RE: Sea Foam in the Honda 2000 or other generator

According to the Seafoam website, "Seafoam will stabilize fuel for two years and control moisture". I use both Sta Bil and Seafoam every year. Now I am thinking I can ditch the Sta Bil. But, Seafoam is expensive! Anyone know where there are deals on gallons of Seafoam?

RE: more for the mile

Try and find the "comfort zone" of your engine/gear ratio. I watch my tach to determine what to set my cruise control at. For me, I am at right at 1,500 RPM's when I have the cruise set at 61 mph. If I go any slower, the rig hunts back and forth between gears. If set any faster, the RPM's go higher. For me, 61 mph is the sweet spot. Everyone should have a tach and drive by the tach. Good luck.

RE: Is a Dirt Devil or equivelant Central Vac worth it?

I like a c central vac is it as good as an expensive rotating brush power head floor vac ?? matter of opinion this is our second central vac we love the convenience and not having to store a big vac in our inside closet storage Iam in 110% agreeent with this post.Anyone that says the RV central vac does not have as much or more suction as a portable vac has no idea what they are saying We have the Red Devil central vac. It works and is convenient. But, we also carry a portable upright with a rotating brush head. Both myself and the DW will always choose the portable upright over the central vac. Yes, the upright has more suction power than the central vac. And yes, I do have some idea what I am saying. I have compared them both side by side both on vinyl flooring and carpet. The upright wins hands down.

RE: All electric coach

I have never had an all electric coach. While I don't see any downside to owning one, I am curious why all the propane haters? We never use hook ups. We are almost always boondocking. I realize I would be able to do this with an all electric coach just fine. But, I can also do it with my propane coach just fine. So, what am I missing by not having an all electric coach?????

RE: Residential Fridge ----- Awesome, awesome, awesome

Do any of you boondock for any length of time. even 2-3 days? or you always commited to elect. The amish replacement cooler seems a nice alternative I am not yet convinced. The convenience of a gas absorbsion refer is hard to beat. I have never had any issues with the Norcold refer. And I have never known anyone to have one catch fire. I know it has happened, but cars crash everyday yet we all still drive. I have four 6v golf cart batteries, a 2,000 watt inverter, and a genny. I suspect running the genny a couple hours each day would keep the batteries topped off enough. Propane is hard to beat. We dry camp most of the time. If I was full time and parked for six months at a time, maybe then I could see switching. Maybe if mine dies, the price will make the decision for me!

RE: Tiffon Allegro RED

I am troubled by some of the quality comments on this board as well as others. I may have to look hard again at Winnebago. Yea...like Winnebago has no quality issues?!?!?

RE: Tiffon Allegro RED

I do not care about all this how Tiffin takes care of me. Yes they will after $1,000 + in fuel and 65 days loss of my life. If my vehicle or boat, Regal, 38 were the same they would be gone- out of business- but the Tiffin line, all is good has kept them going. Come on folks, roof radius cracks still going on after 8 years. That is WRONG Period!! And see there...I do care about how Tiffin takes care of me! My 2008 Tiffin Allegro has had more issues than I hoped it would. But, none so far have been the fault of Tiffin. Five flip down TV's, three furnaces, eight furnace control boards, two slide out motors, one bad slide out relay, a bad changeover switch, a couple Freightliner recalls, etc. None of those were Tiffins fault. They were all products that Tiffin bought and installed on their coach. The issue is that many manufacturers turn their back on you when the warranty is up. Tiffin is still sending me replacement flip down TV's two years out of warranty. Tiffin actually does seem to want happy owners. Other manufacturers just don't care. If you get a trouble free coach, it has less to do with the manufacturer and more to do with good luck. Tiffin has problems just like everybody else. No more. No less. They just take better care of their customers than anybody else I am aware of, except maybe Newmar. I certainly appreciate your loyalty to Tiffin, but I do have to question your comment that none of the problems you've experienced are Tiffin's fault. If any manufacturer picks a particular vendor and that vendor provides shoddy parts or equipment, it is still the fault and responsibility of that manufacturer. If one of my employees makes a mistake it is up to me to rectify that mistake and it is my fault for having someone work for me who made the mistake. Whether Tiffin picked a particular vendor for price or whatever reason, the fact that the vendor provided poor merchandise means that the decision was bad and it is truly the fault of the manufacturer. The problems you have mentioned are in the extreme and caused you to lose time to enjoy a very, very expensive purchase. Regardless of how you are treated at Red Bay, I would be really ticked to have that many problems on a new MH. I completely agree with your analogy about the employee working for you. He makes a mistake, it is your fault. However, if the employee is using a machine to do his job and the machine breaks and stops working, is that the employees fault? Your fault? No. It is just something unforeseen that happened. Maybe you missed s shipment of goods as a result. It happens. Stuff breaks. And maybe that customer will never buy from you again as a result. It happens. Ultimately, you as the owner pay the price. But, it is really hard to find blame. Blame the machine manufacturer if you want to. I'm sure there are plenty of examples about Tiffin quality that is their fault. But they stand up and fix it. And they have been able to grow their business during these tough times. Again, the quality is no better and no worse than most any other rig. They just stand behind their product and fix it. You certainly can do worse than go with Tiffin.

RE: Front engine diesel Tiffins

Let's see. I drive my RV around 5000 per year. It's a gasser and averages 7.7 MPG and that figures to be roughly 650 gals of gas per year. If I had a diesel and got 9.8 MPG, that would mean my fuel consumption for the year would be 510 gals. So I could conceivably save 140 gals of fuel at $3.95 for a savings of $553.00. Considering that maintenance costs on a diesel is far more than a gasser, why would I buy one? I would have to shell out $35 to $50K more for a diesel motorhome over a gasser. Everyone claims that gassers can't keep up on the hills and that's baloney. I keep up with the trucks any day. Why do people have to try and justify everything? Minor correction to your figures. My new 2008 Tiffin on the FRED chassis cost $5,000 more than the same motorhome on a Ford or a Workhorse chassis. Not $35 to 50k. I would have paid $35k more, but I didn't have to. So, you can save $553 a year if you travel 5,000 miles a year. What if you travel 20,000 miles a year? Using your numbers, you would save more than $2,000 a year. By maintenance costing far more, I guess your are referring to the oil filter, fuel filter, and 18 quarts of oil. That cost is about $90. And I do it myself. Your V-10 oil change is $25 if you buy everything at WM. So, I spend $65 to save $553 every year I travel 5,000 miles. Not too bad. Since I change oil at 7,500 miles, that $65 saves me closer to $750. But, who really cares about that. Saving money is not why I bought a depreciating asset like a motorhome. Say what you want about gassers keeping up with the trucks, but we all know what gassers can and can't do on the hills. I had a gas motorhome, with a full Banks kit. It ran OK. But, not like a diesel. The question to go diesel or gas just does not come down to one thing like cost of ownership. For me, I wanted the diesel. Not because it would pay for itself, or it would pull the hills better, or the engine would last longer, or the great exhaust brake, or the bigger chassis, or the four wheel disc brakes, or the larger tires, or the bigger Allison tranny. I just wanted it. The fact that it will more than pay for itself by getting better MPG and higher resale value is just a bonus. So, if you don't want one, don't buy one. You bought what you wanted. I bought what I wanted. We are both happy. Life is good!

RE: RVing single

I lost my Mom a year ago July. And she lost her DH (my Dad) two years before that. They were Asst. State Directors (CA) for Good Sam for a number of years. They worked the RV shows for Good Sam and for Traveland. When my Dad passed, my Mom stayed on as staff for Good Sam. I would drive my motorhome out for her to stay in and then go back and pick it up when she was done. She was treated very well by all. They invited her to go everywhere with them. She was very glad that she continued camping. The weekend before she passed, I have a picture of her with us and a group at a campground toastign the camera. Not sure what is best for you. My condolences on your loss. If you really enjoyed camping, like my Mom, I hope that you can find your way to continue to camp. Best of luck.
