To quote Jay Leno:
A man from Chicago that desperately wants to get on Mt Rushmore??
It must be Barak Obama!!

One of our favorites too.
Never had an issue there, but the things mentioned could be encountered anywhere any time.
Great park.

RE: US 87 west side of Dumas TX?

Yea, I've definitely got plans B and C in place. The lady at city hall said it is a first-come first-served basis, and I'll be going thru on a Sat evening, so I'm certainly not counting on there being an opening.
Now that the bridge/overpass project is completed, things may be back to normal around there.

RE: US 87 west side of Dumas TX?

Just talked to a lady at the Dumas City Hall and she said the construction is completed.
I think we are going to go thru Dumas now that it's completed, and take advantage of the free RV park there for an overnight when we go to CO in June.
Have you ever stayed there?

RE: Cheyenne Mountain State Park

I don't think it's a case of not being dog-friendly...it's to keep Fido from being turned into a meal for a predator. Unlike central and south Texas, they have bears, mountain lions, etc in that part of the country. Walking a dog on the trail is just to tempting for them!
We are going toCheyenne Mountain SP in July and can't wait!!

We've been all over SW Colorado (in San Juan NF esp.), hiking with the retriever. The national forests are far more "wild" than the state parks. I think a lab or golden retriever are a requirement to live there, from all the hikers we meet on the trail with canine companions! We practice bear safety, and I'm sure we have more cougars in Texas (even here in Bexar Co.); both black bears and cougars are pretty shy (esp the cougars), so that really is no factor. Armed with a little common sense (and a can of bear spray left over from Yellowstone) and I am not worried about wildlife at a heavily used suburban park like Cheyenne Mt SP. The two-legged inhabitants at the park are a bigger problem than any four-legged predators, anyhow. My point is simply to be aware that CO state parks are restrictive to dog owners, and to be prepared for it.
SOOOO true!!

RE: Cheyenne Mountain State Park

I notice you have little dogs; although Colorado is generally a very dog-friendly state, that state park (and some other CO state parks as well) is not very dog friendly. They are not allowed on any trails, only along the street. We have a flatcoated retriever, so when she is with us we opt for private or National Forest/BLM campgrounds in that area.

RE: Dallas,tx to colorado springs

What about taking FM 1061 out of Amarillo to connect with hwy 385? Saves about 20 miles and looks like a good road. Is it not?
Don't mean to hijack, but I'm headed to CS in July.
Thanks,
Mark

RE: BF Goodrich TA

Love my BFGs so much that I pulled them off of my Jayco when I traded it in for my Sierra. They only had about 3000 miles then, and are still going great.
I got mine at Discount Tire. Great warranty and locations all over.

RE: Lesson about coolers

I have to tell this story...We were at Ft Davis a couple years ago, and the neighbors left all there "stuff" out on the table when they went out for the day. We got back just after dark and noticed their stuff scattered all over. They pulled up shortly after us, and we heard one of the kids (probably 8 or 10) say "stupid warthogs!!". We still laugh about that!!
Love Ft Davis SP!!

RE: 38+ foot 5th wheel in state parks?

Just be sure that, when you make reservations online, that you do enter the length in the reservation form.
I ran into a problem with this once, but it was my fault because I didn't indicate the trailer length and it let me reserve a site that was too short for my 40 footer.
It was at Meridian SP, where they only have about 6 sites big enough for a 40 footer.
But that is the only park I've run into this problem so far.

RE: Ozarks....where to go with two nine year old boys

Want to take my two nine year old grandsons to Ozarks this summer for some fishing...looking for places to rv camp on a lake...rent good quality boat and enjoy some relaxing time fishing....
2 nine year olds and relaxing? Isn't that an oxymoron? :)
We absolutely love Beaver Lake. We stayed at Beaver Dam Site Park.
15 minutes to Eureka Springs with lots to do.
War Eagle Mill is close by and very interesting.
The fishing is great on Beaver Lake.
Several parks around too.
Enjoy!!

RE: colorado springs rv park

We stayed at Cheyenne Mountain State Park and absolutely loved it, large sites, paved with gravel picnic/firepit area, we saw deer every day.
Great pics!! Do you remember the site number?
We are looking to go there in July if there is still availability for our 40 footer.
Thanks,
Mark

RE: Rockport, Port Aransas or Corpus Christi ?

For quiet time on the beach - Corpus/Mustang Island
For touristy shops , etc - Rockport
For a true taste of coastal Texas - Port A
But they're all only 20 miles apart...so do 'em all!!

I agree. Just a bad day. I personally like 281 better, but 35 is usually not that bad. SXSW and spring break together is just too much.

Not gorgeous and fancy like so many of you have, but this thing is in amazing condition. Its been VERY well taken care of. I got an absolute steal on it, especially considering the condition it is in.
Nothing wrong with that...and I bet you don't have the "fancy" monthly payment that a lot of us have!! :E :W
Enjoy!!
