for international service. They also give you a pay-as-you-go cell phone to use while in country. We rented the 6-berth which is about the biggest you can rent down there. I was amazed at how quickly I got used to driving on the left, plus working the shifter to my left - after a day I was an old pro. When you get there, you may want to go ahead and join Top 10 Holiday Parks as the discounts will be worth it for your extended stay. They have a park in most of the popular areas and they are nice.

RE: Winegard SK-3005 TRAVLER

yep, paid about the same price for mine almost a year ago. Happy with it compared to the KVH dome it replaced, and the HDTV is GREAT!

RE: So What do you pay per KW hour for Electricity in RV Park

That sounds high. In Palm Desert, CA paying 11 cents. In Tampa paid 14 cents. But, supply, demand and market rules I guess.

RE: henderson beach state park , fl

I agree with the well-maintained sidewalk and boardwalk, you could get to the edge of the beach in a wheelchair. Also, there is a day use area you could drive to and have closer access. I also remember that the handicap sites are close to the bath houses with sidewalk access. Coin laundry there is also handy.

RE: New to Diesel fill in the truck lane?

I always use truck lanes at places like Pilot/Fying J, Loves and Petro. I like the ease of accessing the pumps and the fresh fuel. I've never encountered a hostile trucker; often they will ask me about our MH. The people inside who process your receipt seem indifferent to whether or not you are a trucker. X2 Never any problem. I often visit with the truckers. Just follow their procedure of pulling ahead to pay your bill so others behind can pull up and begin fueling. X3, and I try to "play nice", meaning if they are busy, once I fill up I will pull forward before going in to settle payment.

RE: Amana stove top burners wont light

odd for a new unit. sometimes I have a problem even when I see a spark and find that cleaning the igniters with a toothbrush helps. The other problem I have is that the wires sometimes fall off the piezo striker, but if you are getting sparks that is not your problem. Are you getting a draft from an open window perhaps that is diluting the gas?

RE: Maybe I should have bought a A instead of a 5er?

Class A was my first RV, though with my parents I experienced TT, class C, small class A. While 5ers are clearly more spacious and are less to maintain with no drive train, my main rationale was not wanting to have a big truck as my vehicle, secondary was the additional time/effort to establish and break camp, third, being single is the greater ease of backing a class A without a spotter.
