RE: EZ pass questions

I have EZPass in PA for my 2 cars but haven't used it for the Motorhome yet. The EZPass rep (by phone) said I need a commercial account because the MH is over 15K lbs. Also, I found this on the PA EZPass website FAQ: "If you have an RV, with a gross vehicle weight over 15,000 pounds, you will need to open a commercial account. If you have an RV that has a gross vehicle weight of 15,000 pounds or less, you may add it to your personal E-ZPass account. Please be prepared with your weight, tires and axels when calling to add an RV to your account. You may require a separate transponder programmed for the specific weight class of the RV." Has anyone used a personal EZPass PA account on an RV over 15K lbs? I've been thinking of trying it by registering my MH license plate as an auto and moving my toad transponder into the MH. I have an 03 Tradition and have had the same EZPass transponder for various motorhomes for over 10 years. No one has ever stopped me or told me that I would need a "commercial" EZPass. As a matter of fact, due to the deposits and other fees and garbage they want, all of my company vehicles as using regular EZPass transponders. My Tradition is probably somewhere in the mid 30,000 pound range and I have started pulling a 36' trailer with it that probably is an additional 12,000 or 13,000 pounds. Have rolled through quite a few times on the PA Turnpike this year and have received all green lights. As a matter of fact, the Freightliner truck converted to a toter home with attached 44' stacker trailer has a regular EZPass in it also, and not a word about that setup either. The fees for the commercial EZPass transponders is very prohibitive cost wise.

RE: EZ pass questions

We have 15 EZ-pass transponders for our personal cars and business cars and all are through the PA EZPass system. They are all on the same account and billing is done via a credit card and it automatically reloads the account when it reaches it's lowest threshold. Regarding our motorhome, we have one in the windshield and when we have a toad, only one EZPass is required and it must be in the motorhome. If you have a second EZPass and it is not in the protective bag, you will be charged TWICE, it has happened to us a few times because we forgot. Each time, I filled out the "claim" paperwork and they credited our account for "extra" vehicle that went through when the toad was attached to the motorhome. Another way to "save" money on EZPass tolls is look for the widest lane at the booths. As you approach the booth, you will see what look like 12" wide steel plates, those are the scales which determine which class you will be charged. I always attempt to get one side steer tire and at least the outside dual on the same side to mill the "scale" as they dont go all the way to the curb. By having tires miss the scale, you don't weigh nearly as much! Just watch your mirrors!!

RE: 2008 Winnebago Destination 39W

I had looked at the Destinations when they first came out. For all the great things that Winnebago builds, the Destination was not one of them. The dealers could not give them away. I would take that money your are planning on spending on that and look at a Journey or Meridian and you will get far more coach for your money and have alot more resale value at the back end. The basement air units are pretty good as I would not worry about having one. What did you take exception to? Please give specifics This is a 2008, so perhaps they sharpened up things since they first came out. Any info you have I can certainly use. For the price that Winnebago wanted for those Destinations, there were way over priced for what you got. They were orphans before they ever left the plant. I was not a fan of the UFO chassis' and the brakes on those units were almost non-existant compared to the Freightliner chassis and brakes. The interior and layouts were terrible. The materials used from the furniture to the carpeting were of some of the cheapest quality Winnebago ever used. Those bent warped plywood cabinetry is just ugly. Door quality was poor and windows were bad also. IMO, the quality of these was worse than some of the Winnebago entry level gas coaches they build. The list can go on and on as they were not anyting that Winnebago should be proud of. Like I said earlier, if you are looking at spending money on a Destination, you really need to take a much closer look at moving up to a Journey for the same money and getting alot more coach.

RE: Unrealistic Seller Expectations--Buying and Selling an RV

You might be forgetting one thing - dying. My mother saved her whole life for a trip to Hawaii (this was back in the 60's)and a vacation home, only to die at 53. One of the last things she said to me was, "I had all the money I could want, and I never did anything". Well, I'm not waiting for anything. I have our coach, house, cars, a few motorcycles. We've done the boat thing and go on unusual vacations as often as possible. We work hard and both of our FICO's are over 800. If I lose it all tomorrow,I'll start over. Wouldn't be the first time! Life is for living, not waiting. And the things we regret most in life are not the things we've done, but the things we didn't do. Man, if I didn't know better, I thought I might have written this myself except for the boat and motorcycles, replace that with race cars. Also remember the key words-----my personal motto!!! "Don't borrow a little money and lie awake at night worrying about how you are going to repay it, borrow a huge pile of money and let your loan officer worry about how you are going to repay it"

RE: Anyone using Magnashade ?

Just ordered my set this morning. That four week wait time for delivery could be a killer though in this heat. They are backed up quite a bit according to Roger. After seeing what happened to a friends new Eagle with the snaps, he went to pull them off and the snap pulled out of the fiberglass causing a $1000 fiberglass/paint repair job, and a new set of MagneShades for his Eagle, I was convinced that even though they are more money, it was the right way to go for me. Sometimes ya just have to bite the bullett and do it right the first time!

RE: Piece of my tire gone (pics)

Looking at your pictures of that tire, what would concern me is that there is a sizable piece of the tread that is missing from the tire, probably ran over something in the road which cut/tore it out. What concerns me is that the outer tread is missing down to the next layer which covers the belts of the tire. With that also alarming is the crack in the rubber that goes from the "liberty" in the quarter along the water channel towards the right side of the tire. That is a place that with the expansion of the tire due to heat build up and flex of running down the road, would provide the beginning of a tread separation and that tire being a "gater" on the road. Time for it to be replaced! Given choices, I would (a) look around at a tire dealer and see if I could find a similar date code used tire to replace it or (b) replace all four rear tires. I just purchased four Goodyears from CampingWorld in size 295/70/22.5 for under $500/tire with a President's club membership.
