RE: BIRDS!!!!!

We purchased a new camper. They don't bother this pin box for some reason.:B
If it's a Lippert frame, maybe the birds saw the data plate and were scared off.:B

RE: F250 vs F350

I pull a 36 foot 5er with my 2001 F250 7.3 supercab.Put a set of rancho helper springs on and cured the squat.Pulls great stops great.Ford does offer a Super Duty 450 that will cure all the problems. If your going to move up, make a big move.

RE: Ford's answers to the NHTSA 6.7 Investigation

Looooove my 7.3. Never going to sell this truck. :B
I think it's cause y'all can't afford a new truck, or you'd probably be rolling in one. :B
Don't know about TSeck, but mine has only 66K miles on it, and it's main job is to pull the 5er, with an occasional trip to Lowes to get garden soil or something similar.I don't need anything to drive that cost more than my first house.I have no need to show that mine is bigger, better, newer, faster, etc, etc.I am comfortable with my life.:)

RE: Where to find a replacement rear bumper for fifth wheel

I bent my 5er bumper by backing into a small tree.Got some 4x4 steel tubing and made my own replacement.Painted it black with a couple cans of spray paint from lowes. No rust yet, been two years. You can't put the sewer hose in the replacement bumper, because the wall thickness is greater.(1/8 inch).

RE: Superglide Capture Plate installation

Got the same plate on mine.It will work as is, but it might fall off when you unhook.I welded jack bolts on both sides on top of the blocks that hold the shims, they push on the side of the hitch above the footplate. No more problem.

RE: Beware If You Have Any Size Used Truck to Sell or Buy

"We have vehicles purchased used that we have come to know and would not sell them for what we gave five years ago. Unless going to new trading one used vehicle for even a newer vehicle can be risky behavior I have learned. "
This is true.My truck has 65,xxx miles on it,I think I am the third owner. It was sold new at a local dealer.Tires, oil changes, wiper blades, and polishing the plastic headlight covers is all I have had to do to it.I did add the hitch and Rancho springs, but that was my choice.I hope it gives many years of service,to me or anyone I sell it to.

RE: Beware If You Have Any Size Used Truck to Sell or Buy

Got curious reading this thread and looked my truck up on KBB.$16,009.00 is the good value for private sale. That's what I gave for it two years ago.
Are you willing to sell it for that today?
Not right now,I need it to pull my 5er.DW is wanting to look at class B in future, maybe then.

RE: Buying a hitch questions

Get a Super Glide. No problems,no worries.Yes,it does weigh more than some others, but you will never "forget to get out and slide it back". What difference does another 150 pounds make anyway?
Also you will not get wet if it's raining and you need to slide it back.

RE: Cost to rebuild?

I got lucky and found a 2001 F250 7.3 supercab,2wd, automatic.I have 60,000 miles on it as of yesterday.Had it for two years and have only had to put tires, wiper blades, one new battery, and change the oil and filter.I did put a set of 1500 lb Rancho helper springs on it to stop the small squat when hooked to the fiver. The bed settles about two inches now. It has the original General tire spare, with the casting nubbies on it.Don't think it was ever used on the truck.
It was bought new from a Ford dealer ten miles from where I live by the previous (original)owner.
This was a $ 16,000.00 purchase, which I feel was fair, after looking at the prices and researching the other Ford offerings.
This would be the best route to take, if possible. These trucks are out there,it just takes looking.
I once worked for a company that built recovery vehicles.75% of the cab+chassis used were Fords,Most of them diesels.F Super Duty trucks were the one most wanted, and the hardest to find. These were cab+chassis with the straight front axle. Most customers settled for a f350 cab+chassis, or a f350 dually with the bed removed.
So if you see a mid 80s to mid 90s Holmes or AATAC recovery vehicle, it might be one I helped build.

RE: Looking for a way to pull my trailer over rocky roads

Get some big steel skis made that will fasten to the existing wheels and tires, just drive up on them, bolt, chain or however they fasten to your setup, and away you go.

RE: Use UPS as inverter to power front TV?

Those UPSs are not built for continuous use, and it will overheat fairly quickly- it really isn't a terribly good source of power. If you think about it, those cost around $40 on sale, the replacement battery is $30. How much do you think they spent on the inverter portion?
That is true.Where I work, the Uninterruptable Power Supplies (UPS)units are thrown away (recycled) when the battery will no longer hold a charge. There is a circuit in them for that,it will make a beep that is shorter than a power failure beep. They are made to allow the SAFE shutdown of a pc when there is a power failure. This prevents the loss of whatever the engineer was working on at the time of the power failure. They do have a safety circuit to prevent overloading,it will not allow the UPS to power anything beyond what ever it is rated for, except for a VERY short time.Less than a minute, depending on load. They are good for what they are meant to do, but no extra.
A small inverter would be better, and a lot less of a PITA.
