RE: Sat dish for HD TV and Internet Access??

We went up to Estes Park and stayed at a pretty campground that had absolutly no signal of any kind because it was just outside of a cell. Had to go into town to make a phone call but we were not there to mess with the internet but to go up to RMNP and enjoy the wonderful country. We did have our Direct TV working ok so we knew what was going on in the world. In fact I got to get back to a book I had been reading without worrying about signals etc.
After that we headed back through Nebraska and never had a loss of signal and also all the way home to Texas.
The year before we went out to Long Beach and never lost signal including going back home via Flagstaff and New Mexico.
Because we are retired time is our friend and we can drop off the net without any withdrawal symptons. Unfoutunatly we bought a couple of IPADS and they are addictive so our usage is back up.

RE: Sat dish for HD TV and Internet Access??

Just get the Winegard dish that is HD and self aiming. Forget about internet via satillite. Too slow and expensive.
Get a Verizon or AT&T Hotspot which will accomodate 4 wifi users. Verizon has the most coverage in the US followed by AT&T.
We use the hotspot on the move and it automatically switches between 3g and 4g as we cruse down the interstate. Wife was on it with her Ipad linked via Wifi to the hotspot on our last trip and never lost contact with the web.
We never use the CG wifi because most are not very good and a lot of the CGs have a daily pay service.
As far as charging we use a 450 watt inverter plugged into a 12 volt lighter which gives plenty of 110 volt power to charge both the hotspot and the Ipad or laptop. That way we dont have to use the genny to get 110 while driving.
The Ipad will get about 10 hours before recharging but the hotspot only has about 2 hours before it needs to be recharged. My experience with it is that I just leave it plugged into the inverter while we are moving and it has not harmed it in any way. When we get to a CG it gets plugged into the regular 110 outlet.
Because the Wifi is a secure connection there is no problem with someone piggybacking on your hotspot or intercepting your transmissions. Each hotspot has a unique security code which you need to make the connection to your PC which will then be rememberd so it does not have to be rentered the next time.
Good luck.....

RE: front brakes overheating and abs warning light

I had a MH with the P30 and I had the lockup problem and when I got into it I found out the the brake hoses were at fault. Inside rot will not allow the brake(s) to depressureise. Once the rotor & caliper heat up it the individual btake will begin to drag and then lock. This is a well known fault on the older GM units. If you get,it before the rotors and calipers are ruined it will be a fairly easy fix.
In my case I got it before too much harm was done and replaced all the hoses and master cylinder and flushed the system. Problem solved but several more problems cropped up and I traded it off for a Bounder on A Ford chassies. Much better engine and handleing.
No more Gm units. After this Ford V10 gets to where I think it needs to be replaced I will get a DP...

RE: Which ScanGauge is best?

I have ultragauge and it works well on all 4 of my vehicles and costs less then $100. Comes with suction cup window mount and a six foot cable. Showes and resets codes easily. Of course if you really have a fault the code will just come back.
Just google ultragauge ....

RE: Bounder 35E

Have a 2000 Bounder with the early V10 and have. been pleased with performance once you get over engine noise which all front engined units suffer from. Look around, and you will see a lot of V10 units. Proven engine and transmission conbination.....

RE: V10 in 2000 Winnie

I have a Fleetwood Bounder 36s with the V10 and other then the noise it is a sweet engine. I had a 97 Allegro Bay 34 ft wthe the Chevey 454 and altho it did a good job the V10 surpasses it in every way including milage. Don't plan on changing plugs until absolutly needed and then it goes back to Ford for that fix.

RE: What computer does HP's Chairman Use?

Hopefully, with Meg Whitman taking over perhaps their overall consumer product line will see an improvement in quality.
Currently we have a HP laptop, a Lenovo laptop, and a IIPAD2 and the HP's DVD drive has failed along with a flakey sound card. The Lenovo so far has been bulletproof and has not had any issues and the IPAD also has been fine.
I have owned several older HP products like desktop computers and printers and never had any serious problems like the current Hp laptop.
Given my experience with HP and their customer support I will not be replacing the HP laptop with another HP product in the future. In fact the Lenovo was the replacement for the HP.

RE: Verizon 4G Mobile Hotspot

I got aMIFI4510 and a new phone for $129 and recieved $100 in rebates from my local Verizon store.
This hotspot replaced my CRADLEPOINT router with the older 3g EVDO Usb modem. Router went south so I got the hotspot. I live in a rural area and the local tower only does 3G data and 4g voice. The hotspot sucks compared to my old unit. Battery life is short and it need recharging frequently. Solved that with a interval timer I bought on Amazon. It will go dormant on me and has slow response and suffers from occasional disconnects. Occasionally I have to go up to the loft and pop the battery out to reset the piggy little thing so it will reconnect after turning it on again.
I have made a few setting changes but they have yeilded very little in the way of improvements.
I am sorry I just did not by another router and be done with it.
We have two PCs and a IPAD which get alot of use so this unit is a PITA.

RE: Even brake users

Mine works well below a altitude of 7400 ft. Newr ones have had a program channge to fix that fault.
If I had to buy another unit I would buy a Blue Ox which uses a electric servo motor instead of a compressor and air cylinder.
Above 7400 ft my compressor cant pressurize the reseve tank in the unit enough to set it up to test.
Roadmastaer has a new smaller unit which is cheaper then the Even Brake unit which may be something to look into.

RE: I Just Got Attacked

Had $1500 worth of damage to my car due to rats hoarding dog food. Food gets picked up at night. I also use electronic repelers in the house, barn, and in the Mh. Additionally I use the one bite poison but I use platic bottles and drill two holes so I can wire the poison into the bottle so it cant be carried off. Forces them to eat the stuff in the bottle. Old coffe cans, peanut butter jars etc.
Just so it has a mouth big enough for the vermin to crawl into. The one I keep under the MH is attached to a brick as it has been dragged off and I had to track it down before I did the brick anchor.
I even had a fuel line to my genset chewed over the top of the tank. That was the last straw. Thats when I went into overkill mode. Rats, Mice, and Squrrels (who chew my log house) get poison or pelllet treatment. Besides it improves my marksmanship.

RE: Do you have a very comprehensive winterizing instructions?

All of the above comments are great especially the one about going south before winter. The one thing missing is what you have to do in the event you have a washer on board. If you have a Splendied it takes a specific procedure to protect it. Blowing it out does not work. You must use RV antifreeze to fill the valving and pump system because it wont drain. This can be found at the washers web site in the form of a downloadable PDF.

RE: Winterizing (Air- Anti Freeze or Both)

If your RV has all PEX lines then blowing out is OK. If not then pink stuff is foolproof. My MH has a low spot that wont drain or blow out and will freeze. Have replaced with PEX but antifreeze is cheap and I installed a suction line on my pump that will draw antifreeze from the jug so it is easy to chArge the system. The previous owner spent 4K replacing lines due to freezing with PEX except for the low point I found and fixed. Still have some PVC in the kitchen and hot water lines so pink stuff is best safeguard. JMHO..

RE: Testing "bad" satellite cable

My sat went out and it was not the cable. Check continuity from where it connects at the LNB to your box. I used a wire with alligator clips at each end and commected the center wire and the connector and then checked for continuity with my VOM. Wire was ok so it was the LNB gone bad.
Found Stark electronics on the web and bought a twin lead LNB for $5 plus shipping. Fit my Winegard crackup dish just like then original single lead LNB. Just cap off the second lead with a bit of silicone to keep the moisture out.

RE: Best Preowned

Purchased my currentt MH two years ago from them and it was a decent unit and the warrantee was a 3rd party deal which was ok. They made me a good deal and took my old MH in trade.
I was ok with the deal and we have enjoyed the one we bought from them and have made several long trips with it and nothing major broke.
If you have any doubts about them check BBB to see if they have any complaints against them.
They obtain most of their units from bank repo auctions and have a pretty good setup in Houston to detail them and do any fixing up needed. They are very experienced and usually stay away from the dogs and can tell if a unit has been abused because something like that can cost them too much to fix and make ready for sale plus damage their reputation.
As far as flooring I like the laminate they put in mine but they will remove the old carpet and put new in if you don't like laminate.
If you can get to Houston and check a unit out with them so much the better.

RE: Towing w/magnetic lights

I use mag lights and I also run the wires into the car and out under the hood. I use some 4 inch bungee cords to tie the wires down to the tow bar . Never have had a problem. Found them at Walmart packed in a screwtop jar. Handy for lots of odd jobs requiring temporary hold downs.

Get on Ebay and search for Ford 250 headlights. Lots of choices and prices are reasonable. I have a pair of fogged up headlights on my Bounder and I am going to replace them with projector type headlights this summer.

Lock everything.... Just to reduce temptations of the not so honest people I have encountered in rest stops etc.
Pretty safe in most CGs but have been in a few where there is are some long term residents or traveling workers who may have itchy fingers and willing to take advantage of any situations they may come across..... JMHO....
