RE: Something crawled into the engine compartment and died!!!

Thanks everyone for the good ideas. I did as suggested and put a snug piece of vacuum hose over top of the tubing.
Total cost was 1.12.
I'm lucky this was the only damage...time to go camping now!

BTW: the pic was snapped from inside the MH, the red hose is in the upper right corner when facing toward the front window.

Something crawled into the engine compartment and died!!!

So I could faintly tell there was an odd smell when washing my motorhome. Sure enough I got a flashlight and looks to be a nest of some kind on the engine, at the back of the compartment. So I cleaned that up and it was horrible - like really bad.
Anyway, I pulled the doghouse cover and found the critter has cut a wire or a hose - not sure what it is so I snapped a picture. The MH ran with this cut so I'm hoping I can get to the garage with it.
Any ideas what this is for???

RE: need a math person on disney

We go once a year and used to buy at least 10 days at a time with no expiration but since the last price changes its less worthwhile to us. Of course we're buying 5 tickets so the up-front money to put out for future years is in the thousands.
Using your example of using only 5 days
A 10 day pass with no expiration is $25 more expensive than two 5 day passes that expire. Also Disney gets your money up front with the 10 day pass.
The expiration option on a 10 day ticket is just short of double the price $310 to $550

Stayed at this park last summer with my son. We did many provincial parks north of Sudbury and this was our favourite. Very quite, good fishing

RE: It's here! 2012 Jayco Seneca finally is on Jayco's Website.

I have walked through many coaches, I have never-ever found Jayco to be superior to other peer brands. Jayco's claim to fame is warranty and customer support. I have visited the factory and found that they often seem to be more guilty than peer brands of cutting corners in construction. I'm not trying to start a flaming match - just saying I'm not sure what "research" you've completed on Jayco but in my eyes (16 years in the aerospace business and 5 years in lean/six sigma) they are no better to peer companies.
Everyone has an opinion and you're certainly entitled to yours, i'm just not sure what the reference to your aerospace business experience here is all about.
I bought a Jayco after a considerable amount of research - I won't bother commenting on Jayco itself as almost every buyer defends their purchase decision (good or bad) but I will say I stand by my research. Based on this I can say without a doubt Jayco is superior to some if not many other brands in some things and vice versa. If you have never-ever found Jayco superior on anything you certainly weren't looking very hard

RE: Jayco Greyhawk

I looking for some input from those that own one. We are looking at a new purchase and have narrowed it down to Jayco Greyhawk 31FK and the Itasca Impulse 31CP. While I beleive the quality of the Itasca may be somewhat better we prefer the floorplan of the Jayco. It is one of the few units that doesn't have the TV at the ceiling. My only question concerns the rubber roof on the Jayco. I have no experience with them and it kind of makes me nervious given all the horror stories I have read.
You can click on my username and lookup my previous posts - I recently commented on this very topic as I narrowed my final decision down to Winnebago and Jayco. Write down whats important to you and work with it to do a quick evaluation to come up with the winner. In our case we went with the Jayco and have been happy. I really believe we would have been happy with the Winnebago as well - just would have paid more.

RE: Towing behind motorhome?

Do the math and also see what vehicles can be towed on a dolly and I thin you will pick the dolly!
I Disagree as well. If all of our decisions were based solely on financials we would not own RV's at all. If $3500 was the real number (which it's not) I would pay it for convenience of 4-down towing.

RE: helper springs on a class c

I just removed the Hellwig helper springs that came with the camper and put on a set of airbags. My main complaints withe the helper springs are
- I could not adjust them enough to level the ride height
- they are noisy, not a big deal but I didn't like it
- even though they have been on the rig since new the ride height is lower than it was and I now scrape my driveway
The air bags solved each of these problems

RE: holiday trav-l-park virginia beach

hi all, just booked a week at holiday trav-l-park in va beach based on its website. after checking out some online reviews i'm hoping i didn't make a mistake. most of the complaints were the intolerable jet noise, rude, unaccomadating personnel & cramped sites. as i value my fellow rv.net's opinions please let me know if i make a mistake!! thanks!!!
I hear all these positive reviews and had to check my logbook to make sure that is where I went in Virginia Beach, sure enough it is.
I've been to many parks and campgrounds over the years and this one is in the bottom 5 for sure. They pack you in tight so your experience is entirely dependent on what your neighbors a like. When we were there it was busy and we had lots and lots of neighbours...

RE: Courtesy Car at Rv Parks?

Question:I searched with no luck, but do some RV parks have available a 'courtesy car' if one wants to run a few errands (ie, run to Home Depot). I know general aviation airports offer up this option frequently, just curious if any of you have seen this in your RV travels?
There are places that offer the use of cars (not sure if courtesy or not) but all that I've seen were campgrounds linked with Marina's - seems this service is more common with the boating crowd. They're not advertised either (at least in the campground) but were available to RVr's

RE: Looking at Winnebago 31JP VS Jayco 31FS

I agree with maddawg in at least getting a quote from rvdirect.com on the Jayco. We did that as well, but we also had a good size Jayco dealer in our area. We took that quote to them with all the options we wanted including the levelers and in-motion sat. And a few other items and the dealer came within $600 of the rvdirect price. I suggest giving this a try as it is nice having the support of a local dealer if any issues were to arise.
This is a great place to start a discussion on price - I did the same thing and was prepared to buy south of the border. I ended up working with my local dealer to import our Jayco

RE: Looking at Winnebago 31JP VS Jayco 31FS

We are looking at purchasing a new motorhome and taking a serious look at Winnebago 31JP and also the Jayco 31FS. We are finding pros and cons to both but are totally on the fence. Any one offer advise on quality of Winnebago. We are familiar with Jayco products owning a travel trailer of theirs in the past. Also looked at Sunseeker 3170 but I think the fit and finish is much nicer in the Jayco and Winnebago for the little difference in cost. Any advise appreciated.
We found ourselves choosing between 2 similar units from the same manufacturers 5 years ago when we bought new. I buy lots of stuff in my day job so based that experience I applied some simple criteria and came to a decision.
In our case:
- both were on the E450 chassis of the same year so that was equivalent for both
- the floor plans were equivalent and the interior colours etc. were both acceptable to my wife
- the dealer was the same as they sold both - this would be a really important factor for me as you're going to need support from somewhere regardless of which one you buy
- the quality was similar - so many people comment that "their" choice is the best but we found the components were the same in many cases and the finish wasn't noticeably different
- there was some differences in construction (fiberglass/tpm roof, airbags/helper springs). The Jayco came out "2nd" in these two cases. this is a show stopper for some but given good maintenance not a huge difference to me
- Jayco had a two year warranty, Winnebago 1 year
- Jayco was lower cost - turned out to be quite a bit
We bought the Jayco and 55,000 miles and an average of 65 nights/year and we're happy with the choice. I think I would have been equally happy with the Winnebago - just would have paid more.

RE: V10 Miles Per Gallon...what's yours?

Geez...I would be doing cartwheels if I could see 8 mpg. Heck, 7.5 and I would at least stand on my head!!!
8822.2 miles/1307.931 gallons = 6.745 mpg.
Driving 60-62 with Frog.
This is almost identical to my experience as well after 50,000 miles, 6.5 to 7 mpg around 65mph. I would love to figure out how others achieve mileage so much better.

RE: Blue Ox Aventa LX Ball Joint wear

Now I'm really confused. Just read the aventa lx manual and in step 2 of hooking up it tells you to rotate the hold bolt out of stowed position and place tow bar legs on the ground. So, should the ball joint be able to hold them horizontally or should they fall to ground as manual says?????
Mine also just fell to the ground. Blue Ox says the joint should be tight enough to hold the weight of the tow bar when horitontal to the ground. Call them or post a question on their website and they will ship you new washers and spacers

RE: Blue Ox Aventa LX Ball Joint wear

Before I called Blue Ox I tried leaving a message on their website, I got an error message so I figured it didn't work. Anyway another person apparently got that message and called me back. The guy on the phone was much more helpful than the person the other day, this is what he told me.
The ball joint should be tight enough to hold the weight of the bar when extended horizontally. Mine is definitely too loose and this is normal with wear so he mailed me instructions and parts to replace a washer and wedges. He said it's a relatively easy job for someone with basic skills
I thought this was pretty good service, hope it helps

RE: Ford Edge 2011

I just replaced my edge with a Flex. I towed the edge for years and never had a problem with it, never had a dead battery. I did not have a charge wire between the MH and toad. Make sure the key is turned all the way OFF.
I will say though that the transmission in that was slipping pretty bad when I got rid of it, I suspect from towing.

Blue Ox Aventa LX Ball Joint wear

My Aventa LX is about 3 years old with 30,000 to 40,000 kms. The tow bar works flawlessly but the ball joint is not tight like when it was new, its to the point now that it won't hold the tow bar up.
I called Blue Ox and they recommended I send the entire hitch assembly to them in Nebraska and they will rebuild it for $95 plus shipping, its 18 lbs so shipping to/from Ontario will be costly. Option 2 was to buy a new assembly at $275, they suggest from a dealer.
Anyone run into this with the Aventa LX?

RE: 2006 E450 clicking sound at low speed

I would say it probably clicks once per wheel rotation. I've had it out twice to check the wheel liners and couldn't reproduce the problem. It normally happens more often after longer drives and I haven't been on a long drive lately - have not been camping :-(

RE: Driver's seat

I replaced my manual seat base with a power seat base. I got the new power set base off eBay, total effort to install was about 2 hours after mounting the buttons etc. It was a pretty easy job with a factory like outcome
