RE: Anyone ever made they're own Fuel Tank ??

One thing that kills me about asking a question on this forum is all the responses you get that having nothing to do with the original question. Example, I asked about making a tank, & i get responses about vendors, what to look for in a junk-yard, a portable fuel station/jug.
Shouldn't be hard, just have to figure out where you want it and how much room you have.
Will need a low suction, fill and vent. After welding, fill with water, look for leaks, maybe add a few pounds (5 psi should be good) of air pressure too.
But, quoting your above, I have seen numerous plastic tanks (under mount) on craigslist, that would just seem easier.

RE: aux fuel tank question

The extra fuel tank when full should be around 400 - 500 pounds, that is a drawback to most F-250 and 2500 series truck owners, yet not a problem with the dually trucks.
How do you figure? My 2500 can hold 2800ish lbs on top of its own weight.
I run a 48 gallon bed tank, gravity fill through a 1/4" hose, about the time my reg tank gets close to empty I open the fill valve, it fills about the fast enough that with steady towing it will fill the main tank about the same time the aux take empties.
Do it, you'll love the range you will have and not having to worry about where and when to stop.

RE: How much weight added with just "stuff"

I have been reading and enjoying this forum for a while. It seems like every week a can I pull this with my truck thread pops up. Discussions about how much the trailer weighs and the truck weighs then the pissing match begins. The thing I never see hardly ever mentioned is how much we add after that. So I will start and folks can add to what I am forgetting.
20 gallons of fuel 140#
Clothes and riding gear 300#
Cookware and kitchen stuff 150#
Propane and tank + BBQ grill 200#
Tools, Jacks, Blocks 300#
2 quads and 2 bikes 1700#
Food and drink and Ice 200#
Lawn chairs and tables 150#
Towels and toiletries cleaning supplies 50#
CD, DVD, Game console, elec stuff 50#
So far thats 3240 freakin pounds I add to the trailer.
add 4 people to the truck avg 150 each = 600#
30 gallons fuel 210# ( my new truck has 130 Gallon cap.)
Thats 4050 pounds of added weight to all the numbers folks throw out.
-I don't see clothes and riding gear adding up to 300lbs, figure my 3 family members is 150 for a 4 day trips.
-propane and grill, 200lbs? 5 gallon tank50lbs full, my weber Q, 20 lbs. So 70 at most.
- 3 quads and a bike, mine are sports quads, ave 400 lbs and 250 lb bike, 1450 lbs.
-food and drink 200lbs, really. I think more like drink and ice, 200lbs, food 100lbs.
Honestly, I think you are over thinking it. Weight yourself on the way out and the way back some time, or add a scale to the steps on your way in while loading the trailer.
Either way, have fun camping.

RE: GPS

Our group uses Garmin Rino units. We like the additional feature of the GMRS two way radio built in. I am using a ram mount to mount it to different things so I can use in on multiple toys.
I use the Rino 120 also. Great unit and on the cheaper side. Like the handheld as mnentione above, nice that it lets you know where your friends are also.
Additionally, I use a 12volt power supply too, the AA batteries tend to shake and shut the unit off while riding.

RE: New to the Forum...Have a few questions

David, nothing wrong with Wix filters.
All the info is or should be on the air filter cover, for filters and oil recommendations. As for plugs, ya, I looked at doing mine once, but after looking at their locations, I ignored them. 6 years, almost a 1000 hours and it still runs good.
I usually blow off all the carb/governor linkage and springs, with carb cleaner and then air. Dirt will get on the springs and cause the governor to not work properly, and get over/under frequency problems, at least in my experience.
Make sure you run the genny with the cover on too, its designed that way for cooling air flow.
Good luck,
Duane

RE: Gordons Well dunes trip report 12-10-11

Has anybody else had anything like this happen?
Nope!
Sounds like your bad grease/or repack job, assuming the bearing looked good when you repacked.

RE: Tires and Leaf Spring

Blew a tire on the way home from our Thanksgiving trip. It made the trailer shift so suddenly it bent one of the leaf springs. Replaced all 4 tires with Michelin XPS Rib on Monday. Now to replace the leaf spring. Wondering if we should do 1, 2, or all 4. Trailer is a 2009 Raptor 300mp. Any suggestions?
BTW, don't ever let some grease monkey jack up your trailer by putting a floor jack under your axle - it will bend the axle. It might be possible to correct the bend to the right camber but personally I wouldn't trust a re bent axle.
they are already bent.

RE: Tires and Leaf Spring

I broke one on a long haul from socal to texas, somewhere about half way. Made it the rest of the way since it was somewhat suspending weight. They are cheap, think I paid 40 bucks a springpack. Also, look at upping the springs. They make different size spring packs, with same eye to eye measurement.
