RE: Wheel Balancing

What is your personal experience with Dynabeads? To answer your specific question.....I have NONE! (I reply to posts if I have an answer to the question asked)! The OP question was VERY specific, (it did not ask how to balance tires or ask for suggestions or options about other balancing techniques).

RE: Wheel Balancing

Sorry Mel, I've been using the RV specific Dynabeads for too long to be paranoid about them. I also use my coach and wear out my tires long before they age out so IF the beads would have caused any damage, I certainly would have known about it. It is not like my coach sits for months on end where any kind of wheel balance method is doing nothing. I have used the Dynabeads on motorcycle and automobile tires and all with great service. No need for sorry, I too believe that the beads cause NO damage. I am sure either method,(Centramatics OR beads), work equally well for for all coaches. (Not together however). I told of my experience with Centramatics in answer to the OP. I stated that I used them along with an original spin balance, to keep my tires balanced. (The OP did not ask HOW he should balance his)! Since the OP asked about Centramatics, (NOT BEADS), I felt qualified to answer the question because I have used them successfully for over 100k miles. (Only 2k, so far, on the newest set of six tires). Your reply gave a correct answer/opinion to an unasked question. What is your experiance with, (not opinion of), of the Centramatic wheel balancers and how did they work for you? Mel '96 Safari

RE: Wheel Balancing

"You need to read your tire warranty. On my Goodyears it says that IF the beads or any other tire balancing item CAUSES the DAMAGE, the warranty is void. Since the Goodyear dealer installed Dynabeads in my tires when they were mounted, and put it on the invoice, I doubt if they will void their own warranty". Why would ANYONE believe that they would NOT use that clause to deny a tire warranty claim. (Beads give them an easy OUT)! They can PROVE the use of beads, could you prove the beads did NOT cause damage? Mel

RE: Wheel Balancing

Never put or leave weights on when you have centramatics on. I have had CENTRAMATICS on my 9R22.5 front and rear (two sets of Goodyears and this set of Michelin tires), for ten years, (100k miles) Mant so called experts "no not what they do" and will tell you all different stories, depending how they feel that day, (not necessarily based on ANY FACTS). I have been told many dos and don'ts over the years, many incorrect! (I hate when that happens). Here is my experience, (and what I DO): Have the tires spin balanced AND use Centramatics. The Centramatics will compensate for any wear unbalance that could occur over the life of the tires, and keep them balanced in the event of mud gobs etc on the tires/wheels. Do not use beads and NEVER with Centramatics (together they work against each other. Also, if you read your tire warranty you will find that ANY solid, (beads), used it the tire will void that warranty, (only air and nitrogen are allowed in the tires). RE: Beware in Rockport TX

I have a 16 year old FF vent fan, still going strong. The fan service story brought to mind the time my toad alternator quit near New Orleans. I hooked up, towed it to a Pep Boys, and got an "installed" price for an alternator on the '96 Saturn I had brought to them. I agreed and asked them to put a new one on and left for the hour that they said it would take. When I came back to pick up the car and pay the bill, the charge was more than the quote. When I questioned the up-charge I was there was a $30 fee for "testing" my old one! I was forced to pay for the "testing" even though I had told them it was BAD, and I had specified EXACTLY what work I wanted done. Mel, '96 Safari Sahara,

RE: battery ooze

When I had an acid overflow when charging problem, it turned out it was because I was filling them when the charge was down. I now check ant fill only when they are fully charged and no more overflow. Mel

RE: What is this?

A modulator takes the Red & White (Audio L&R) and Yellow (Video) RCA type output from a device like a VHS VCR and converts it to an RF signal, usually TV channel 3 or 4. You can then run coax (RG59 or RG6) to a TV set at a remote location. (another room, rear RV, or outside). Mel

RE: alternator wiring

I have a '96 Safari with the Delco 21SI, 100 amp alternator. The internal regulator has 2 spade connectors protruding through the alternator housing. (I my case they are at the very top, yours might be on either side of alternator). On my rig, ONLY ONE terminal has a wire connected to it via a plastic push on connector. (Although the connector has spaces for TWO wires, ONE space HAS NO WIRE). My problem began when the spade connector onto which the single wire was plugged CORRODED OFF of the regulator. I found a shop that removed the alternator, split the cases, put in a new internal voltage regulator and reinstalled the alternator. It would NOT charge!. The tech INSISTED that it COULD NOT not have worked with only the one wire connected........(It had worked that way for 40,00 miles)! He said that the only way to fix it was to REWIRE the coach's charging system and the solid state battery isolator... The bill to this point was already $250. The solution was found when I removed alternator to try another regulator and I found that the first tech had BROKEN OFF an internal brush wire. There is ONE (12 or 14ga) wire from the regulator to the center pin of the isolator. (That may be what is known as the "sense wire")? It should not be a problem to determining were the heaver battery and ground wires/cables connect. Good luck, P.S. Don't let the tech grind off the serpentine belt tensioner PIN, just because he has a problem getting the belt back on. (A future $160 part) Mel '96 Sahara 3530, 250hp CAT
