RE: Driving in Big Cities

We don't travel in big cities often, however when we do, I don't find it all that difficult. Parking is another issue.
First of all, as said by bbarbee, I move out of the first lane, the 'merge lane' as it is referred to by some or the 'slow lane' as it is sometimes referred to by others. If there are three lanes--I am found right in the middle. Then I don't have to worry about all those drivers that don't know how to merge to begin with, AND all those drivers that suddenly remember this is their exit approaching and need to get into the exit lane, so thus are now 'merging' from the left also!
I have my backup camera on all the time in high traffic situations and, I am aware of where the vehicles around me are.
Also, while we all must exercise all caution, defensive driving and courteous driving (I always feel I represent all RV'ers when I'm out there), I know that I am MUCH BIGGER then most of those vehicles around and find that when given sufficient notice (blinkers, slight turn of the wheel) they don't challenge an RV like they do other vehicles their own size. People are for the most part, very courteous and probably sympathetic to some extent to motorhomes.
Simply drive carefully, but confidently.

RE: Vacuum for RV

x3 on the shop vac. Works awesome and very small and easy to store. Use the hose on the output for a handy blower!

RE: Jeep Wrangler Limited 2011

Jeep is the consumate tow vehicle! They were born to do it! My husband and I together can hook/unhook our Jeep in a matter of less then 10 mins. Tows smooth as can be. We have the Sterling All-Terrain tow hook up and it is wonderful.

RE: mileage on a pre-owned Tiffin Allegro Bay-gas

My opinion is that 8800 miles/year is not an awful lot. I would much rather be buying a used motorhome that has been used, then one that has sat for extended periods without being moved or used.
Either way, you will want to do a very careful exam of everything you can see. Start every appliance or have the dealership run every one; heat, air, generator, stove, etc.
You take nothing for granted with a used motorhome. It's like you're from Missouri...."Show me"!!

RE: Thinking about a Jeep

I love our two door Wrangler! It is so much fun to drive around in, easy to park anywhere and of course off-roading is no problem. We have just a two door. When we test drove both the two and the four door, we opted for the two door because it was so much fun to drive. Love being able to take off the hard top and use the soft top, which we frequently fold down in the summer. Our 80+ lb. chocolate lab Buddy, has a great time riding in back, though we have to give him a 'boost' to get up inside.
My husband uses our Jeep as his daily driver. The mileage is not great, but he only commutes 6 miles to each way to work.
We rented a new 2012 Wrangler for two weeks while on vacation to Hawaii in March. The new 2012 Jeep Wrangler handles awesome and now DH is considering trading to it.
BTW, it is a breeze to tow. We pull behind our 32' Class C, and can barely tell it's there. Literally less than 5 mins to hook/unhook too!!

RE: Ipad Navigation in the UP of Michigan - coverage areas?

I have to agree with Travelnutz. We live in Big Rapids, right smack in the middle of the lower pennisula and have Verizon service (having transferred from Alltel also). We travel several times a year to the U.P. and have yet to be in an area without cell phone coverage including the Porcupine Mtns, Munising, and all along US 2 along the lower shoreline.
We also travel with a Garmin, and that was always acurate on where we were and what was around us.

RE: St Ignace or Mackinaw City area Michigan

Have stayed on both sides and while both sides have their unique qualities, for that amount of time I would too recommend Mackinaw Mill Campground. You will still want to spend the fees for the bridge crossing one or two days for exploring that part of the UP. St. Ignace has fireworks every Saturday night over the harbor. You can day trip up to Sault Ste Marie to the Soo Locks also.

Had a co-worker leave work afternoon. Got a couple miles from the office when a turkey flew right up into his windshield. It went right through the passenger side and inbedded all the way at the back window of his Buick Lesabre! He came back into the parking lot at work and we couldn't believe our eyes!!!
Sure glad you and your wife were not hurt to speak of!!

Wow!!! That is really something... Good for him!! He certainly has it to spend and enjoy, and he's doing just that.
I kinda expected some more spectacular vehicles down there then what I saw....
All the never started motorcycles seems like more of a shame then anything else to me!

RE: Dog , hair wore off ?

Have you ever heard of Gentle Leader?
If you are just using the harness because your dog is pulling alot, you should really investigate this collar.
We have a now 4 year old Chocolate Lab weighing appox 85lbs. Buddy used pull like a freight train. I had a little old lady (literally) tell me about the Gentle Leader in Pet Smart one day and how her large dog immediately stopped 'pulling' the first time she tried it. So, I bought it and...same thing!! Buddy immediately stopped pulling and just walked nicely on the leash.
The Gentle Leader slips on easily and when used, transfers the pulling energy to the dogs muzzle, which they don't like. So, they stop pulling pretty much immediately.
We now have four of them. I keep one attached to each leash we own. I keep one in each vehicle, one in the motorhome, and one at our back door.
Can't recommend it enough!!!

RE: Shaking Front End

If nothing else comes out of a qualified inspection, try Roadforce Balancing the tires to the wheels before 'throwing parts' at it. Roadforce balancing balances each individual wheel to it's tire. I have heard of it resolving vibration issues where nothing else is found to be at fault.D
Good luck, and please do post what cures your issue when found!

RE: CW discount

CW may not be the cheapest, but by golly they have always have had what I needed, when I needed it, and when I am at their store in Grand Rapids, MI, their personnel was always eager to help with a question or with a helpful suggestion.
As an added bonus, they let my dog come in and always have a treat for him.
I'm willing to pay the mark-up they need to cover their overhead so they will continue to be there when I need them. Besides that, I hate 'big box' stores. They are the reason the family owned grocery store I worked at for 20+ years is out of business.
