RE: Recalculating

I guess I'm the exception, I just ignore the recalculating stuff when I pull off for gas or whatever. When I'm ready to get back on the freeway, the GPS tells me how to do it.

RE: Low watt hour laptops?

I have this netbook: Acer-AO722-0473. I replaced the 320G mechanical HD with a 120G SSD to gain performance and battery life. I can go 8-10 hours on battery depending on what I'm doing. This netbook has an 11.6 inch screen, runs 64-bit Win 7 and has 4G of RAM. Very capable netbook.

RE: Kindlle Fire

It's anybody's guess when it will actually ship but the rumors say it will be a 9 or 10 inch tablet. I personally prefer the 7 inch form factor so it doesn't interest me. I recently replaced my Kindle Fire with a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 which I like better than the Fire.

RE: Livemail or Hotmail?

Neither. Use Gmail, it's web based or pop/imap based and far more reliable that those.... How is it more reliable?

RE: Livemail or Hotmail?

I have a Hotmail account that I can access thru the web via the Hotmail website on any computer with a browser. If I am working at a Windows computer that has Windows Live Mail installed, I can access my Hotmail account via the Windows Live Mail client. I also have apps on several Android devices (phone and tablet) that allow me to access my Hotmail account from those devices. I have not had to change my email address since 1999.

RE: Did you ever do something truely stupid to your computer?

The stupidest thing I ever did to my computer was back in about 1999. I had a computer that dual booted Windows NT and OS/2. I wanted to delete, reformat and re-install the Windows NT partition but accidentally wiped out my OS/2 partition instead. Took me awhile to recover from that. Now I pay attention when the OS pops up a message box that says "Are you sure you want to do that? Y/N"

RE: Draw Something

I wouldn't say I'm addicted but I do play it. I installed it on my Kindle Fire. Much nicer on the bigger screen then on the smaller screen of my phone.

RE: desk top computer

That flashing light you mentioned may actually be blinking a code. You might want to try calling HP and asking their tech support what it means. If I had to guess, I'd say you will need to replace the power supply.

RE: Leap Year Can Jump Up And Bite You

Something I, as a salaried employee, just became aware of is that in a leap year containing Feb 29th, I have to work an extra day in the year but don't receive an extra day's pay. Therefore, I can look at it 2 ways, 1) I work for free that one day or 2) I work for slightly less per hour the whole year. Those that get paid by the hour actually receive an extra day's pay. No - as a salaried (Exempt) employee you are paid a monthly salary not an hourly wage - no matter if the month is 28 days, 29 days, 30 days, or 31 days. .... Exactly my point, I get paid the same whether a year has 365 days or 366 days, therefore in a leap year I either work 1 day for free or essentially earn less per hour worked.

RE: Mac or PC

What I always find fascinating about the MAC/PC (actually MAC/Windows) debate is that it's always pointed out that you can run Windows on a MAC using Bootcamp or software like Parallels. That's because Windows is needed in order to use certain software that's not available for the MAC or to play games or whatever. Seems to me that it makes more sense to just run Windows in the first place. I had a MAC a few years back running OS X Snow Leopard. I really wasn't wowed by it but it was OK. I installed Win 7 when it first was released using Parallels and found I spent most of the time using Win 7 and used the OS X side less and less. I gave the MAC to my daughter who was in college and after a couple of months of using the MAC she begged me for a Windows machine. I tried to sell the 1 yr old MAC but could only get offers of 20% of what I paid for it. After months of trying to sell it, I finally traded it for a Toshiba laptop.

RE: Mac Print to Win 7 Printer Problems

I can't answer why the Mac can't print to your printer connected to a Win 7 computer but I can give you an alternative method of printing. Look into Google Cloud print. You would setup your Win 7 computer/printer to be able to receive print jobs from the google server. When you want to print a doc or picture or whatever from the Mac you would email that doc to an email address. The google server would then send the print job to the Win 7 computer which would then print the doc. It's round-a-bout but it should work. With this setup, you can also print things from your smartphone or any device that can send email.

RE: Older programs on Windows 7

You might have difficulty finding XP drivers for your laptop. Check the mfr's website to see if they have driver for your chipset, video, sound, network, wifi, etc... Why would the drivers be any different than those running on an XP Pro my desktop? I know that in changing from XP up to W7 there are many new drivers need for the W7 environment, but I wasn't aware that that was downward too. Tim Drivers are hardware specific and laptops require more drivers than desktop machines for things like the touchpad and wifi, for instance. Mfrs need to provide drivers for their hardware to work with a particular version of Windows. If your laptop was developed as a Win 7 laptop, then it may be that the mfr only has those drivers and none are available for XP,

RE: New RV Checklist Android App

Works great, love the fact that I can create the lists via a .csv file and import. Creating a new list and adding the list items one at a time via the app is cumbersome but fine to add/delete one or 2 list items. One small request. If I attempt to import a .csv file that has the same name as an existing list, it refuses to import since there can't be lists with duplicate names. Any chance you could fix it so I can specify a new name on the import rather than having to cancel the import and then go and rename or delete the file I don't want?

RE: New RV Checklist Android App

Do you know if this would work on a Kindle Fire? I know the Fire uses "Android Apps" from what I've seen from the "app store" on the Kindle. Thanks! Mitch Just tried it on my KF and it works fine. You'll need to get the apk and use it to "sideload" the app on the KF unless the author also gets it added to the Amazon market.

RE: "Free" moble Hotspot App for Android

Well, I tried the app again tonight and keep getting the VZW page to activate the $20/month hotspot service. Guess the beta version of this app doesn't work reliably on my Droid X. I'll just go back to PDAnet (already paid for) running on my phone and tethered to my netbook. If I need to share that connection I'll just use Connectify on my netbook as I have been doing.

RE: Older programs on Windows 7

... Last weekend, I bought a new HD for my laptop, then went on craigslist and bought an original, unopened, MS XP Pro disc for $25. This weekend, I'll swap the HDs and load XP Pro. That should fix it. Lemmie know what you & Peg are up to. Tim You might have difficulty finding XP drivers for your laptop.
