RE: Diesel ford ranger

yea, diesels in small pickups, don't last and don't get good enough mileage. i guess some friends of mine who have early ford rangers and mazda b2200's. some with over 700,000 miles on the original engine. get over 40 mpg with over drive. my 83 non-turbo truck gets 26-38 mpg. averaging 26-28 in town and low to mid 30's on the highway. the problem is, when these trucks were built, diesel wasn't as available as it is now. they smoked like crazy until they came with turbo's. then gm came out with a converted gas motor. that convinced people that diesels were a expensive, smoking and gutless wonder.... believe it there are a few of those gm engines still running, of course the owners didn't drive em hard and always let the engines warm up before using full throttle.

RE: Diesel ford ranger

the world ranger can be bought with a 1 ton rating. also in a 4 door cab, the 4 door - long bed option has been dropped . we can thank the epa and other gov regulations for preventing the diesel ranger availability in north america.. also the pricing would be to close to the f-150. ford thinks sales of the f-150 would drop.. of course it would, with a decent smaller truck... parking a full sized 1/2 ton is just asking for dents in the sides of your doors.. unless you take a bit extra from the space next to you..

RE: AC evaperator

evaporator core $120-150 heater core $60-90 blend door upgrade, $150 ??? labor 7-10 hours $800-900 buy cheep china parts you will spend the labor money again in just a few years.. don't use a/c sealants.. it may plug the control orifice or temp control valve depending on system type.. if you ever need to have system serviced again. all a/c components/hoses will need flushed/replaced.. = lots of $$$$ or you may not be able to get the system worked on.. many shops will stop work as soon as they see signs of sealant in the system. will cap the system and return the vehicle as is or call to get approval to replace the whole system...

RE: Towing long or short TT?

my 34' tt works fine with my dual cam set on a light setting. it prevents porpoising, which i get without using them.. also cuts the sway caused by trucks passing. a long truck does make the ride very stable.. parking is a bear, with long trailer and long truck...

RE: Towing long or short TT?

the larger trailers catch more air off passing trucks and side winds. you'll need more room to park and maneuver. have lots more space inside for goodies. so will weigh more... the longer trailer possibly will have room for a washer/dryer combo, which is handy...

RE: Forgot to close tank valves

make sure all of the tank valves are closed.. put a tablespoon of rid-x in each drain and the commode. flush/run some water in each. leave the black tank valve closed when using a full hook-up park. when the black tank is almost full. close the gray tank valves for a day. dump the black tank, close the valve flush the hose out with the gray water. leave the valves open until the next time the black tank needs dumped. or close em all if your going to be traveling..

RE: refer on propane???

the house batteries are deep charge, they are not designed for a full start load. you will be buying all new batteries if you keep stressing the house batteries. get the engine batteries replaced... and the fridge uses very little power to run the circuit board and light. less if you don't check the light very often...

RE: EOS..Engine Oil Supplement

if the lifter ticks first thing in the morning then gets quiet, your o.k. it's just oil leak down. if it ticks all the time, it can be one of the following: a) the mechanical parts within the lifter are stuck/collapsed, it needs replaced... i would change them all... b) the cam, lifter rollers, valve train has excessive slop and the valves need adjusted. this may be done with a adjustment of a nut/bolt, shaft, and/or spacer replacement. sometimes just using a thicker grade of oil will take up the slack..

RE: Roof A/C not blowing cold, can it be recharged?

sounds like a corroded contact in a relay or switch. just enjoy and be sure to use the switch every so often to keep it from sticking. (be prepared it may require you to cycle the switch/relay several times to have the unit come on again... have the switch/relay replaced during the off season...

RE: Roof A/C not blowing cold, can it be recharged?

could be a electrical issue. have it checked. if it's simple, fix it. if it has a compressor problem, replace it. buying a used unit to replace a used unit. you will spend to much in labor, for something that you don't know how long it will last... (unless you can do it yourself). the biggest problem is the added cost to the repairman due to increasing regulations, which some are good. but require ever more expensive procedures and equipment. which of course is passed on to the consumer.. 'you'..

RE: HOW do you do it?

wrong time of the year to go from a temperate climate to a extreme climate. depending on the size of r.v. you would need 2 a/c units or a swamp cooler. the middle of the day is for siestas... best time for desert camping is the winter, unless you get into the mountains. then you will have a more comfortable climate. (bring sun screen)..

RE: Diesel or Gas, why is this a big thing for me?

follow the trucks when you need fuel or get a fuel finder app for your smart phone. diesel engines out pull gas engines using less fuel. (for the same size and weight of vehicle, a diesel powered vehicle will get better mileage and have more pulling/pushing power than a similar sized gas engine).

RE: Suggestion: Balance your tires

RE: Wt Distr Hitch is not recommended for our vehicle

adding a weight equalizing hitch may bend the frame just in front of the rear tires. pinching your vehicle rear doors so they won't open. with use, the frame may crack and split.. the safe bet is to get a ultra lite, mini camper. anything that weighs more than half of the weight of your vehicle is to much, with the honda pilot. the honda pickup is a more capable vehicle to tow with...
